If I joined the band and changed my name to Eric, would you consider capitalising the 'e' in FeSTR?

Only the one pair of camo shorts in a metal promo shot?
Posers.
If it helps I'm wearing camo shorts to work today and have done for about 4 months solid now.

Post the photo and let the forum decide whether it's comedy
It wasn't quite this photo, but taken at the same time... from memory it looked kinda like this but taken from a higher angle, I recall, and probably without a filter. (I found it on our myspace page which apparently still exists hahaha)

100% accurate.

All band photos are comedy, this one was just a standard metal glower at the camera I think - not bad in any way, just the same generic poses we all use to lump a group of people together. made me laugh more cos of reading this thread than anything else.
Fair play - sorry for misinterpreting your post. My memory of the hilarious band photos were five years earlier, circa 2003-04 (i.e. emo-era). It was all 'moody against a wall in the ghetto-ist part of town'. Attempting to look hard/sad/serious with floppy fringes, girls jeans and studded belts. LOL.
Incidentally when MMW did our first proper tour with Cry For Silence and Aconite Thrill in 2005, one of the roadies for CFS was Laurent Barnard AKA 'Lags'. He he'd just formed Gallows, but they were still basically a little local band. One year later they were absolutely massive and on the covers of everything from Kerrang to GQ! Three years later and we were in the up-and-coming section of total guitar

How was that a dig? The page might actually have been called up and coming, and all band photos from 10+ years ago are comedy.
'comedy photo'.
As far as I recall it was just a normal (if not somewhat generic) band photo, rather than being anything particularly cringe-worthy.
I wasn't meaning to have a go btw - just seemed an unnecessary qualifying phrase. But then again I'm a 35-trapped-in-a-25-year-old's body, so 2008 feels neither hilariously dated or particularly far away to me!

MMW was on an "up and coming bands" type page along with a comedy photo.
It's reassuring to see that ten years later people can't mention MMW on this forum without including a dig in there somewhere.
I owned and binned that copy of Total Guitar many years ago, but thanks for the offer anyway.

New GoST LP is the heaviest one so far, if you dig that dark synthwave stuff.
nice one - I might check this out later on, although some of their stuff was a bit too distorted for my liking. Carpenter Brut and Perturbator absolutely nailed that style of darksynth imho, but the odd Gost/Megadrive song is up my alley as well.

And all whilst recording the most consecutive appearances in the English Premier League. Impressive.
(As both a Spurs and Terminator fan - this similarity has always amused me).

You're excused for the Dross gaff. It turned out to be the program we used to record (or my terrible laptop) glitching. It somehow manages to stay perfectly in time , but you can hear a little click where the glitch happens, deleting 4 bars, as it shifts back in to the riff. There was another glitch which shifted Teabags' vocals forward (or backwards, I can't remember which) and again it ended up being perfectly in time, just 4 bars ahead/behind.
Man, there's some horrible sounds being made in the 2nd part of that song. It's excellent.
A related story that is interesting (to me at least) is of Brad Fiedel was composing the Terminator theme... He wrote the melody by improvising over a percussion loop he'd recorded, but hadn't realised that he had stopped the end of the sequence a bit early. As a result, the bars are an awkward 13/16 time signature. But it's one of the best themes ever, so happy accidents and all that.

St Anger is 14 years worth of shite.
What bothers me slightly is that St Anger and And Justice For All are closer together in age than St Anger and now.

"Hit that pussy raw like fuck the outcome. None of us would be here without cum."
Slight loss of points for rhyming 'outcome' with 'out come'
On that note we need to flag 'Generals gather in their masses, just like black masses' from Sabbath's War Pigs. I wrote a letter to Ozzy asking him to change it to either:
Generals gather in their masses, just like witches at spell classes.
or
Generals gather in their masses, just like poo on hairy asses.
or
Generals gather in their masses, just like family at Chrismasses.
The last one technically rhymes masses with masses too, but at least it's not exactly the same word. Ozzy never got back to me.

I have a certain fondness for the Darkness. I mean I never listened to anything post Permission To Land but I did quite enjoy them.
"I want a one-way ticket to Hell and back,
A one-way ticket to Hell and back"
I presume that one wasn't supposed to make sense, right?
"I never listened to anything post Permission To Land"
* quotes song released after Permission to Land *
But yeah, that lyric - like most of them - was definitely a pisstake. -

I thought this was another hilarious made up Dan G story...so I listened to the song. Jesus fuck.
I wish I could come up with lyrics that hilarious.
I know the Darkness are a bit divisive to say the least, but they had some pretty funny stuff. Obvious one being 'growing on me', which is obviously about genital warts but portrayed as a love song. Fantastic.

English Country Garden by the Darkness had a line that I always found amusing:
'It was a cigarette break and I was desperate
When I saw her pushing that wheelbarrow
She said have you got a match? and I said yes!
My cock and Farmer Giles prizewinning marrow'- 1

He looks like he smells. Not as much as Post Malone looks like he smells, mind.
On the subject of bad lyrics, my favourite is 'Horse With No Name' by America. It's even better than Des'ree's 'Life', which features the woefully inept 'I don't want to see a ghost, It's the sight that I fear most, I'd rather have a piece of toast'. Every line of HWNN deserves its own analysis:
HORSE WITH NO NAMEOn the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of soundI've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no painAfter two days in the desert sun
My skin began to turn red
After three days in the desert fun
I was looking at a river bed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think it was deadYou see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no painAfter nine days I let the horse run free
'Cause the desert had turned to sea
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
there was sand and hills and rings
The ocean is a desert with it's life underground
And a perfect disguise above
Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no loveYou see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain -

"Tonight there's gonna be a jailbreak,
Somewhere in this town"
I'd say at the jail most likely.
Ah - I can help you out here, I think. I'm pretty sure Jailbreak is a quasi-concept album where the town in question is a dystopian future society where there are either lots of jails, or the whole town is a jail.
So it sort of makes sense with that in mind.
-
Another one that springs to mind is Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the wall in which the kids sing 'We don't need no education'.
Unaware that the double negative means that they are confirming (in more ways than one) that they do in fact need education.

So this morning I'm listening to Missy Elliot (I wasn't), and it got me thinking about that one song of hers that is good (it isn't) in which the lyrics go:
'Is it worth it? Let me work it
I put my thing down, flip it and reverse it
Ti esrever dna ti pilf, nwod gniht ym tup
Ti esrever dna ti pilf, nwod gniht ym tup'But surely if she flips it AND reverses it it ends up normal, so should either go:
'Is it worth it? Let me work it
I put my thing down, flip it and reverse it
Put my thing down, flip it and reverse it
Put my thing down, flip it and reverse it'OR
'Is it worth it? Let me work it
I put my thing down, flip it and ensure that it definitely remains flipped
Ti esrever dna ti pilf, nwod gniht ym tup
Ti esrever dna ti pilf, nwod gniht ym tup'
So - what other lyrics can you think of that are rubbish and/or don't make sense? -

I know. I literally did this joke the other day by posting the word 'bump' on a thread from about fifteen years ago with 0 posts.
I had calculated my reply to your post was worded sincerely enough that you'd think I was being serious and therefore respond with something like the above, in turn giving me the opportunity to explain myself. Thus successfully resurrecting a necrothread with our little back and forth. -
This thread is from 2006.
