  1. Just so I don't get interpreted incorrectly what I was trying to say was:

    • What the guy got CHARGED for wasn't really deserving of a 9 year sentence. There is absolutely no suggestion in the article that the girls were raped, abused or even regretted what happened. They met up with him and had consensual sex...they probably knew full well when meeting him that this is what he was interested in.
There are thousands of 14 year old girls who are maturer both mentally and physically than their age would suggest. Plenty of these girls know fine well what they're doing and even go out looking for older guys so assuming that these girls weren't really innocent little children (which, in my opinion most 14 year olds nowadays are not) then does the guy really deserve 9 years based on these charges alone?
    • The guy had child porn on his computer and was obviously going for underage girls. This is also illegal behaviour and I believe he should have been charged for this, or at least put on the sex offenders list or held because of the potential risk to young girls he may pose in the future. The unhealthy obsession he has will most likely get worse in time and whereas he might be happy with consensual sex with 14 year olds for now in the future he may go for younger girls, or turn to rape.

So to conclude yes the guy is sick and needs to be watched/punished but it was the consensual sex he got charged for. I think at 14 a girl knows what shes doing and a 19 year old guy shouldnt be sent to prison for 9 years for being involved with her in a mutually consenting way (sorry to keep repeating that, but a lot of you brought up "rape" so I think its important to make the difference between the two).

    And to reply to:

so, you think grooming is a great lead up to "consentual sex" ?

No, I think grooming young children is not acceptable but I just don't believe that 14 year old girls are that naive and innocent that they don't know better...especially with all the media coverage on paedophiles and why young girls shouldn't meet with strangers off the internet.

  2. I could do...it and in a faster tiem than you.

I had a massive burger consisting of:

    Two burgers

    Cheese

    Chilli

    Salad

    Onion rings

    Relish

    Bacon

And that was jsut in the burger. With chips, and soem other stuff.

    Took about 7 minutes...

    I have the force.

Well Geoff managed his first 3 in 8 minutes which I found pretty impressive. I'm afraid I'll have to doubt your "I'm a better subway muncher than you" claims until I see them proved in person though :p .

Set another date and I shall turn up...as a spectator only this time though  .

  3. volume and mass are not the same' date=' and one can vary, the other does not.

    much like WEIGHT and MASS...

but, we'll leave the guinea pig scientists to sort that all out, the last statement, was made as a sort of light hearted finish, sorry if I offended.[/quote']

I know they're not the same and I know the difference between the two. I could likewise say to you "Volume and surface area are not the same, one can vary and the other does not".

However I do have better things to do with my time than argue about the volume of blended guinea pigs  so I think I can agree to disagree.

  4. if you took evey atom of a guinea pig' date=' and made a thin (one atom deep) cube out of it, it's volume would be massive[/quote']

You mean its surface area would be massive. Imagine a guinea pig as a 20cm long by 10cm wide by 5cm tall block: its volume is the same as if you then squish the guinea big and it becomes a block of 100cm long by 20 cm wide by 0.5cm high...

The only thing that changes is the surface area of the guinea pig. the number of atoms and matter there (i.e. volume) is still the same.

compress the guinea pig under massive pressure, its volume would be drastically reduced, but the MASS would remain the same. (same as a black hole, in pricipal, tiny object (little or no volume) HUGE mass, large enough to bend light.

I can't comment on this because I haven't done advanced studies into physics...maybe volume can change when you're talking about forces in the magnitude of black holes. But we're talking about blenders here, not black holes so I don't see how this is relevant ?( .

A, The amount of space occupied by a three-dimensional object or region of space, expressed in cubic units.

B, The capacity of such a region or of a specified container, expressed in cubic units.

Totally true, I agree 100%. Neither contradict my arguement. The only reason the whole guinea pig doesn't fit as well in the container is because all of its parts are still joined and resisting compression.

you're still not getting the volume concept, eh....

I understand the concept of volume perfectly well thank you...my whole education has been science based so I would be pretty fucked if I hadn't grasped that yet  .

More to the point though...just assuming or suggesting I'm ignorant to add to your arguement doesn't really get you anywhere so its best left out.

  5. no' date=' I can safely say a blended guinea pig would have less volume than a whole guinea pig... blend 5 apples, I think that's about the same mass / volume, it'll weight the same at the end of the experiment, but, you'll find it's less volume, for sure. (try and fit a blended guinea pig into a glass, easy, stuff one into a glass whole, not so easy).

    trust me on this.[/quote']

Thats just because the blended guinea pig is more fluid and so is more easily shaped...there is still exactly the same amount of guinea pig matter (i.e. volume of guinea pig).

Would you say there is a greater volume of solid concrete in a block than there is in the fluid concrete you used to create the block (I was going to use water and ice here, but then realised that some smart ass might comment on how the water molecules act in a different way when frozen :p )? You wouldn't, or at least I hope you wouldn't.

The fluid concrete would be much more easy to fit in a small cylinder than the block of concrete would, but they are still the same volume. They take up the same amount of space, but the fluid version is much more easily to shape, allowing it to fill up all the space in the cylinder and giving it the appearance of having a smaller volume although really it doesn't.

The same can be applied to the guinea pig.

  6. mass' date=' yes, volume, no.

imagine a 2 litle bottle of air, it's 2 litres, squash it down, it's not 2 litres anymore, but it's still the same mass.[/quote']

Only problem is guinea pigs aren't made of air ?( .

Gas can be compressed into a smaller volume, liquids and solds can't.

The guinea pigs would be a soup of solids and liquids once you'd blended them so they would have the same mass AND volume. However they would have a different surface area and so would take up less room.

  7. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/5106612.stm

Rather worrying that now you can be sent off to prison longer for having consensual sex with 13/14 year old girls than you can for murder.

A murderer with a life sentence could potentially be released after 5 years where as this guy will probably have to serve the full term of his sentence because there is more of a stigma attached to his crime.

I'm not in any way condoning what he did or was trying to do...the evidence (the child porn and such) showed that he was a sick bastard but the crime he is getting charged for is having consensual sex with girls old enough to have an idea of what he must be after...bearing in mind he was 19 at the time (not that big an age gap) I think its shocking that you can get punished more for this than murder 8o

  8. I such much of this first hand as i was in the blue campsite' date=' it wasnt scary it was such a good laugh. People were pulling down electricty lines and throwing gas canisters onto fires. All you could see along the horizon was huge napalm like wooshes:love: . We camped next to a bin area and the next day it was all over the shop and the police had various clashes with a small gang that were basically destroying everything.[/quote']

Wow, I guess you must be right...I mean how could I not have seen that causing gas canisters to explode on fires which were right next to a field of very closely packed tents was "a good laugh". I mean who cares that it only takes tents seconds to melt down and stick to the flesh of any innocent person who could be sleeping inside...or that the high flammability of tents could cause the whole field to go up in flames. How could anyone possibly find that scary? What a retard I must be for having thought that.

And as for knocking down electricity lines and destroying the burger vans...doesn't that sound fun too? Being completely disrespectful to the people who put in all that effort setting up the festival for us and just causing them to raise ticket prices to cover the damage for next year.

  9. I had a great weekend, but reading the Download forum now it seems there were very violent riots, explosions, damage and clashes with police. I was in the Red camp site which was pretty quiet, and got a reasonably early night so i missed all of this...knowing it all happened is making me feel lucky to get away ok though, and seriously putting me off going back again  .

  10. According to the Sunday times today:

Aberdeen has the highest level of antisocial behaviour in Scotland, followed by Glagsow.

Edinburgh has highest crime rates over all, with the highest rate of drug offences, acts of vandalism, fire-raising and crimes involving offensive weapons.

Glasgow has the highest rate of murders, attempted murders, serious assaults and robberies.

Is anyone else suprised? I wouldn't have thought Aberdeen was more anti-social than Glasgow, or that Edinburgh had that much crime ?( . I suppose you could expect Edinburgh to have more drug problems and thefts because it attracts more tourists and money though.

  11. From http://www.budgies.org/

In general, the color of a budgie's cere is the simplest indicator of sex in adult budgies: males are blue, and females are white, light beige, reddish, or brown. While it is fairly accurate, the color of the cere cannot always be used to sex a budgie. With some color varieties, like albinos, lutinos, fallows, and some recessive pieds like harlequins, both males and females have beige or pink colored ceres.

Yours is yellow, so its quite possible that it is a fallow one, and therefore it could be male or female. Maybe you could take it to the vet and find out which it is? The sex of it might effect someones decision to buy it or not.

  12. Are you sure about that crime rate ?( ?

I spent a month in Bulgaria with just one other girl, we spent a lot of time in town and went out at night a few times and we had absolutely to problem at all. Everyone was really friendly and helpful.

Maybe it just depends on what part of Bulgaria you're in

  13. hmm. I was thinking about getting a fishtank after a visit to St Andrews aquarium recently triggered memories of the tropical fish we used to have when I was wee.

Anyone got any advice for starting out?

I would check out the beginner forum on www.myfishtank.net (or reject_monkey's forum) both will probably tell you all the information you need to start out and keep the fish healthy.

I'd look into that if I were you. A mate of mine had a huge tank' date=' and he had to get builders in to reinforce his floor. Putting nearly half a tonne on a small area of your floor can be risky...[/quote']

Gah, I was semi joking when I said that. I'll just have to hope I have strong floors. How do you go about reinforcing the floor anyway?
