  1. Those boss type switches are a bitch, you can't just swap them with a regular switch, you have to put the new switch in a different place in the circuit. That's unless you're rehousing it into another boss type enclosure and a boss type switch. It could be done though.

Is this pedal a clone of a boss hm-2?

  2. Looking good there!

I tried a graphic for the first time recently, I used glass transfer stickers from staples, printed them with my inkjet. After sticking it on, I gave it a coat of polyurethane spray to coat it some more. Came out reasonably OK! I've been advised to get brush on coating, as it did get a bit piss-like yellow where I sprayed too much

  3. if something is fried, it should be a mater of just replacing any damaged parts. There could be a problem if a part is hard to get I suppose, but not much is hard to get these days. A short circuit isn't usually a problem to actually fix once you've found it either.

If these guys don't come through for you, I'd be happy to have a look. The more info you can get from them the better though. Give us a bell if you need a hand

  4. Sounds like you've moved something other than the led when you did this one. Worth checking whether you pulled another wire loose or damaged any other connection when moving bits around. It's quite easy to crack a solder joint if you have to move stuff around a bit.

I could have a look for you, but not for a few weeks at least. I'm backed out the door with stuff to do just now, wish there was more time for tinkering with pedals. Let us know if it's still bust in a fortnight and I'll have a bash, no bother.

  5. Poodle's kits are really good. I think you'd be okay if you can solder well already, His PCBs are quite compact (at least the ones I've used). This is great for fitting it in the box neatly and leaves plenty of room for your wires and all the rest. A bit trickier to solder though.

All the info you need for wiring is there, but it does take a little bit of decoding. On the plus side, that's probably gonna help you to learn more.

Poodle's kits are dirt cheap, so definitely worth a go if you feel anywhere near confident. If you're not sure, he would probably suggest something more suitable if you fire him an email.

  6. Good work! The most head scratching and frustrating problems I've had with circuits have turned out to be something like this. It's often the most ridiculously simple thing ever. It's easy for wires to break or joints to come loose if you're moving it all into or out of the case.

  7. I bought some thin sheets of foam, which are easy to cut to size any glue into the enclosure at any points where things might touch the case, really useful stuff. Think I got it from Dr Tweek.

Good luck with the Rat! Sounds like you're nearly there

  8. What's everyone's thought's on making your own PCB's?

This guy makes it sound easy.

Etching your own PCBs is entirely possible, but I find it unnecessary. I wouldn't recommend this unless you are making several copies of the same circuit. I've made a few, with varying success. It can be hard to get all of the circuit right, but I'm sure that would come with practice.

Circuit etching leaves you with some nasty chemicals which are hard to dispose of responsibly (They will corrode copper pipes, so don't tip them down the drain!). Using perf or strip board can be very tidy if you plan your layout and wiring well. Strip board is great, really easy to use. I only use PCBs that I have bought from suppliers, never bother etching now.

Some people favour point-to-point wiring over PCBs and will claim that it affects sound in amplifiers, don't think it makes any difference in pedals though.

  9. yup, the delivery charge is nearly double the price of the unit itself. I know that there used to be a few folk who charged folk to pick stuff up on their behalf from the store, but google doesn't know anything about them these days. Maybe they're not on the go anymore. The search continues...

  10. I'm looking for another of these CD towers as my Cd collection grows to ever more unhealthy levels. If you have one of these, you'll know which one I mean!! If you have one for sale (preferably black or white) then I'm interested. If you're off to Ikea soon and could pick one up for me (you might need a big car, they're pretty long), I'd be willing to pay you to do so.

If you can help, PM me here please

  11. Apparently this might be a Laney, it has the similar build and speakers to the old (80s?) 4x10s. Any markings are long gone, whatever it is.
