[/color']
Dropped them off around 8:15 - hope you got them - big thanks
-
Yes it is. It's from 'The Music of Erich Zann' written December 1921.
If you've come across an album called 'Astronomicon' by "Without Face" they did a song called 'The violin of Erich Zann' also.
Somehow' date=' I didn't think anyone would see the significance of the name.[/quote']
Didn't know about the song ... will have to try and find it.
Yes .. I now see you have a cthulhu icon too. It's not one of Lovecraft's better known stories, but I was obsessed with him for years, and think I've read just about everything he's written - so I recognised the name, although I can't remember how the story goes.
-
"One God Universe! Crikey! That takes me back..."
Thought i would slip it in' date=' didn't think anyone would notice. Hardly goth, but they were the best band Aberdeen has ever had (IMHO)[/quote']
I don't suppose you ever heard 'Nervous Choir', who later became 'The Ramjet Rubber Company'? ... Now they were by far the best Aberdeen band in my opinion - must remember to play them next time.
-
Ah - thank you both ... it's great to know that somebody appreciates it
'Erich Zann'? That's a Lovecraft character/story isn't it?

**Elizophonika**
Saturday 30th October
Moshulu Back Room
22:30 - 03:00
Since it's the fifth Saturday of the month, DJ's Jaymz ( Elizium / Gothika ), Jimsin & Broken_Doll (Xenophon) will be combining forces to shake up the back room with the very best of what the respective nights have to offer. Expect a giddy combination of EBM & Industrial beats, floaty angst ridden goth, and a random onslaught of eclectic insanity.
Normal service resumes next week.

Re: Venue
Originally posted by Flash@TMB:It was between where Drakes and The Drift Inn are now, underneath the Douglas Hotel. It's still there but disused. It would be good it the CPL place opened there but there are long odds on that option...
The Venue closed in err 1989.
I may be wearing rose tinted specs but it still ranks as the best venue we ever had in my opinion.
Flash
I couldn't agree with you more. I love Moshulu & Elizium - I miss The Palace .. but The Venue has a special place in my heart. That place was magical! I remember back then, some of the older people used to talk fondly of 'Valhallas' - but I doubt if anybody on this board would remember that. I'm 37 and it was before my time even.
I went to some function where The Venue used to be, back around 95 ... it was sooo horrible inside - they'd done it all up with wedding parties in mind, and it was just heartbreaking. It still cuts deep to know that it was bought over and shut down, practically destroying the scene in Aberdeen for years ... and all to create some underused function suite at the back of a hotel. Grrrrr!!
-
Since it's Valentine's day on Saturday, your beloved (Ha!) Xenophon DJs will be filling the Moshulu backroom with the sounds of love. But we're not talking love on a chocolate box - we're talking love that really rocks!!
It's going to be a sensual ravishment ... the windows would go all steamy (if there were any) ... we'll be exploring love from every imaginable angle (?!) and won't be stopping until we're spent (3am).
So please, come join us in our lovebubble, our passion palace, our ... erm ... lust lounge - for the the most exotic, erotic experience this side of Windmill Brae.
For your information - here's the Playlist from 31st January (which will have nothing in common with the Lovefest described above).

however, last night was positively silent compared with last saturday...what the fuck the dj's were playing at i don't know. it would go from some horrifically too loud bad punk cover of some already poor 80's classic into 250bpm rave music. i shit you not, if you weren't there you'll not appreciate how awful it was.
i was under the impression the back room was supposed to be a quieter alternative to the main room, which i understand is supposed to be loud...but really, last saturday was just taking the piss.
2nd & 4th Saturdays in the backroom are me and Broken_Doll's 'Xenophon' night. Our priority is to put on a fun night, to play music that you won't hear elsewhere, and yes - we play a lot of cover versions to keep it from being too obscure.
We have a lot of people come to our night, because it's their only chance to hear some of the more obscure, non-commercial stuff - so we're not setting out to play 'chillout' music. My personal attitude is that there's plenty of time to chillout when people get home - but that's just me.
Anyway - I am sorry to hear that what you heard was not to your taste ... as for the volume issue - like Nullmouse said, it gets hard to judge when the room is busy ... it sounds a lot quieter in the DJ booth than in the corners of the room, and when the background noise gets louder, there is no option other than to play louder. Also our night usually has a lot of people dancing, and it's hard to dance when the music is really quiet. Having said that, we don't want to make conversation an impossibility, so we'll try to ensure we don't burst any eardrums in future

Oh my God! I was wondering what happened to my minidisk player, wallet, ring, scarf, jumper and bracelet. I really must stop drinking so much. I'll be in to pick them up on Wednesday

how many people actually go on a monday these days anyway? a couple of hundred? it was always dead when I used to go.....
Was still IMHO the best night on a Monday by miles ... not to mention the fact that the drinks had just been dropped to 1 like they were @ The Palace.
As Aberdeen's longest running Alternative night I'd have thought that there would be some sort of announcement if it was really coming to an end. Still, I can't see my friends making it up
-
Getting ready for MUD & got a call to say there's a notice on the door saying that after many years it's finally come to an end.
I hadn't heard anything about this & all seems very sudden. Is it really true? I've been going to Mud Club in it's various incarnations since the dawn of time. I don't think I can handle a world without it *sob*

Greetings Xenophiles!
I'm happy to announce that Xenophon will now be running on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month - tucked away behind Air Guitar, in Moshulu's backroom.
For anybody who hasn't been yet, it's a very broad spectrum 'eclectic' night. Hard to describe it, but right now Xenophon loves .... * Rasputina * Ladytron * Fischerspooner * Ex-Girl * Melt Banana * NIN * Placebo * Hole * Le Tigre * Veruca Salt * Atari Teenage Riot * Tool * Depeche Mode * Soft Cell * Apoptygma Berzerk * Garbage * Snake River Conspiracy * Peaches * Kidney Thieves * Sneaker Pimps * Lisa Germano * Laibach * Yeah Yeah Yeahs * The Kills * Queen Adreena * Tori Amos * Siouxsie & The Banshees * Patti Smith * Therion * Bis * Killing Joke * Incubus * Fingathing * Motormark * Sparks * Human League * Prince * ... and many more (we're free and easy with our love!)
If anybody has anything they'd particularly like to hear, then please let us know and we'll try to jam it in somewhere.
-
Yes .. Xenophon is back ~ delivering candy coated nuggets of musical pleasure. Not going to bore anybody with the playlists, but for anybody who doesn't know - it's a big eclectic mix of stuff, Electroclash, "Grunge", Gabba, New Romantic, Britpop, Cartoon themes etc. Sprinkle with a liberal dose of cover versions, add some chemical X, and Hey Presto, you got Xenophon. Come and join us, you know you want to! (it's free once you've paid for your Air Guitar admission).[

Many thanks for your kind offer - but Caldach has just furnished me with about a zillion cartoon themes with everything from The Clangers to Dexters Lab ... including the Chundercats!
Look foward to seeing you on Saturday.
Supernaut IV: Friday 20th May
in Krakatoa

Yes, I should have pointed out that the *intermission* was for the band - and the music played prior to that was played very much with the band crowd in mind, as opposed to the usual Supernaut music.
