  1. Haha - you are the eagle eyed one. Good to know somebody reads these things.

Did play Le Tigre twice that night but Deceptacon only once. Explanation: the 1st Le Tigre track was illegible on our hastily scrawled playlist , so took a guess that it was Deceptacto without realising it was already on the list further down. Think it was probably 'Phanta' - so have amended that now.

PS: Thanks for all your supportive comments about Supernaut and Xenophon over the years. I don't always reply but they are always much appreciated.

  4. Seems stupid reviving a thread from Dec 2004 - at the time the idea was to replace nights running a mix of non-mainstream alternative music with quiet jazz type music and cocktails.

Nearly 2 years have passed, and music policy has changed again - what Hobgoth was complaining about isn't an issue anymore.

  5. Thanks. I will probably give one of these nights a visit within the next couple of weeks.

I am not sure how to promote such an event. I think knowing lots of people is probably your main virtue when starting it off.

Also on the mainstream issue. I think you will find that a lot of people find the alternative crowd a lot more friendly than the crowd in dance clubs. I know people who go to the likes of Moshulu and The Moorings who are not into rock music' date=' but find the crowd more pleasant and friendly. This however is not always the case.

Is my suggestion that you try promoting your club nights to people who aren't into the music? no but i think you will find some people will come along anyway out of curiosity when they hear of this. Some will return.[/quote']

Thank you for your thoughts and comments, they are very much appreciated. I guess I'm lucky in that I do know lots of people, and that was probably a large factor in getting over 120 people to the last Xenophon. I definitely agree with you about the alternative crowd being generally more friendly ... the only places I really enjoy going in Aberdeen are Moshulu, The Moorings and The Bassment.

My big concern about promoting Xenophon to people who aren't in into the music is that I don't want the people who currently go to be hassled by a bunch of louts because of what they're wearing etc. There's currently a great atmosphere amongst the people who go, and perhaps the best way is for that to spread by word of mouth amongst those who are into that kind of thing.

Anyway - I'm guessing that there will probably be an Elizium in September, and there will possibly be a Xenophon, but the only one that's definitely confirmed at the moment is Xenophon on Saturday 19th August - so if you're curious, then I'll maybe see you there.

  6. Is there something every Saturday along the heavy rock or alternative electronic vein? i.e if i turn up on a Saturday not mentioned above will I end up in a dance night or will be it closed?

This is quite confusing. I don't usually decide where exactly I am going until I am town and it often changes later in the night. If someone produced a comprehensive list of club nights at the metro' date=' it might help people like me choose where/when to go.

I reckon these sorts of club nights could get a lot more people with some publicity. I probably would have been to a Sanctuary rock night if I had heard of it, before it hapepned. This could possibly be something to promote at freshers week if they are going to be started again (which I have seen no mention of). A lot of people I have spoken to feel there is nowhere to go in terms of clubs for this sort of thing.[/quote']

It is quite confusing at the moment because there was going to be metal every Friday & every second Saturday - with Elizium and Xenophon (which can loosely be described as alternative / electronic nights ) on the other two Saturdays.

With the metal nights having stopped, there is a bit of uncertainty as to what will fill their place, but I'm suspecting it will probably be DJ type nights.

I can't speak for Elizium, but for Xenophon I have posters all over town, post about it wherever I can online, and also give out flyers. If you can think of any further ways of getting people to know about it,then please let me know & I'll do it straight away. I think it's a very unique night for Aberdeen and I really want people to know about it. I can't make any announcements about September yet though, because I finance it myself, and whether I can afford to do one depends very much upon the success of this one. The July Xenophon had a good turnout though, so I'm feeling optimistic.

I guess you know about it now, so that's a start :D

ps: Freshers week is indeed a good time to do promotion - I've done flyering for Xenophon & Obedience School at the last few Freshers Fairs, although it seems that each year there are less and less Freshers who look as if they would be interested in anything non-mainstream. You can't judge a book by it's cover though, so it's worth persevering.

  7. Does the metro have a website with useful information about club nights and such? My google search didn't find anything.

They don't have a website' date=' but some of the nights which run there do.

Daz had set up Corrosion as a regular Friday night and Sanctualy on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. The first Saturday of the month is Elizium ([url']www.elizium.net) and the third Saturday is Xenophon (www.xeno-phon.co.uk & www.myspace.com/xenophonix ).

Seems Corrosion and Sanctuary have both stopped - Elizium was on August 5th, and Xenophon is going to be happening on August 19th. There have been no announcements as yet about what will be happening with them in September.

It looks like they have got somebody new to arrange nights in there - I heard that they are looking for 'big name' DJs, and they have posters up for one such person 'Fergie' ( http://www.djfergie.co.uk/fergie_dj_home.html ) on the 18th. I'd imagine that if this is a success they will have other DJs in there for more dance nights.

Sad that Daz's nights didn't get more support, coz although I'm not a huge fan of metal, it's infinitely preferable to 'big name DJs' in my book.

  8. xenaugustweb.jpg

Many thanks to everybody who attended the last Xenophon - especially those who made the effort to dress up.

The next one is happening on Saturday August 19th at The Pelican. The (optional) dress theme is 'Evil' - anything evil from fact or fiction, or just your own interpretation of evil itself. The more fun & imaginative the better. Once again there will be half price admission for the 'extravagantly attired' and a prize for the best outfit.

  9. took a gander yesterday. its looking nice

the menu is looking nicer. the chef is a well respected chef

    Did you get in?

I went there today - there was a note on the door saying 'not open til Tuesday'. We were hovering in the door thinking 'but this is Tuesday' getting funny looks from what looked like workmen sitting around inside - so decided to leave.

    Not the best start.

    Truax will be great though.

  10. Do you fancy him with the poodle perm hair in the 80's or his straight hair now?

Reb has also been a session guitar player for Eric Clapton' date=' Bob Dylan, Roger Daltrey,

Chaka Kahn, Howard Jones, and Twisted Sister.

my night is always different, the night will depend on who comes out so anything could happen.

The door entry is £3 before 12 £4 after.

But if i dont get the numbers up i may have to stop this night as well.

Do you you think i should make it free before 11.30pm?

    Daz[/quote']

I don't think you should make it free before 11:30, you could never cover your costs.

I don't think the problem is anything to do with the costs, or the venue - it's just the way things have gone in Aberdeen over the last few years. Interest in clubbing is dwindling and it's harder and harder to generate any interest in anything outside the mainstream. I've been flyering at The Fresher's Fair for a few years now, and the great majority of people coming into Aberdeen are the types that go to Liquid and reckon they've had a great night out. It's lucky to even see somebody you'd want to giver flyer to in the first place :S

On the other side of things, I reckon that most people under 18 realise what a dead end this place is becoming and get the hell out of here as soon as they hit university age.

I'd like to think that this situation will change over time, but it's going to be slow progress - and needs some of the people who sit and moan about there being nothing to do in Aberdeen to stop complaining and start going out more. That's my take on it anyway.

  11. Just a quick note to say that due to unforseen circumstances, the July Supernaut has been postponed to next Friday (28th), and Sonic Shake has been brought forward to tonight (21st).

Normal service will be resumed next month with Supernaut falling on August 18th & Sonic Shake on the 25th.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused by this change.

  12. Juno Reactor mix of 'Guilty' is the one i used to play upstairs in The Palace about 8 or 9years ago.

    do you have?

Once in a lifetime by Wolfsheim

    Special Liqiud by Scorn

    Dark andgel by VNV Nation

Vulcan remix by Snake river conspiracy

    I desire you by Charon

The rain within her hands by Bella Morte

    Mirrors Paradise by Covenant

    Daz

Plenty requests there Daz :) I always associate the likes of Wolfsheim / VNV / Covenant etc. with Elizium (although they'll probably kill me for saying that) - but will certainly have them with me, and play them if people will dance.

    SRC Vulcan is a must!

Essentially we'd be keen on most 'alternative' music if people will dance - just want to get away from the really commercial stuff you hear all the time.

  13. Kinda hard when I'm 500 miles away' date=' no? :p I won't be in Aberdeen for any length of time until next summer now, so....bit hard to show my face really :\

Anyway, the club night isn't my scene at all, but there's nothing wrong with hoping it's a success, right?[/quote']

500 miles eh ... can we pay for your taxi? :D

Many thanks for the good wishes - they are extremely welcome!

  14. New Snake River Conspiracy album? Where did you find this out? Last I heard the duo were finished!

Straight from the horse's mouth: http://www.snakeriverconspiracy.com/ - having said that - I'm sure that, I could have sworn they replaced Tobey with somebody else & they were planning on changing their sound a lot .... I really liked their sound exactly the way that it was, and Tobey was the best part - so am somewhat anxious - but will remain excited anyway :D

  15. Hey Jim' date='

    Any Chance you can play

Gravity Kills - guilty (remixes) ?

    Neflim - exodus (remix) ?

    Snake River Conspiracy (remix) ?

    Please

    DAZ[/quote']

That particular Nefilim track is maybe a bit more thrashy than what we're aiming for - but the Juno Reactor mix of 'Guilty' would work well - and we'll definitely be playing some Snake River Conspiracy. (looking forward to their new album coming out soon).

Oh, and we've succumbed to the Myspace Plague *feels dirty*

  16. Yay! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

After all the moaning I hear about the lack of alternative nights in Aberdeen' date=' it's good to know that somebody is enthusiastic - big thanks for the encouragement :D

the tatu album has quite a few songs in russian, there's one which translates as 'gay boy' which is kinda cute too.

I can't believe I just admitted having that CD.

Haha ... I started liking the idea of Tatu the moment Richard and Judy attempted to urge parents to boycott their single. Aside from the daytime TV controversy I wasn't that impressed by their music at first, but they've grown on me since. They really murdered 'How Soon Is Now?' on that album though.

  17. julyxenophon.jpg

After a 12 month absence, Xenophon is back on Saturday July 15th - and subsequently on the third Saturday of each month at The Pelican Club.

Music will be varied and eclectic - but 'electro-alternative' is the pigeonhole we're running with.

Admission is £4.00, but as before we love it when people make the effort to dress up a bit - so £2.00 for the 'extravagantly attired' and a small prize for the best outfit.

Visit www.xeno-phon.co.uk for more information, galleries, previous playlists etc.

A dedicated forum will be up and running shortly, but any requests or queries are most welcome here.

  18. Would you like me to bring the Soft Cell 12" collection? Foetus? That'll frighten them.... Have also acquired a copy of The Stupids 'Retard Picnic' on cd.

That aside' date=' carry on as usual - we are very much looking forward to it.

    F

    xx[/quote']

Many thanks - please do bring that Soft Cell CD - I will love you forever ( not that I don't already ).

I have found one Foetus track since last we spoke - very interesting. Will be happy to play something you bring, so long as it's upbeat and danceable :D

The Stupids? I think I saw them on a TV show long long long ago ...

  19. the cramps - 'u got good taste' - its on smell of female.

if my brother hasnt nicked it' date=' i might still have it if you dont and could bring it along?[/quote']

"This one's for all you Gucci bag carriers out there!" ... haha - I never knew what a gucci bag was til years after I heard that song.

Will def play it tonight :D
