I got roped into a Monday night Quiz thing upstairs in the Illicit Still - we came 2nd. Is on each week at 9:30, so you could try that.
-
i was just thinking today' date=' moshulu is the new liquid.
loads of people wearing the same brands, drinking the same thing, dancing to the same cheesy hits.
aberdeen needs a new underground club for the masses, and i'm not talking sub-terranean.[/quote']
And a new club will get them wearing different brands & making different choices about what they drink?
-
I've been before and it's pervert heaven. I felt like a dog with two dicks.
haha ... we'll have to put that on the next flyer.
-
at first i wanted to go to this' date=' never been befor and just wondered what it would be like. not really anymore, i dont like the thought of the missus walking aboot in the nip infront of aberdeens perverts and drunks, i know you will say "its not about that" but you just KNOW it will be full of pervs, DRUNK pervs. NOT saying everyone there will be there to perv, just saying it will be full of them.
(also i dont think the missus will let me go:laughing:)[/quote']
Brushing off the dictionary.com - 'Pervert' = a person whose behavior deviates from what is acceptable especially in sexual behavior.
The crux word here is 'acceptable' - I think that amongst the Obedience School crowd, most kinds of sexual enjoyment are seen as acceptable, so long as they are consensual and between adults. To somebody who's anxious about trying anything other than the missionary position - then yes .... it will be filled with all sorts of unacceptable behavior - thus a nest of filthy perverts. ( who will no doubt be somewhat more open minded, and enjoying themselves more in general).
Can't even believe these attitudes exist in this day and age - but really, I think it's quite healthy that people with closed attitudes like this don't tend to turn up to the nights.
-
Would definitely have come along but it clashes with Killing Joke in Glasgow (selfish lot that they are' date=' rescheduling their gig). I was going to get my boots all polished as well.... :-([/quote']
Maybe I could email Jaz, Geordie et al and suggest they have the Killing Joke afterparty @ Obedience School. I'm sure that if they pushed it, they could make it up to Aberdeen for midnight - would be nice if they could do some acoustic numbers in the backroom - "The House That Pain Built" might work quite well.
-
aww' date=' it sounds ace. Slip in 'antique high heel red doll shoes' by Rasputina and it's pretty much perfect [/quote']
"Daintier, smarter, better dressed!" ... great idea. I've been in the habit of playing "State Fair" and (predictably) "Transylvanian Concubine" - but AHHRDS would be wonderful. Will bring it tomorrow.
If anybody out there has any requests - then please feel free to post them here.

More eclectic, goth-tinted musical carnage from the people who brought you Supernaut XIII last month.
You'd be mad to miss it.
Will add last month's playlist shortly.

i'm not sure what's going on if she'll be performing. we'd certainly like her too' date=' but i don't think jim has had total confirmation from her yet.[/quote']
Unfortunately she won't be performing at this one - but should be in the lineup for the October one ... ( assuming that there is an October one ).
-
we are so much better than killing joke!
Having been a die-hard Killing Joke fan for over 20 years, I'd have to shy away from agreeing with that .... Killing Joke are Gods!
But Obedience School will be a lot more fun

Here's a list of all the historic alternative clubs / club nights that I can recall. Perhaps someone can help add to this' date=' or fill in more detail. Jimsin - you probably remember a few of these:
Ritzy's / Bonkers / The Palace .............
[/quote']
That's a pretty conclusive list Flash.
I guess you could add the whole St Katherine's club / Summer Street Community Centre type scene in the early eighties - Valhallas before The Venue, Drakes wasn't exactly a club - but should get a mention anyway for outstanding contribution towards Aberdeen's music scene- then there's the likes of Elizium and Lashed which have moved around from venue to venue and still maintain a devoted following.
Forme, nothing will ever compare to The Venue - but it's funny because when The Venue closed everybody went on about how great it was and how terrible The Palace was. When The Palace closed everybody moaned about how great is was and how terrible Moshulu is. When Moshulu closes (everything closes in the end) everybody will go on about how great it was and moan about whatever replaces it. Everything gets boring if you do it week in week out, and I'm sure everybody can envisage some sort of dream club full of amazing people where the music is exactly to their taste - but right now as far as clubs are concerned I think that Moshulu are doing by far the best job.

"Stare too deeply into the Abyss and the Abyss stares back into you"
Just a last minute reminder that it's Supernaut's first birthday this Friday.
Playlist from last time available here: http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32223.
-
Much as though I'd love to see a bit more variety in Aberdeen - I think that a club along the lines of Edinburgh's Opium opening would be the worst thing that could happen ... there just isn't enough interest in the rock/alternative 'scene' up here and you'd end up with two half empty clubs instead of one fairly full one.
Sounds like it's gonna be more like the clientelle from the old Escobar though .... who were pretty much posing hipsters.
-
You mean Big Chris with the (very) stinky feet.
Well he's certainly extremely tall Chris ... haven't been close enough to his feet to pass judgement on the second part - but I'm happy to take your word for it

Don't forget Starbucks - won't be long now till we have a wonderful homogenized world where everywhere is the same wherever you go.

ha!
I thought it was a really great performance from Amanda but I kind of wished she'd not come back on stage.. I really liked the Scottish song she did but can't remember the name she said.. Anyone?
The Scottish song she sang was "I Want You, But I don't Need You" by Momus. Thought that was a great cover .. although I thought the two covers she sang when she came back on stage were a bit dreary compared to the original Dresden Dolls material.
Having seen her playing with Brian in Edinburgh, I'd say that some of the chemistry and energy was missing ... but at the same time she totally played her heart out, was incredible in her own right - and how anybody could have found it dull is beyond me.
Big thanks to everybody involved in bringing them up to Aberdeen .. it's wonderful to be able to see a great performance like that without having to travel to Edinburgh or Glasgow.
-
It's my birthday so all other requests are null and void.
I would like some Jack Off Jill' date=' Curve and Prodigy when I show up. Should hopefully be about nine/half nine? [/quote']
Will play that cool Slayer/ ATR mix from Spawn soundtrack ... not sure about the other requests .. will see if I can locate them .. Jack Off Jill, Curve & Prodigy will all be played whether you like it or not

I used to go to Lava quite regularly, but stopped going when it changed to Kef. The reason for me was the booths ... I go clubbing to socialise & meet people - you'd go in with a group of people, find a booth - and everybody would stay put for fear of losing it.
Always felt strange going to a club to sit in a booth with the people you came in with. You could leave the booth & then poke your head into another booth to see people glaring at you for invading their booth.
The dancefloor always felt rather far away - people didn't want to leave their precious booths & at the end of the night when the lights came on, you were left wondering why you didn't just have a party in your own living room instead of a booth.
So yes - I guess I wasn't too keen on the booths
-
bet it was pete who asked for the manowar
However did you guess?
Must admit that as CD covers go' date=' it's the funniest one I've ever seen.

It sounds like a nice idea ... but this is Aberdeen & I'd be wary about investing in it - good luck to those involved though.
