  1. Interesting. I've been charged somewhere in the region of 250 over the last three months due to my employer repeatedly fucking up my pay. Guess I must be a huge idiot.

Sometimes circumstances dictate financial difficulties' date=' it's not always the persons fault. It's also very difficult to rectify the situation when your bank is subsequently hitting you for punitive charges not in anyway related to the cost to them AT THE VERY TIME THEY KNOW YOU CAN'T AFFORD THEM.

The interesting thing is that in addition to the overlimit fee (30 with RBS) and the fee for failed Standing Orders etc (28 with RBS), you get charged interest on what you're over your limit by. This, I would suggest, is a lot closer to what it actually costs the bank to cover your excess and I have never had one of these that's been more than 3. And even this is at a punitive interest rate of 30%-odd.

I'll be sending off the letters mentioned earlier to both my banks.[/quote']

Actually, having just checked my various accounts, since the start of *this* year, I've been charged a whopping 403. Tell me that's representative of the cost to the bank(s).

  2. No' date=' it sounds like an idiot tax. If you're stupid, you get taxed, sounds fair enough to me. Why should sensible people subsidise the stupid?[/quote']

  3. Congrats and of course I think it's great that you split the Old Firm ' date=' but while there was still a chance of Aberdeen getting into Europe at the expense of Hearts gaining second place, I wanted that to happen firstly.[/quote']

To be honest it was th mini-Huns shit that pissed me off, 'cos I hate them as much as anyone (as does every jambo I know).

  4. Hopefully we can repay the huns by beating their diddy chums
    Fuck off!

We can at least take Heart (excuse the pun) that we're going into probably our toughest match of the season following our best performance of the season' date=' [/quote'] err, yes. 4-0 against Hibs is as good as beating the champions by their biggest margin of loss in 5 years, right enough

and that we have already won at Tynecastle this year
against an unsettled team, managed by that twat Rix and his 4-5-1 embarrasingly defensive formation, reliant on a late own goal
. If we get a result towmorrow night, it will make for one hell of a final weekend of games! Hopefully Hearts will stay true to the 'bridesmaids' tag.
Yep. 'cos even if I wasn't a Hearts fan, I'd say the best thing that could possibly happen for Scottish football would be for the Old Firm 1st and 2nd place thing to remain ad nauseum. Would be terrible if the league was in any way interesting...
  5. Black Bo's

Black Bo's is an excellent wee boozer. However, my favourite pubs in Edinburgh are Cloisters (best atmosphere of any pub in any city anywhere) and The Jolly Judge (right next to the castle, but down an alleyway, so not touristy at all).

  6. I really don't understand how it's Graham 'sex offender' Rix's fault that you haven't wrapped up that second place spot yet.

Pretty simple. We dropped 50% of the points that were available when he was in charge. We were much better when Burley was in charge, and have looked much better under Ivanauskas. Rix was truly shite.

  7. My 2005/2006 Hearts season highlights (so far!):

    - 11 wins and no losses in the first 12 games.

    - Sticking 4 goals past Hibs on 3 separate occasions.

    - Sitting in the pub in Frankfurt watching us beat Rangers, which was apparently "the big test".

    - 5-0 win against Falkirk on Boxing Day. One of the most one-sided games of football I've ever seen.

    - Seeing genuinely class players like Jankauskas and Fyssas in Hearts shirts.

    - Rudi Skacel's performances up until the turn of the year.

    - Beating Hibs in what was probably the biggest Edinburgh derby ever.

    - The first half of the New Years Day game against Celtic. Probably the best controlling display we've ever had against the Old Firm.

    2005/2006 shockers

    - The second half of the New Years Day game against Celtic. Probably the most inept managerial display we've ever had against the Old Firm.

    - George Burley's sacking.

    - Graham Rix's hiring.

    - Two defeats to Hibs.

    - Not having the Champions League place wrapped up by now (thanks again Mr Rix).

    2006/2007 Aims

    - Get in a decent manager and - *shock* - keep him.

    - Be in the draw for the Champions League Qualifiers.

    - To play some genuinely world class teams in Europe (either in the Champs League or on a decent UEFA Cup run - if Middlesborough can do it...).

    - To keep the best of the squad together and have a real go at winning the league (you never know!!!).

    - At least 2nd place (although no Champs League for that next season).

  8. i was going to join this arguement because i know people will take my views the wrong way and call me some kind of nazi or whatever but what the heck

i would vote b.n.p as i belive this country going to turn in to the next yugoslavia' date=' i dont want that to happen.

and i am leaving it at that[/quote']

Heh heh! Genius! Next Yugoslavia! Brilliant.

And Cloud - if your main objection to the BNP is the fact they have "British" in their name, there's something very wrong with you.

  9. All very well said. Thing is' date=' the police are the last people who should be making jokes about suicide bombers when they are the ones who also have to inform the families of the dead. It's surely that simple.[/quote']

Actually, that was the point I was going to make but forgot. I was wrong when I said that the joke wasn't offensive. It certainly *shouldn't* be offensive to Muslims - it is in no way disparaging them or their religion - but it certainly could be construed as offensive by the friends and families of people who have been killed by the suicide bombers. Maybe they should get quotes from The Good Honest Innocent People Who've Been Killed in Terrorist Attrocities Council of Britain.

  10. As opposed to Neo-Labour' date=' a mainstream party led by a self-absorbed bawbag who has a worrying (and deeply illegal) tendency to find himself sanctioning unjustified murder in an already fucked-up country when he should be sorting out the country he's in charge of running. Or doing his job as it's known. Doesn't reflect very well on his party.

So, who's the guiltier of the two? George Galloway went on a TV show, whoopty-doo.[/quote']

As someone who hasn't voted Labour since 1997 (and would be hard pushed to ever again), I'm not going to take any offence at that whatsoever. I personally agree with most of your argument, just not the conclussion you come to.

Regardless, it's very difficult to represent your constituents when you're living in a news vacuum with (supposedly) no contact with the outer world, potentially for several weeks. Rather makes a mockery of a party with supposedly serious manifestos and ambitions, the people that have voted for - and rightly expect representation from - them and the whole democratic system does it not?

  11. Well' date=' considering anyone who wears the hijab in the UK nowadays seems to be seen as a legitimate target for being on the receiving end of the rampant Islamophobia which has swept the nation in the last 4 years or so, I'd say it causes them a fair bit of concern.[/quote']

Well not really. The only way it has anything whatsoever to do with the Muslim Council of Britain is if they claim to represent the Al-Qaeda organisation that was the butt of the joke. If not, it's exactly the same as the pope getting worked up about a joke about the IRA.

  12. There is an alternative in England' date=' a party called Respect.[/quote']

Yes. Unfortunately it's an alternative party led by a self-absorbed bawbag, who has a worrying (and deeply unproffessional) tendency to find himself "incarcerated" in a mocked up house when he should be debating in parliament. Or doing his job as it's known. Doesn't reflect very well on his party.

Also, I doubt very much people that are considering voting BNP for the reasons listed above are going to find much to satisfy them in a Respect manifesto.

Have to say that, living down in the South East of England, the BNP are worryingly the most visibly campaigning party.

  13. Racism is hilarious...

Err, except it's not racist. Unless Al-Qaeda are a race. Read the article again, at no point does the joke mention any race. Unless of course you're automatically connecting Al-Qaeda with Islam as a whole - which I believe makes you the racist.

I'd hate to see the outcry from members of Al-Qaeda when they find out about this. They'll probably write strongly worded letters to the newspapers or something.

Whilst it wasn't the brightest thing anyone's ever said, I don't actually see anything wrong with it at all. And frankly, what the fuck it's got to do with The Muslim Council of Britain really escapes me.

  14. The amazing 3 level club "famed for beatings and stabbings" I spent my stag do in. Was fuckin awesome' date=' has a swimming pool, pizzaria, arcade games, drum n bass and Rammstein on one level, poptastic stuff on a packed dancefloor on another.

I have no idea what its called. Or how to get there. Good though...

Other than that, booze is cheap. Have fun.[/quote']

It's called Zold Pardo and costs a whopping 30p to get in. And it's brilliant.

And here's Medichi in the pool:

Note fetching Amsterdam cap, bought earlier in the day in Budapest. Possibly the finest Hungarian souvenir ever.

  15. Going to Frankfurt for a week in June for the World Cup

I'm sure it'll be *a lot* better during the World Cup, but the nightlife in Frankfurt is shite. It's a surprisingly nice place though. Was expecting it to be a modern skyscraper nightmare, but it's actually quite attractive.

My next trips are going to be (in no particular order, and not necessarily this year):-

    Kracow

    Reykjavik

    Vancouver

Being based down in London makes flights so much cheaper. Well, something had to be.
