Ok, but that's a fine line you choose to walk! The difference between them and how they are interpreted is largely down to body language and expression, things that are not seen in the written form!

Ambition and all those positive traits are good to have, but they won't get people along to gigs or force them into having a good impression of you or your band. The best acts choose not to push those traits for this very reason! Sell the music, not your personal character traits ;)

No! It's not like it was a problem when you were all in your separate bands now, was it?!

My perception is that people are ready to take a pop over your individual changes in character since forming the band, and your collective attitude and method of self promotion. Nothing more! Just in the same way that Kris has been beleagured of late... It's not that people suddenly think more or less of AW, it's that they dislike his approach to them.

Like I say, keep putting in the effort and the shows, advertise but don't saturate and irritate, and people will change their views on you all. Bands get far by being exceptional at what they do, playing but not overplaying, and letting the music talk for itself. Liber8 did exactly that, and it's only because Kris has chosen to be so vocal and seemingly controversial of late that they've attracted such negative views. Maybe he means it all in jest as you guys claim to, but that excuse doesn't stop people from being annoyed and changing how they see you.

    Rocket science, it isn't!

  3. See, this is what puzzles me about the MMW collective.

A few people object to the way you present your band, and you jump on them and basically tell them not to take it seriously, or that you'll do whatever the hell you want. Seems to go against the whole "customer is always right" ethos to me...

I know most of you personally well enough, hence to me it's no real biggie, but that's not to say it doesn't still irritate me a little. Whether in jest or not, it still sounds like unnecessary self-importance, and that's not a good way to promote your band or yourselves. If you believe in what you're doing and do it well, the performance will say all you ever could, and the audience will do the trumpeteering for you!

Bottom line is, if it annoys the very people you'd like to persuade to come and see you perform, then it's negative promotion. No matter what the original intention! You can't dictate to people how they *should* perceive what you write, you just have to accept how they might interpret it and work around that. Intregue and good reviews entice people to be more open minded and attend new shows, not tongue-in-cheek hype and bluster or backlash.

Just my twa cents, ok? Take it or leave it :)

Ach well Rob...at least you think im a nice guy...i hope!!

Yeah, I have no bones to rattle with you.

You do come across on these forums as somewhat "FULL ON, MAN!", though. Be a bit calmer, take things with a truckload of salt, no problemo. Anyone who's opinion is worth caring about knows that the empty can rattles the most, so it's unnessecary to rebuke people who seem to be on a mission to bring you down. You don't need to try and make them look stupid, most of them manage that all by themselves.

  5. If we could provide a totally uniform, un-breakable method of moderating the forums, we'd have delegated the task to a computer by now.

The bottom line with all this "moderation" stuff is that a group of us do our best to be sensible, fair and quick to react. However, there will always be people who don't think that's good enough or believe that they can do better.

I still have the feeling that most of those complainants are merely attempting to "stir the pot", and that those who request to become moderators are mostly in it for some perceived "power trip" they might then have over the common visitors. I still struggle to see how you can attach any kind of importance over the ability to move or delete comments made on an internet discussion site...

For the most part, this moderation thing rests around being a fucking internet housemaid/nanny; Either moving threads because people are too lazy or beligerent to post in the correct forum, or closing down petty-assed squabbles between people who are too scared to say what they think directly to the face of their adversary. Glamerous and desirable stuff, huh?!

For the record, Neil ASKED me to moderate some forums many moons ago, when the AUBL forums moved to aberdeen-music.com and I had been posting in them previously. I like to think that it's just another way I can support local music and help it grow in a good way, much like with my voluntery involvement with creating and helping maintain Dr Drakes. I do this stuff for free and with my own free time, because I love playing in local bands and I appreciate what other people like the Dr Drakes staff do to support local bands. Why are YOU involved in this website...?

  7. 1) Being genuinely speechless that we won the award. I figured those sex pests Sidca were more "in" with the local scenesters than us!

    2) Noticing that Chris ex-Dos-Dedos looked just like he had the night before. In fact, I was convinced he never left Moshulu or stopped drinking. I actually don't think I've ever met him when he's been sober.

    3) Being resplendant in a suit that cost 5 from a charity shop and make-up that took a mere 2 and 1 minute to purchase and apply. Total dressing time of ~3 minutes, which I figured was a fraction of that spent by most (except Joe Atom).

    4) Having Big Bad comment on the shameless self-promotion on the back of my suit jacket, and then noticing that those Eric Euan bastards had copied my idea. Mine looked cheaper, more hastily applied, therefore I win :)

    5) Applying my make-up techniques to anyone willing. Inducting Dan My/Loaded/Atom (see what I did there?!) as an honourary monster and watching the poor fellow panic as the blood drenched/stung his eyeballs. Bloody amateurs!

    6) Finally having my belief that Jonny A-Switch-Radio was a raging Queen proved beyond all doubt.

    7) Being vocal and somewhat animated when My Decaying Leg were denied their rightful "Most Missed" award.

    8) Wondering how Marcus ex-Dos-Dedos managed to steal a suit either from John Travola, or from Nicky Ca$ino when he was in his youthful experimental stage.

    9) Whooping when Dr Drakes won an award for the second consecutive time, thanks to their friendly and helpful approach with new and old bands alike, and the continuing huge efforts of band rustler Sharon.

    10) Realising that Bri Fudge really is as inept as he seems, when he couldn't even operate a dictaphone. Fudge onwards, boys, fudge onwards....!

well done though Rob. i'm sure your gonna love it regardless. i'm just picky when it comes to 800's. i'd have to get an original pre 86 one

As I understand it, only a very few of the first serie of JCM800 were made without PCB. Certainly, every 2203/2204 used PCB construction (still largely hand wired tho), and even though the later 800s used PCB they still used the exact same circuitry as the earlier models. When they changed to the master volume series, they changed a few things and introduced the 2203/2204 sub-classes. When I crank my 2203 (a painful, but not unpleasent, act) I get an AC/DC sound without distorto-pedal, and anything to Slayer with it. Sounds pretty "valve" to me ;)

I'm also told, that as long as you go for an original run 2203/2204 (not the current re-issues) and don't go for the dual-channel variant, you'll get the best of the Marshall pre-amp gain developments with none of the tone/reliability problems of the later and dual-channel variants.

Mine sounds killer already, even on the current unbranded valves. I will re-valve with JJ/TESLA valves I think, based on current prices/reviews/etc.

Marshall also tell me that output transformer #3 has decided to die in my DSL50, along with a couple of valves also on their way out. I've told them to fix it and test it as much as they can before sending it back. Either there is some inherent problem with it's innerds that is causing it to slowly chew through OTs, or Marshall need to use beefier units. If it goes again at any point, I will source a suitable aftermarket transformer and valves. But, I may decide to use the 2203 as my primary amp anyway.

    Uhhh, yes :)

You've never taken it off and looked inside?!

EMG do an entire pickup kit for Strats, a la Quirk Hammett, where you get two single coil actives (neck and middle) and an EMG-81 humbucker in the bridge. It all comes with a replacement scratchplate with the holes for the pickups, and you get all the tone/volumes and switches pre-wired with EMG's quick-connect system, meaning no soldering needed (other than to remove the original stuff). If you get bored of it (!) or decide to return your Strat to stock, you just have to unplug the EMG parts and solder in the old pickups again with the original scratchplate.

    Spanky!
