  1. Karloff won 'Best Extreme Act' but nobody was there to collect it' date=' so they called for the band in second place (I think Filthpact), but none of them were around either. They couldn't remember who was in third place. So in the end the award for most extreme act went to Bobby. But technically you won it.[/quote']

Haha, oh well! I'm on the T-47 rig in Kazakhstan surrounded by ice and very chilly conditions, Ghoulmore is hamming it up in Vegas on his hols, The Mant is firmly esconsed in Portsmouth with his girl-zombie, Sid may have been working Captain Toms while Tom obviously propped up the Lemon Tree bar or was too skint/un-interested to go, and fuck knows where The Stab was hiding. Seeing him and the Boaby are usually inseperable I thought he might actually go. Bobby is pretty extreme tho, I've seen him doing the conga around Captain Tom's at an Arkade gig with three other gents, all with their tops off and trousers/underwear around their ankles. That's pretty extreme. Almost as extreme as being so drunk that when suggested he should give himself a dirty sanchez he actually tried to. Do you like the Boaby....?

Cheers to all who voted for us zombie rockstars! We hope you all come along to ours and Hot Mangu's album launch night at the Lemon Tree on April 1st. Our new CD sounded totally badass after recording was done, can't wait to hear the mixed and mastered version when I get home at the end of the week. Thanks to Fudge for being so reliably useless but still being able to be thoroughly competent gig chappies. Also congrats to Flash and Laura and all at the Moorings for finally securing Best Venue.

Hang on... Doesn't that Brian fellow work there now sometimes?!

    IT'S A FIX!!!

    :up::love:

  2. Hideous stuff.

Why does Brian look like he's wearing eyeliner and Craig has stuck something somewhere unexpected?!

Ah, poor wee Jamesy. I wonder if he topped last years speech.

Shame I missed this years shenanigans, but on the upside for me it's now only -7C here in Kazakhstan. It almost feels warm! Anyone going to post a list of the winners then?

  3. I think we are experiencing a serious case of dejavu here LMAO...

Everyone that has met both of you is laughing at how unnecessary this 'feud' is. And as much as we are enjoying the entertainment it is only fair to point out that the situation is ludicrous.

But I'm enjoying the entertainment too!

PS : I think you may have a ghost who resembles me haunting the Moorings, as Jonny reckons I was whinging to someone about his Fudge interview in the Moorings the other night. Unless I was sleepwalking, I haven't been in the bad in over a month! Or are you putting something in the beers down there these days? :p

  4. a new feature for the fanzine! it could replace rock tests... cock tests!

Haha! No cumbacks allowed?!?! That would be an unfair contest though Biz' date=' he's obviously got all the experience and practise. :p

Seriously though, a "Local Z-List Celebrity Grudge Match" could be a good money-spinner/attraction/laugh for the Fudge Awards. Kinda like your bucking bronco attraction, but better. I'm game if the queen of rock and roll is!

I started typing a reply to the above, but I got part way through and couldn't be arsed. I mean, seriously, who sticks their tongue out at someone while hurrying past at 3am in a nightclub?! I was so inebriated at the time it took my brain about 5 seconds to decide that yes, that did just happen. One of the most surreal things I've ever witnessed! Plus, I wonder about a guy who worked in the RGU Press Office and can't correctly write the word [i']monosyllabic, especially when he's attempting to belittle me by suggesting I'm somehow likely to lack communication skills. But, there are more than a few erroneous statements in his post anyway. More than I can be bothered correcting.

But hey, its all good for a laugh! His reply made me chortle anyway. And he tries to say I take myself too seriously... Far from it.

  5. Ash showed me this issue when I got back from the middle-east the other day...

Jonny Talentless is a very deluded individual.

If Karloff were anywhere close to being a Misfits tribute act, you can bet Jerry Only would not have had us play with the Misfits at all, let alone twice. I don't even have to think about the number of gigs Karloff have done since inception to know that a) They outnumber Radio Lucifer and PAGG gigs put together, and b) The number of them outwith Aberdeen also outnumbers that of those bands. I also don't recall either band playing Dingwalls in Camden or the Camden Underworld. Shock horror, we even went down well at those venues, not bad for a tribute act!! Funny that we also top the Fat Hippy Records sales charts consistently too... So to say his band are the only local act to have done anything is somewhat incorrect. I'd also be kinda annoyed if I was in any of Aberdeen's other hardworking acts that manage to play outwith the city. He really paints a good impression of your efforts, folks.

Finally, which band packed out the East Neuk and had its fans go crazy through their set, and which band am I told resorted to heckling it's audience in the same venue because they seemed dis-interested in their performance? Oh dear.

Karloff will keep on motoring along. We have a keen new drummer, the first full-length album from a Fat Hippy act to record and release, and a mega lauch party in the Lemon Tree on April 1st 2006 to think about. Do come along Jonny, your rock and roll prescence and fame is sure to improve the party.

  6. Karloff... Great band sadly let down by BLOODY AWFUL recording' date=' but they are a live experience.[/quote']

This track was recorded on about the 8th take, pretty much live. We did the drums, bass and my guitar together. This was partly because of studio time constraints and partly because of time constraints of our old drummer Uncle Pesto who travelled up from East Kilbride. We now have local leg-end "The Stab" installed on a spike behind the kick drum, and are gearing up to do several months of work on our new album coming out April 1st 2006. Expect this to be the most professional Fat Hippy release yet!

  7. Any chance of a copy of the CD' date=' Rob?[/quote']

Yeah, it starts at about Nightstomper, but is reasonable enough. The mix is fair, my guitar is quite low but that likely means I was true to form in having it pretty loud on-stage, plus any good sound engineer will keep the lead shredder higher in the mix. Ant's bass is nae bad and the backing vox aren't too WOOAAAHH when they come in.

  8. All I was worried about in terms of the vocals was the lack of the trademark Ghoulmore echo (or is it reverb?) that I reckon completes the Karloff sound.

Hmm, we did me around a fair bit in souncheck getting it set up. It doesn't appear on the CD recording that Lisa kindly did for me, but I don't know where in the sound chain the CD was patched really. We also found it tricky in Edinburgh to get the echo right, in the end patching in Ash's wee Zoom FX unit he has pre-set in case of emergency. I think we'll maybe just insist on using this in future as it's exactly how he needs it to be, and all the sound dude/ette has to do is adjust the amount of effect.

  9. I would have said' date=' for me, that the best band of the night were Develish Presley, far better than Karloff who musically were good but vocally not so strong (first time seeing them in a long time). Zombina were OK but I kept thinking of the Chipmuinks when she sang,[/quote']

Did you go to the same gig as everyone else? Everyone I've spoken to thus far has said exactly the same, that Zombina were on fire, they didn't like Devilish, and we came somewhere in the middle. Something I'd fully agree with! Did you not notice all the bum notes and stuff in the Devilish set? Both on bass and guitar?!

  10. I feel slightly cheated by whoever it was who decided to make Cramps comparisons in the promotion for the gig.

Yeah... I could think of a bunch of comparisons before ever even thinking about the Cramps. I think that maybe came from blurb on other websites, I don't think any of us had ever heard them before they actually played.

  11. For all the people involved with the Transition Extreme Sports project, I'm glad to read here that the plans for an extreme centre down the beach are being received very positively. I'd also point out that the facilities are not as specific as some people seem to have the impression they are, there are facilities for skaters, bladers, BMXers, rock-climbers, abseilers... This is not just for the skating community! The plans also include a number of retail outlets to cater for various extreme sports needs, and other related facilities. I believe it is also intended that the centre will accomodate those participating in activities on the beach itself, such as the surfers, windsurfers and para-sailers.

The only thing that surprises me is that so many are voicing their full support for the project, yet they decided not to attend the fundraising gig at the Lemon Tree a few months back. The support on the night largely came down to the regular fans of the bands involved, and several people I can think of who are into just the kind of sports this centre aims to support did not attend, and in some cases rathered spend their evening in another venue. I seem to remember someone basically saying to me that they didn't attend the fundraiser because they didn't like the bands on the bill. Now, to me that seems to be highly short-sighted and very churlish... Personally I'd go to a Simply Red concert if I knew my attendance and ticket money would go to such a project!

Please visit the Transition Extreme Sports website and lend both your voices and money to ensure the centres success!

  12. I only became an audiophile after visiting a friends house. He had a decent setup and had just spend a ludicrous sum on speaker cable. He's a joiner BTW. Anyhow he was going on about this and I said "But surely it doesn't sound all that different." Thinking that my crap Sony MIDI HiFI CD player would probably sound better than some scratchy old vinyl. So he put on a record and I almost fell off my chair in amazement!

That wouldn't be Callum McKenzie now would it...? He's the only joiner I know that has a Linn Sondek turntable!

  13. Also' date=' if yor music is saved in i-tunes, can yous till transfer it to a Sony? Someone said that they'll only wrk on Apple things, and I-Pods are ugly.[/quote']

The only way you can transfer to a Net sony product is via a USB cable and their SonicStage software, which is their iTunes type product. You can load in MP3/WAV/WMA/etc files into its library though, so it shouldn't be hard to load in your iTunes files if they're correctly ID3 tagged.
