  1. I knew it... I thought to myself, "I wonder if there's any pure mental theories being put forward by the creationists about this LHC thingmy?"

Guess what? It's actually a stargate being used to allow satan's return... obviously.

    SATANS STARGATE

This guy is deadly serious, scary.... o_O

Keep watching for some truly inspired reasoning and mad captioning skills. Also, check out his other videos for more theories including: the Nazis were in fact aliens from the planet Nibiru; JFK was murdered by the freemasons; and my favourite, Einstein was an idiot.

  2. Cheers!

yeah, we're well happy with the way the bass turned out. It ended up being run through the ampeg (awesome) and a smaller combo which had the distorted signal coming through it, I'm pretty certain it was just Fish's boss distortion pedal. We DI'd both and stuck a mic in the room too which meant we ended up with 3 tracks to play with at the mix stage. It was great to be able to mix the distortion up or down at the end when we could hear it against the entire track. There's also a tasty bit of Bass Synth done as an overdub in the section just before the last chorus (after the solos). On its own it sounds pretty weird but I really like it in the mix, it moves the progression along nicely.

As for those guitar noises, to be honest they were a pain in the arse to try and get rid of. When we did the rhythm takes we didn't have the Noise suppressor... my fault. Rather than gate it on the desk which always sounds a little harsh and forced we figured we'd just try and clean it up afterwards. Turns out its not quite as easy as that though, we couldn't get a natural decay on the guitars when we took out those noises so they just had to stay. I know it would have been possible but we were all just finding our feet with logic and its not the most beginner-friendly piece of software, we were also up against the clock.

Thanks for having a listen :D

  3. "Necropolis" is the new single from Hot Mangu, out on June 2nd. It's been put up for a limited time pre-release on the Fat Hippy Records myspace:

    FAT HIPPY RECORDS

Have a listen and let us know what you think, or just listen :)

    Any feedback is appreciated.

The launch gig is May 30th at Drummonds so if you like the song then come along and get a free copy on the door.

    Cheers!

  4. Well, to be fair, we recorded a song and thought the guitar sounded gash, so we went and played about with the settings (engineer included) and then in the studio it sounded pretty fucking beefy. Once we got it home that beef seemed to have gone off - probably should have wrapped it in tin-foil and put it in the fridge. So what happened in between I don't actually know.

Ach well, "My baby all gone..." still makes me chuckle quietly inside at least. Heh.

Was the playing with settings done after the recording or did you record again? i.e. did you do the best you could by tweaking eq etc?

In that case its ALWAYS best to go back to source, the guitar has to sound close to what you want the end product to sound like. In my experience, trying to tinker with eq and compression etc at the end is pretty pointless (and can be absolutely infuriating) unless the source is nice and meaty.

Just a thought, did you try different mic placements and configurations? Try this thread on the Andy Sneap forum for HEAPS of advice on recording metal guitars: Recording Metal Guitars

A lot of the time the phase or placement of the mics can completely change your tone. Its something I've only recently played a round with but by following some of the tips on that forum I've improved my results loads. Especially for combatting that trademark hissy/fizzy crap that plagues metal guitars.

  5. every guitar that gos through captian toms mic sounds shite. i had it when statue recorded there twice and statue dont sound fuzzy live. anyone that says that captian toms are good are lying' date=' [/quote']

What an absolute crock of shite. You put a crappy sound in then you get a crappy sound out, simple as that. Why do the guitars on the MMW sampler track sound really good? Because they spent time making sure that the tone was perfect before micing up and they knew what they wanted.

Too many bands go into a studio with no idea of how they want their guitars to sound, they say "Oh this sounds really good at home in my bedroom so it'll RAWK!!11" but its actually all scooped to buggery and weedy sounding and so when the engineer mics up their amp it sounds ding. Is this the engineers fault?

If you are going in on the cheap (which many bands do and get perfectly good results) then make sure you make it clear to the engineer at the time that there is a problem as they'll be more than happy to try to sort it for you. Don't wait until other people start telling you it doesn't sound good and then moan about the studio on a message board.

Spend the time in the studio getting the sound you want and get it right when it matters, before its up on an internet message board getting criticism for a terrible guitar sound.

  6. .... it will be on season 4 or something before you know it..

Pretty sure it's already been cancelled. After the writers strike ended the network decided not to pick it up again, I thought they only made 9 eps. I thought it was pretty ropey anyway, the female "good" cyborg is pants and the whole dream sequence at the start made me boak.

[edit] Just checked: they've finished filming the season so I guess it might survive after all... you never know though, it is on Fox! It was definitely up for being dropped along with Journeyman and Bionic Woman after the strike but the ratings in the US have actually been pretty good.

  7. Sounding great guys! really looking forward to playing with you and the mighty Black Atom again!

shoud be a good one, it's our first gig in ages and the only one we have lined up so we're really looking forward to it.

    See you then guys!!!

  8. Due to buying a new amp it is with heavy heart that I have to sell this pedal. It's the best overdrive/distortion pedal I've ever used and it'll make somebody very happy.

Its basically two pedals in one, a beautiful TS808 replica overdrive in the left channel and a monstrous distortion in the right. Both can be used simultaneously for a huge sound or a boost for solos etc.

They are seriously hard to get hold of over here, this one came from the US.

Its absolutely as good as new, pm me if you're interested.

Sorry dude, these are being sold to pay for something else and so the price (already bloody reasonable ;)) is non-negotiable.
