  1. Congratulations to GypsyRoots who triumphed in this year’s Eruption Final.

A massive thanks to all the bands that took part over the course of the past 9 months, demonstrating that the ‘deen has a vibrant and diverse grassroots music scene. You’ve been amazing!

We at Krakatoa would especially like to thank Captain Toms, Kenny's Music, and the Evening Express for sponsoring Eruption again, helping make the contest a reality.

Let’s do it all again this year!

  2. WHAT?
The Fudge Music Awards: an irreverent local awards ceremony for bands from Aberdeen - like a shit Oscars crossed with the drunkest gig you've ever been to... better hit the sambuca - hard.

    WHO?
Prog metal titans Orynthia headline, with double-bass punk-rockers The Numbskulls warming up for festival dates, and acoustic punk types Green Beers set to open the show.
In between the bands, Bri Fudge hosts a shambolic and unrehearsed awards ceremony, with comedian Vincent Frazer-Price briefly interviewing the winning bands onstage as they collect their trophies. They will both do their best to be heard above all the cat-calling and heckling.
You can also expect a podium made of cardboard boxes and tinfoil.

    WHERE?
Krakatoa, Saturday 10th March 2018, first band onstage 7pm to fit everything in. Five quid on the door - or four if you have student ID.
Here's the Facebook event, come along for a great night out!

    WEAR?
Get dressed up, you tramps. This is an awards ceremony!

    HOW?
You can vote here on Aberdeen-Music, in person at Fudge events, and on a poll we'll throw up on Facebook at some point soon. These votes will be combined to find our worthy champion.

  9. Here follows a short interview with FaR, winners of last years ERUPTION Battle-Of-The-Bands competition at Krakatoa, ahead of this year's GRAND FINAL on Friday night.

What were your expectations going into the Eruption heats in summer 2016?

"There weren't really any expectations, other than the opportunity to perform, and gaining some extra motivation for us to push our live performance. Competitions weren't something we were actively seeking, but at the time we were looking to pick up some gigs. We always enjoyed playing at Krakatoa in the past, so we were just happy to be playing there again."

How was the night of the Grand Final?

"The night of the final was intense. All the bands were on point. As the night went on, it felt like there was no room for error to stand any chance. No pressure! But there was an electric energy from the crowd, and it was lovely to have such a good turn out and support for all the bands playing. Everyone was a great sport about it too, so it all really became about just having a great night and enjoying the gig."

What did you do with the £2500 cash prize?

"We spent a portion on equiptment that we needed, and merch, but we still have a lot of it saved towards some upcoming studio time."

And what's the band been up to in the last year?

"The band has since played a few festivals around Scotland - including sharing a main stage next to Primal Scream. We were keeping busy last year with gigs, but we've been taking time out recently to develop and work towards studio recording."

    So there you have it!

This years Grand Final takes place on Friday night at Krakatoa, from 7pm. The four finalists are GypsyRoots, Casper Heyzeus, Killer Clyde and Deadloss Superstar.
