  1. The final release is the Note To Self track. Bit of an anti-climax like! It's worth the 1.08 or however much it costs though. A DVD of a gig would've been awesome, perhaps someone will record the last one and make it downloadable or something. I got a VCD of Lightyear's last gig from some guy, it's pretty sweet.

I forked out for the Skylar & Loss In Sound CDs in July, they're both pretty good. Skylar's the stuff that puts a big grin on your face. I think Jon's still in the band 'cause Matt said most of the Skylar members were on stage... not Lloyd. Who knows?

  2. I knew it - i always ha a hunch that stevie and jon weren't happy. I mean stevie must be upset to be not involved in skylar - and jon didn't seem fussed to carry on as nick and matt were. I didn't realise that the tour was only nick and matt from the current line-up.

I reckon beat heart beat is the best they've ever done.......so even if they re-name themselves' date=' with matt's song writing and stuff......all is not lost. I jst hope whatever the new band is that they continue to play howards alias material. woop.

    gutted i missed it.

edit - pete is the bassist in skylar, nd i think lloyd stood in after jevon left and before jon joined...[/quote']

Aye, I think you're right there. I had no idea about the tour line-up until seeing them soundchecking on Sunday :S They're doing a fine job though. Lloyd was tight like a ducks bum. They played These Lights of their Skylar fame on Sunday as an encore. Twas beautiful. Everyone singing along to "take me forever or never again" So yeah, if the continue where they've stopped, I'll be a happy chappy. You'll have to get Note To Self downloaded when you get home. Didn't make it on to Beat Heart, Beat but it's awesome. Not quite a DVD for a final release. Hope you're enjoying your holiday.

Ryan, I think you'll be sending me those pics! A girl from uni got a good few last night and a few of mine turned out alright. I get them resized and sent soon.

  3. Pretty darn good it was. I only managed to catch Stayover and HA, was in late at uni and very un-fresh after Edinburgh... Anyways, Stayover have played a lot better but it was mega busy for them playing, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. As for Howards Alias - right on. Not quite as good as Sunday; quite a few people left, not as many fans, etc etc. They played pretty much the same but shorter set due to stand-in bassist and drummer not knowing too much :p There was Chasing Amy, Rabbit In Headlights, Wrong Note, W.O.R.L.D, Love Loss Learn, The Drive, Rob Wants You Dead, Maggie And Me Pt 1, Song For A Friend and ...If It Wasn't Screwed On. Shame you weren't there but plenty of people had their dancing shoes on. I spoke to Matt and Nick for a bit, totally gutted to see them split up. A little birdie tells us that the current line-up with the stand-ins Lloyd and Pete, will be continuing in the vein of Beat Heart, Beat, magic! Matt also said some more Skylar material will be going down :)

  4. Are you coming to the gig reject_monkey? The band have maybe improved, worth a check out I reckon.

I'd recomment Howards Alias to any ska/ punk/ prog/ whatever fan. Anyone who enjoys a good live show, HA does the job affa nicely.

I am so looking forward to this now. I'm far more excited about Edinburgh though. Shopping + Misled Youth + Howards Alias + drink = :gringo:

  5. What an inspiration the man is, to everyone. I thought it was an excellent program, so many people would benefit from watching it and perhaps think twice before moaning about insignificant things in life. It's definitely not something people watch for entertainment. A total eye-opener, makes you appreciate everything that wee bit more.

Declaring he could see down Nell's top and signalling "1-0" to the camerman after the kiss was right funny. I was bubbling for the last 15 minutes of it.

  6. I thought the new SB6 stuff is awesome-o. The hip-hop song was mint. If you wanted proper real ska souldboy, maybe you should've checked out the bands first and not been so disappointed.

Barney, I shall send you those links from my computer at home with a couple from yesterday too. I'm about to get chucked out of this computer room. Bloody stinky students have a scheduled class.

  7. Awesome gig, big thanks and well done to GFN and all the bands. I was disappointed Schpleen didn't make it but at least Misled Youth managed. Better late than never, eh? The Upstarts did a mighty fine job of starting things off. The newest tunes are top-knotch. One Man Race = great fun. Last time I saw them, I had little memory of the night. So this was a nice surprise. Really tight, great party music. Misled Youth, ah what can I say? Great as always. New stuff is going in a sweet direction. They still need to get that little detail of turning up on time nailed on the head though :p And as for Sonic Boom Six. Just wow. Fine set and the atmosphere when they were on was magic. Roll on the album.

  8. Claire a.k.a. therandomblonde is watching them in Glasgow as I type. Apparently they cover American Idiot these days, hmmm. I've never been a big fan but yes, they have the catchy writing skills nailed on the head. I watched a Popworld special on them when bored on holiday and they do seem like genuinely nice boys.

  9. I went on radio 1's sunday surgery UK tour and made a series of ridiculous comments about topics including birds in glasgow who don't wear enough clothes' date=' internet pornography vs. Big Brother and parents responsibility in the way the media portray sex.

I then went on to abuse the free bar and have some quality banter with the presenters, crew and both shellsuit bob from river city and becca from hollyoaks.

    /x[/quote']

Aaaaah, I totally heard that! I wondered what the Glasgow goodness was all about.

  10. Actually the Union has closed down...

F***ing disgrace. The corrupt management of Aberdeen Uni strikes again.

    What what what?

I had a pretty good fresher's week part 2. Couldn't be bothered with the student masses so just stuck to good ol' Moshulu, Exodus and a bit of Slain's. I finally went to the Aberdeen Union on Saturday but wasn't very impressed. Rather boring and nobody seemed to have a smile on their face, pfffft.

Lots of booze, lots of dancing, don't think I met one fresher, can't complain!

  11. Green Day & Jimmy Eat World at MK National Bowl, June - The size of the venue, the warm, sunny weather, the amount of people and the atmosphere was unbeatable. First time seeing JEW and well worth the wait. Even with the wind messing the sound a little, they put on a stormer of a set. The 3 of us dancing away to Pain, The Middle, A Praise Chorus, Just Tonight and Sweetness was magic. Green Day entertained so well. Yes, the set doesn't change much these days, but don't fix what's not broken, huh? The faces of everyone afterwards said it all. The trip down and back, Hard-Fi and Taking Back Sunday weren't so good...

The Matches at Moshulu, September - after missing a massive chunk of their set in Glasgow last April, I wasnae missing any this time round. Perfect opening band, picked their finest and my favourites and played nice and tightly.

Howards Alias, Sonic Boom Six, Grown At Home & Onion Terror at The Moorings, July - after an afternoon of football and wine, that bar was rocked hard and fast. The OT did their usual entertaining, Grown At Home produced the most energy I've ever seen, Sonic Boom Six got me to sing with them (probably not such a good thing, actually) and Howards Alias being Howards Alias was all smashing.

Feeder at The Glasgow Carling Academy, March & at Crathes Castle, August - these guys are awesome live, the mix of sets, the 2 venues and the aftermaths are high up in my year's highlights so far.

The Fudge Awards sets, Dirtbox at The Moorings and in Brechin, Adequate Seven and the 44s at Moshulu also deserve a big mention. Pretty damn good year so far :D
