  1. http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/other-clubs-venues/40271-bouncers-exodus.html

People have complained about the Exodus bouncers before...

Yup. And ever since I joined this site however many years ago that was, people have been bitching about Moshulu. Although whenever I've had stress from Exo bouncers it's been to do with them being generally rude and making nasty comments to people on the way in, rather than how they deal with the punters if someone kicks up shit.

I know that moaning about the various clubs in Aberdeen is inevitable, but if you don't like going somewhere then don't go. It really is that simple. Some of my friends who used to go to Moshulu all the time have stopped, now preferring to go to Espionage and Pearl Lounge (though i have no idea why), I don't go because I'll hate it. I know, I've tried. I go to Moshulu, The Tunnels, The Moorings and occasionally Snafu because I like the music and I know people who go there. Yes, it can be annoying if the toliets are a bit messy, or if the place isn't immaculate. But I go out on the weekend to socialise, to meet new people or friends and generally have fun, not to critique the facilities.

It's just boring. every few months someone posts a thread complaining about Moshulu and every time the same shit gets said. It's such an easy target. It's like bitching about the same person over and over because you have nothing real to say.

  2. The DJ booth has been in that corner for the last 2 years...

Why doesn't Exodus get posts like this? It's small, full of dickheads and 14 year olds, plays the same 'indie' music pretty much every night, it takes ages to get served, the bouncers are rude and the toilets are pretty rough.

That's why I don't go there. If you don't like Moshulu, don't go. Simple. Then we can all move on with our lives and stop bitching about the place, it's getting really old.

  3. Now i realise I am lining myself up for a lot of stick here, but aren't we taking things to far over a bloody hat?

Right here's the scoop, I used to until recently work the door at Moshulu, and in many clubs for many years before. We don't make the rules, we try and enforce them, I agree some stewards can be twats, but on the whole we are decent guys doin a crappy job for a living, we are all stereotyped as thugs, when its not the case. There's nothing more annoying than having a drunk pompus twat deliberatly winding you up to prove to others that he thinks your a twat, or even worse trying to prove that he's "hard". I agree sometimes door staff can seem over the top, but it's normally after hours of having to ask the same person not to do something over and over, and from experience i can say that it gets bloody annoying.

As for the hat issue, most clubs don't like them, some managers and door staff will enforce it, some won't. It's simple, if your gonna wear a hat be prepared to be asked to take it off. If you wear it and are askes to take it off, either take it off or leave. At the end of the day the licencing law says that while your in a club you obide by the managers rules, if you don't like the rules go somewhere else. If you go to someone's house you would respect there wishes or be asked to leave, a club is exactly the same. No one has the "right" to anything in someone elses club.

Exactly what I think. And it goes for barstaff too. It's a shitty job no matter where you work and the bottom line is that you have to be sober while serving drunk people, and it's horrible.

The whole thing with the Green Death...why didn't you want to pay for it? If you had to go into the back bar to get the other 2 what difference does it make? You're still paying the same amount. It's deliberately antagonising someone for the sake of it rather than having any actual problem. Maybe she was a bit surly with you, but everyone has off days and I've seen the Moshulu (and Bassment) staff put up with a lot of shit from customers.

Why did your mate complain about getting tonic out the gun Bigsy? I'd be more inclined to complain if I wasn't given the choice between bottled and from the mixer gun. I've been to a few places that have both and always give you bottled unless you ask so they can get an extra 50p out of you. Rather sneaky.

  4. Back to the safety blanket of Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy. Good stuff. Although I'm about to start So Long and Thanks For All the Fish which I don't like as much as the previous three. And don't even get me started on Mostly Harmless. I've had it sitting in my house for nearly 4 years and never been able to get past the 3rd chapter.

  5. I was in the "new look" Moshulu on Saturday night and it utterly blew. It is even more dingy and shit than it was before. I've had enough of the place, that's me officially never going back.

o_O When was the last time you were there before the refurb? It's significantly better than it was, smells better, no sticky carpet etc. Jimmy was saying that the lighting is next on the agenda, apparently the whole place needs re-wired so it'll probably be brighter after that.

  6. Yup, Adam & Joe Show series 1 and 3 are free of 4OD. Dunno where series 2 is though and you're got to pay for series 4. There's also a programme called 'Adam & Joe's Formative Years' which looks pretty good too.

  7. Thenew Cafe Nero will be open 7am til 7pm like the existing one, because it's part of a chain it won't be doing the live music etc that Beans did.

Like I say, not a fan of coffee house chains in general, but the coffee is better than Starbucks in my opinion.

I seem to be fully trained in the making of all kinds of hot beverages now. And iced ones. Fuck yeah. 4 years of University education and this is where I end up. Don't study English, kids :p

  8. I can't believe it's taken so long for a film to be made about this, it's like the anti Deep Throat.

Looks awesome in a bad horror movie way, I'm pretty keen on seeing this. Don't imagine it'd be good as a first date movie though :p

  9. i think Kode is still full of scary drugdealers isn't it? I never went to Drum or Kode the folk I've seen falling out of the door or smoking don't make it seem like a place I'd wanna go.

Origin I'd give another go sometime, but like Kef, I'd have to be in the right mood for it.

  10. Duly noted, should be breaking my Weep embargo next week. The place is still open on Wednesday nights, is it?

Umm...it wasn't last time I checked but I did see new flyers last time I was in Bassment for a wednesday clubnight so I think something new is in the pipeline.

  11. I started working in Cafe Nero (yes,I'll be working in the new one...about 50 yards away from the new Starbucks...utter madness) this week and got a huge list of things a good cup of coffee (especially an espresso) should have or be. To be honest, apart from my usual vanilla latte in kilau I don't drink milky coffees that often. It's impossible to make a good espresso or short black coffee at home. You ended up burning the coffee, not having enough pressure or whatever. My espresso machine at home take about 30 mins to make a decent one and I can't be hooped waiting.

So hurrah for my new job and free caffeine :D

  12. Umm...hot chip and lcd sound system are regularly played on saturday nights in moshulu from what i remember. I've only been to the opening night of Origin but it was full of sweaty, half naked pilled up scary men and skanky girls, the bar was packed and it just felt grubby. If you have to get wasted before you go to a bar/club, then it's probably not worth going to so just cut your losses.

I think the thing about moshulu is that it really depends who you go with and who you meet there. I've had two fucking amazing weekends in a row going to moshulu on both friday and saturday nights because the folk i've been with have been first class. I was starting to get fed up with the place, but it's redeemed itself in my eyes recently.

  13. One suggestion for the merch sales: have a cash point or at least have the bar do cash back (or at least have a card machine!). I didn't have the funds with me for merch and would have been handy to have been able to grab a tenner for a CD, especially considering the CDs on sale aren't in the shops yet/were tour only. Even one that charges for withdrawal is better than nothing.
