  1. Boyhood

Quietly epic new film by Richard Linklater.  I say new film, but it's been filmed over 12 years, following the boyhood of Mason (and the actor Ellar Coltrane) from aged around 6 to 18.  I hesitate to say this but it's really a film everyone should try to see, although I don't know that everyone would like it.  Apart from a few minor reservations I thought it was pretty astonishing and the fact that you see individual people grow old in 'real time' adds to the power of every scene.  As with many Linklater films it's sort of 'anti-dramatic' and focuses more on the minutiae of life.  If you need big drama to keep you interested then you might find it drags but my favourite bits were the little incidents that are the sort of things from childhood that it's easy to forgot later but seem like a big deal at the time.  It's also a great document of the recent past, with quite a bit of attention to changes in technology.  Sometimes this makes it seem like the world's longest Apple commercial but it had the strange effect of making me think 2002 was really quite a long time ago rather than just the other day.  You should all check this out.

I completely agree with this. Seeing the characters, culture and as you said technology(even the quality of the images that were shot) age was brilliant and very unique. Ethan Hawke was great in it and his character's development was pretty true to a lot of people his age.

The only downside is that it was slightly long but it needed to be for the film to work.

  2. Philipp Lahm has retired from international football. :( I thought he'd press on and try and win a European Championships, but fair play. Arguably the best modern full back ever.

He is only aged 30?! Surprising stuff but fair play to him. Gives another player a chance I guess. Still looks 16.

  3. He'll be back up for Rooney if we do sign him. Can't see McInnes changing his formation just so he can play Goodwillie. Has anyone mentioned Lee Miller signing for Killie? Will be interesting to see if he can replace the void Boyd will leave. Can see this season be the season Kilmarnock get relegated.

  4. I never watched it, but quite a few people seem to be raging with LVG making the keeper sub. Also people were saying that Tim Krul was very disrespectful to Costa Rica but I don't understand how or why they think that.

I'm really not sure who I want to win this out of the four. I guess I'm going to go for Germany, but I have money on Argentina. It's a shame there are no more underdogs now though.

  5. Aye Jack was fantastic last night, as was Logan for the most part. The young kid that came on really put on a show as well, kinda reminded me of Pawlett in a way. Hopefully we get to see more of him this season.

Scott Wright? Yeh he had a lot of guts in his movement. It's really hard to tell until we play against proper opposition. Jack was amazing. He really has had a storming pre-season from the looks of things.

  6. Is it me or is Alan Shearer getting more punchable as the tournament progresses?

Firstly at half time, Alan Shearer says that England should've qualified for the group at least, despite being against a decent Italy side and a really good Uruguay side.

Then after the Ivory Coast/Greece game, Danny Murphy is talking about how frustrating it is because England could've face Greece in the next round.

    Sorry, what?!

I didn't care too much if England did well or not, but they had a difficult group. They need to stop hitting the panic button everytime they don't do as well as they'd hope.

  7. Looks like Boyd is off back to the huns, disappointed.

I read somewhere that they would have to stump up quite a bit of cash to afford his wages. McInnes has conceded defeated so I'm assuming he knows they can afford him. Don't understand that considering they amount of bad debt they seem to be back in but who knows?

  8. Eh? This was a terrible result for Croatia. Brazil will obviously beat Cameroon and now Mexico definitely just need a point against Croatia to secure qualification.

    I'm ludicrously optimistic.

Cameroon will pull off the unexpected and beat Brazil. Their performances are in decline and they will be at their worse against Cameroon. An Olic hat-trick will see off Mexico after beating Cameroon and win the group. Easily done.
