  1. Dave innes is the best Aberdeen drummer I have seen, he is technically very good and has a good touch, his dynamics could be a little better but his low strokes and high strokes have a good range so he gets let off with the lack of dynamic control. He doesnt wear ear protection tho and thus will be feeling the effect of years of noise abuse, and in my book this puts him at the top of the stupid drummer poll too.
  2. Good information mark, here is a little few addons to what mark posted and things to remember when tuning drums... Always put the head into the hoop first and never straight onto the shell,, if the hoop is out of round or buckled in anyway then this is where you will notice it and if its an older kit you have then there is a good chance that it's not just right. If the integrity of the shells or bearing edges are compromised in anyway then the kit may be un-tunable and then you can only expect to get out something resembling a half decent tone. Plastic polyfilm (PET) heads DONT stretch very well, they have a high tensile strength so they just get tighter then snap, so never go ott on tightness. Bring the heads up to a resonating point, its really just trial and error you should hear more body in the tone produced, then work from there until you hear what you think is right for what your doing. And lastly dont worry, most drummers walk around with badly tuned kits and beginners are entitled to do it. drumbum
  3. Why is a silloette of mickey mouse on the card??? Mike
  4. Hey check out Tony's new dvd called "pure energy" and he's also on John Reshards "22" album, just now he's playing for lazyeye, he's a fantastic drummers drummer.. Mike
  5. Try and source 'virgil donati's - Power drumming' Theres exellent exercises in there for pedal workouts and if I can remember properly he uses the '90 degree' rule. I guess seat height is down to personal preference, I usually go by 'not too high and not too low' but comfortable. Mike
  6. Will you be jamming the polska? Polonaise?
  7. WTFs that? Is there a lesson in there somewhere? I think the best bet for someone starting out in aberdeen would be give to check out your local youth project they usually got some stuff happening in there for young musicians, I remember Japo doing the rounds along time ago. Also check out your school, if your still playing in 6 months and your getting the hang of it then give a teacher your money, Archer and Nick will take you down a proven path that will give you the confidence and facility to do your own stuff, Im not saying I like how these characters teach but for a beginner I doubt you'll get any better, they are a bit pricey tho. Mike
  8. Where's PlanetX? This list is shit...
  9. Is that you trying to spin more rumours? Ill start with my distortion of the truth. 4 electricians dressed in spandex (one was called bobby by the way), had wired the shop wrong a long time ago, when the problem was found the insurance would'nt cover so people could come in, the shop had to be rewired again and closed for the duration. The tru story is, Al qeada had planned to bomb Pro-sound, the MOD found documents in a small town in Iraq detailing a mission involving snare drums packed with explosives, they came in and closed the shop down while the searched for the WMD. mike
  10. I cant wait, Im gonna be checking out Polar bear, cathie rae, Jazz review, Gary gibbs, Tommy smith. Its the first time Ive been able to attend any jazz festival gigs, I was working offshore the last time. I usually go down to edinburgh and glasgow they have a great jazz/funk scene down there but it's great aberdeen is catching up.. Which ones are you guys checking out?
  11. So after all the piffle about how shops work and 200 quid trips to glasgow (Im sure BA do a 60 return to glasgow from aberdeen), we can agree prosound offers a better deal than rnb and brucies? And if your willing to wait and get a better deal then buy online.. Mike
  12. Yeah the doom rumours are all out in force when they dont know whats happening. But it's good news all round, now I can look forward to picking up my cymbal stand at the end of the month. And continue my protest against Rnbs crap stock, dodgy staff and brucies inflated prices. mike
  13. Pro-sounds back open again, I spoke with mike yesterday, apparently it was some electrical failure. Its good news... mike
  14. If you've got the cash the byres perfect, if it's good enough for Michael Lee and BMG then its good enough for anyone who frequents this website.. Mike
  15. i didnt know they had staffing problems, i thought people would be falling over themselves to work in a music shop talking gear all day, I know I would.
  16. Has prosound closed? Ive been trying to phone all week and iv had no reply. mike
  17. Mine would be a pearl reference kit 8,10,12,14,14,16,20 on a drumframe with the entire zildjian A Custom series and a Dunnet ti 14x6 snare to finish it off. Thinking back, with the amount of money iv spent of gear I could have bought 3 setups like that. mh
  18. I only know a couple females who are really good, they dont have "Im a female playing drums" attitude, Insted there "drummers playing drums", Its never been a topic of conversation personally, but i do know that this topic comes up, especially online in forums frequented by 14-20 year olds, If you have the female playing drums attitude take up another instrument like the recorder, If your a player then good for you, get out there and be a becon of hope for other DRUMMERS wether there male or female.
  19. Id rather see more mature bands, The younger band are seem to think there amazing but the last couple of band Iv been to see in aberdeen were really just bedroom musicians playing on a stage, with 16-20 year olds cheering them on like there rock gods. I cant believe some people have posted that they have hit there peak at 23, what a load of shite, I think if you keep playing you hit your peak at about 35-40, although I know people who are in there 50s and have just gotten a slot at ronnie scotts in london and there fantastic musicians, Any band who has that on there CV are doing ok.
  20. Tonight Paul Mills will be using dennis chambers kit for the hue and cry gig at the lemon tree...... mike
  21. Scotland could be like Norway, but all the rich people have an "Im all right Jack" attitude and they'll keep voting labour as long as they make there money and everything is fine in there household a bit like Germanys OAPs. If the oil ran out we'd be in for a complete society breakdown (Which is exactly what the western world and its affiliates need)
