  1. Yeah' date=' was it not a bit obvious that this was a joke...? Harriet lives with me and Jamesy and was left logged in and another member of mmw posted that. We thought it was obvious. Oops, probably a silly idea.

And even if it wasnt and she actually thought that, whats wrong with having her opinion. Musically the two bands are worlds apart and i'd imagine there could be people who would much prefer my minds weapon.

that really showed a hatred in a way for my minds weapon. Jeez didnt think you diskliked us THAT much. Whatever. Thats not an issue. To say "just die..." Woah! Steady dude.

    Ben[/quote']

Yeah, it's not like he should get banned or anything. And speaking of people who were supposed to be banned...

  2. The_Master_2_c.jpg

Come on' date=' i think JFK probably had more brains after he was assassinated than some of the people who frequent these boards do.

    [/quote']

I think it's fairer to say that the accumulative amount of brain Jackie Onassis was holding in her hands after JFK was shot would in itself be greater. And would have had better things to do than formulate one of several cliched and ill-advised 'opinions' on the issue of asylum...

  3. i see your point dave' date=' 'the sky is too high' remains my fave coxon album because no-one really knew what to expect of him when he made it. but the new album is tops however i cant help thinking that some songs from it would have made cracking blur singles...

bet albarn thinks the same an all![/quote']

Bet he doesn't, considering he's probably too busy doing a nose flute jam session with some Maoris to spend time doing ace pop songs instead...

But I think the new Coxon album is ace, he was great when I reviewed him playing at King Tut's for the Glasgow Evening Times. Great to see an ex-lead guitarist doing so well, almost erased the horror of reviewing John Squire at the same venue, not quite though...

  4. Michael MacLennan is not a godly enough name and thus i'd never involve myself or any of my brethren in such pernicious forms of idolatry by uttering such a name that conveys no sense of deification about it.

That's why my new name is simply 'The Master'' date=' and usually has to be written in gold ink, and if not then the author has to eat two of their own toe-nails.

Thats hardly a proud boast or a glittering achievement though.

I reckon if most messageboard users on here got Alzheimer's, their I.Qs would double.

That's hardly fair, even those afflicted with Alzheimer's can have moments of lucidity in their early stages that are almost mathematically incomparable with the drivel that pisses onto the computer screen when I visit this messageboard.

PS On a serious note regarding the 3 month thing, I recently completed a post-graduate degree in a specific subject, and moved to where I could get a job, much as I wouldn't like to be in the place for too long. I think some people have genuine reasons for not wanting to work until they get a position suited to their ambitions, but I know a lot of people who just got despondent after their first 10 job applications were turned down, and then didn't follow more appropriate routes of getting experience, such as joining a recruitment agency, etc...

  5. I agree with the Munchmeister regarding the pointlessness of these sorry topics. I remember the days I used to spend trying to argue on message boards, before I realised what a waste of time it was.

Because (a) the topic gets so diverted you spend hours trying to navigate which point somebody responded to which was rebuffed but not really because it wasn't the proper point they should have responded to because the other person missed the point and didn't listen to what that other twat had to say and didn't even make any sense anyway because if you had read it properly you would have known that it wasn't the way you must have thought it was like the first person said but not the second because they seem to have some sort of personal vendetta despite the fact this is only the internet but that's getting off the fact that if you really look into the issue you really can't deny what he said because it makes sense unless you realise he wasn't talking about what you thought he was so therefore you may as well fuck off and die you scumpig.

And (b) because I'm the God Munch talks about. And I really am cleverererer than anyone here. By gallons.

  6. Nazi%20Rally.JPEG

Tristen and 'friends' wave the immigrants goodbye on their deathboats, while reassuring them that no, they really aren't racist, and no, there's nothing wrong with startingly stupid assumptions and using a 'Philosophy for Dummies' book to utilise subjectivity as a reason for allowing prejudice to flood our country. "Auf Wiedersen, as the master race say!"

  7. That's crap' date=' there's no point in trying to be rich unless you're going to sign to a major but people play music for the love of it, it's a priority issue, money or music, if you're lucky you'll be able to sign to a major and get both. they are a means to an end, a necessary evil if you're against them, i personally have no problem with them at all.

    [/quote']

You're wrong, admit it hobo Joe. You're just in it for the money. Go on. Admit it. Admit it hobo Joe. Go on. You don't love it, you love the money. The tantalising feeling of it being in your hands, I bet you'd fuck a goat to get on a major label. Go on, admit it hobo Joe. Admit it. Go on.

  8. Hey Dave, as far as I'm aware Cubasis is pretty darned good for a budget sequencer, does a lot of the things Cubase does, but is only 50 or so. Obviously Cubase has a lot of extras, but it will cost you a few extra pounds.

Right now I'm using Reason and Ableton Live 3.0, Reason for the backing, and Live for recording audio. You can link the two up so they play in tandem, which kicks ass, especially for playing live with Popcorn Fiend. I'd recommend both of those, though I think combined they'd cost over 500, unless you can find, ermm, a cheaper way of acquiring them...

  9. The rejigged laptop-centric Popcorn Fiend has again been resurrected, and plays at Dr Drakes this Wednesday Sept 8. Playing alongside (the apparently fantastic Glasgow band) Park Attack, Otherman, and the last gig from Diablo, the gig starts around 730, and the Popcorn Fiend band (of one) are travelling all the way from Inverness just for the gig...

  10. cool post but dude...i think you need to take top man out of the equation...they wouldnt wear anything from topman.

    HA! That reminds me...

When I was playing in Hookers Green and we went to London, Mart saw the Lost Prophets people, had a chat and gave them a CD of his. Where was it we were in at the time...

    Topman!

PS Though I can't remember if they bought anything, but they were definitely trying on some of the stuff...

  11. I think the problem is that it wasn't really a diverse bill, more a bunch of 'rock' bands (I use the description loosely) and then one rapper, which isn't setting things up too well. In that instance you're just going to get lots of rock fans who'll then be annoyed when the continuity of bands they like is interrupted. Whereas if it had have been more diverse, with other genres ensuring the day wasn't focused on one type of music, people wouldn't have been as hostile.

I thought Sunday at Reading (Friday at Leeds) was supposed to be the 'rock' day? In which case the decision to make 50 Cent the sole odd man out was a little dumb...

  12. I was thinking about Black Flag (and an article in Drowned in Sound), and thought it'd be cool to have my own PA, travelling around and playing Popcorn Fiend gigs whereever I pleased. But can anyone tell me what size is needed for playing a small bar, a hall, etc? And how much they'd be? It'd beat pay to play anyday...

  13. well i have a choice...a country retreat at my parents farmhouse sat on 6 acres of lovely countryside 8 miles outside of ellon which im looking after while my parents are in indonesia. A large top floor apartment in central Aberdeen.

It's like an Aberdeen version of MTV Cribs (god forbid), next you'll be telling us about the jacuzzi in which you compose all those Quik classics... or the punk to the max plasma TV on which you watch Pennywise DVDs...

  14. like i said...real nfg fans will be going to one of the headlining dates they have around the country...

Not necessarily, I'd go to a festival like Reading or Leeds to see lots of bands I really liked, when I wouldn't be able to go to Glasgow for each of those bands gigs, due to lack of money, work, etc... I just think any band should have the integrity to honour committments unless absolutely necessary. Even pop-punk pap like NFG.

Muse managed to play at T in the Park despite the fact the drummers father had died just a matter of days ago, and NFG pull out because they get to play one song on the TELEVISION! Whoa mama! But then they're probably too deferrent to their management company to have the balls to honour their tour dates. Punk rock!

  15. what? why on earth is it?

the chance to go on the vma's and play to literally hundreds of millions people worldwide or play two festival dates in the UK when they are here pretty regularly anyway and have broken the UK.

I dont give a rats ass about hardcore or punk ethos...no band in their right mind would do reading and leeds over the VMA's...

Yeah, especially since of those twats is always going on about how he used to be in a hardcore band... real hardcore, pulling out of a date with a weeks notice when thousands of fans would've been looking forward to seeing you here. I'm sure most people would love to play the VMA's, but most people wouldn't be gimpish enough to let down a whole lot of people and renege on committments that they've made...

  16. What I mean is' date=' at least when you see a shit band that are technically very good, you can at least marvel at that side of things, but when you see/hear a band who are technically not very good and play shit music/songs, well you have nothing!

    [/quote']

But usually I don't marvel at it, I just despair at people who could do so much better. And when I see/hear a band who are technically not very good and play shit music/songs, I do have something. Superiority! Ha! And also the ability to walk up to the stage and turn the power off. Before running away like a girlie-man (to put it in Arnie speak).
