  1. Personal favourites:

Eddie Vedder...I was listening to Black live last night. He held a note for such a crazy length of time and it sounded so effortless as he went into something straight after. He's got really good dynamics and effortless power...lyrics to back it up as well.

Layne Stayley...especially as a pairing with Jerry Cantrell. Their voices work so well together. He's really good on the Mad Season album. Infact I would say I like Jerry Cantrell just as much.

Neil Young. Mainly because he's got something different going on. I am not sure but I think it might be a love/hate affair with his voice? If you have the Greendale album you'll know his voice is also great for telling stories...the live DVD...great!

James Hetfield. So Seek & Destroy through to ...And Justice For All aren't overly great vocal performances. However, during the black album era he really learnt to sing well. Prime example of what I love about his vocals can be heard on "No Lead Clover" from S&M. The long clean notes and his new found range are pretty awesom...ofcourse the Texas twang is always there!

Curt Kirkwood from Meat Puppets/Eyes Adrift. I am not really familiar with the Meat Puppets songs but the Eye Adrift album has really good vocals. Like Neil Young I don't think it is an obvious choice but it is entertaining...sometimes straying into slightly off key moments during the AOL sessions but it just doesn't seem to matter.

  2. I was at Knockhill yesterday and people were stalling all over the shop. Ofcourse driving race cars is very difficult and clutches are brutal...there were still a few "wheyyyss" when people stalled. One poor fellow stalled 3 times in a row trying to leave the pits.

  3. DSL50 is pretty crazy when up at around 6 so if anything you want less than that. Some 50watt valve amps after 1/2 or 1/4 power switches. Taking Aberdeen as an example Drakes would have been where you need more power due to there being no PA. The DSL401 I recommended has 40watts of power and even through 1 speaker is very loud when cranked up...through a 4x12" it'd be more than enough for any venue.

  4. I'll consider Hybrid or Solidstate' date=' as long as it's good. (Valve ones are outa my price range and require too much maintenance for me to be assed)

Not true at all. If you head along to www.gak.co.uk you'll find the Marshall DSL401 which is the combo version of the DSL50 and 100. It's 397. All valve pushing out 40 watts through a 1x12" speaker. Clean, Drive and Drive + <which is just a 20Db volume boost for solos>. It has foot switchable reverb, effects loop...pfft everything! As for maintenance...if you treat it right then you should only need to change valves after a year or two. Occasionally you might need to set the bias but really turnnig a knob is a little price to pay for the better tone.

  5. I can' date=' provided I tell them about 36 months in advance...[/quote']

Same...I forgot I had holidays last year because I only work 12hours a week. It came to the last month where we were allowed to take them...I had 48hours! Which for me would be the whole month. Problem is we have to take the holidays...there's no choice of just taking the money.

  6. Good gig. I had a great time. The crazy happenings outside certainly won't be forgotten! I must say Deadenstero have to be one of the best bands I have seen in Aberdeen.

I'd also just like to say that the on stage sound at the Moorings is pretty fantastic. Everything was so loud and clear. Now I know why Flash is so proud of their equipment...problem is now I really want Ampeg!
