  1. A good tip I was given was to listen to the drum without any heads on it (ie. hold it in a way that you can hit the side of the drum and listen to the resonance) and get very familiar with that sound because thats the frequency you should be aiming for with tuning...it also depends on the room you are in...some tones wont work well in certain rooms, so you could tune it somewhere then it sounds duff when you try it somewhere else. I've always tuned the resonant head slightly more tight than the batter, and another +1 on moongel to kill any excess ringing...

Learning to use one of these would also help!!

  2. I have the Roland HD1, its not the most realistic feeling kit but great for a bash about. The onboard sounds are terrible but if you hook it up to a PC via MIDI you can use some great sounding software like BFD/Addictive Drums...its a lot more playable with decent sounds. The only thing is that the kick drum is a pedal only, and not ideal (double beats are pretty hard, triplets, forget it)...I've got rid of this and use an old pedal with an old rubber kick drum practice pad, then built a trigger by taping a 50p pizeo to it and solder a TRS jack socket, then connect the kick lead there....best of both worlds now...

The HD1 has gone up in price, i picked mine up when they were 450, they may be a bit more now...

  3. Does anyone know (from experience, NOT from google please) of good low cost local printing places that can do low run prints (like A4 laser colour copies) etc...there used to be one place on the corner of the corner of Huntly street that was good for stuff like this, but I havent been there in over 15 years and sure its closed now...Thistle Reprographics (who were a lot more pricey) looks to be closed now aswell..the rest look to be full on printing press places who would probably charge through the roof for stuff like 20 copies....anyone use anyone good?

  4. It was in your thread that I spotted this guitar to be honest but didn't have the money (or need for a guitar!) at the time...I saw this in R&B and half expected it to be your guitar (forgot it had the EMG's) and just bought it on impulse...it is a really great guitar to play though, definitely the best Ibanez I've ever played, I prefer more basic guitars (like a les paul) but this one is really good...the thru neck is a nice touch...

  5. That RC50 looks insane, I have the original pedal RC20XL which I always thought was great, but not very practical. I've never tried attaching other foot switches to it for shifting phrases etc.

I used to find it really muddy though until I started using it in a FX loop instead of straight into my amp....that works a million times better and the layers can all be heard very clearly and don't mush up when you pile on the distortion...

  6. Wondering if anyone would be interested in this guitar, don't really want to sell it as I just bought it the other week but I'm hardly playing guitar these days. Its taken a bit of a dent on the bottom (I bought it like that, I've only played it once for a couple of hours) obviously doesn't affect the sound but is a bit unsightly. It was £280 from R&B s/h, I wanted to only pay £250 but they weren't interested...so I will sell to the first offer of £250 or higher....no haggling! :)

  7. £100 tournament on at G again this Sunday, they are expecting 100 runners (thats the cap anyway).... 15,000 chips, 30 minute levels...shoudl be decent amount of play and prizepool. Anyone else playing?

  8. Stu Hamm is strictly just bass

Bastard Noise... the focus is on the bass (with drums vocals and power electronics)

    How about just upright bass?

How could I forget the one handed bassist? Just rememberd this...

I saw some band in Aberdeen recently (some local guys I think) with just drums and bass...they were pretty cool...dunno their name, young guys...

  9. Bit of late notice.....but a big 100 tourney is away to kick off at the G at 3pm (think you can buy in up to 4pm) about 62 folk already registered, and there is one re-entry allowed so pot is gonna be massive (4k for winner maybe) Wan Tymeeeeee!!!!
