MitchPact
Am organising some shows for a US band 'The 9th Plague' and have just been informed by the band that they have yet to sort out transformers for their amps over here.I just wondered if anyone had any experience of using US amps over here and which transformers/power converters to use?Any help appreciated,Dave
Guest lime
well, im probably being patronising, but have you got them to make sure if theres a switch or somethign like that on the back of the amp to make it operational on 230v?most big amps have this, you just switch away, and use a power cable with british plug on the end. MitchPact
Thanks for the reply. The Band are using Peavey amps the 'xxx head' and the '5150 head' along with a 'hartke bass head' i can find little info on the bass head but after looking at the peavey website and downloading the specific manuals sadly no mention to such a switch has been made.Dave
Tav
Well ask the band. I am sure the Hartke has the 115v/230v switch on the back but my mind may be lying to me.

soundian
If they don't have switches on the amps then get hold of one of those transformers they use in building sites and a plug to go into it. Wire the plug into a 4 bar and you'll have all the pussy american power you want.

No...dont buy anything .... most tool rental companies will hire you one really cheap. And if they are using american made gear bought for the american market they wont have 110/240 switches...they will run on 110 only.G... Depends how long you need it for. You'll still need to make a cable though cos those hire shops will not give you a converter cable.

No point in making a 4way cos you would have to fit 13amp plugs to the yank amps.....Better if they had a yank 4way or 2.....dont ya think?G... Yea, from the safety point of view, you don't want to plug in a 115 to a 250 supply. Getting them to bring a couple of yank fourbars and wiring them up to a 110V connector would be best...don't ya think?
Monk Rocker
I use an American bass amp and I have a transformer if you are really struggling....
MitchPact
Problem has been solved by renting a 2 KVa 240v->110vstep down transformer from HSS which is then connected to a US 6 way extension lead, which was rewired with an Industrial plug on the end so as to be compatible with the transformers industrial plug. Thanks very much to those who offered their knowledge and opinions, very much appreciated.Dave
