Bigsby
OK, I have a lot of MP3s, mostly ripped via itunes. They end up being in folders by Artist, then each individual album inside that.I have now stopped using iTunes and want software that will re-arrange my folders to get rid of the artist folders and just have album, ie if I want to copy Brothers in Arms onto my device I just cut and paste teh Brothers in Arms folder from my hard drive, I don't have to go into Dire Straits first.Anyone recommend software. Tried a few so far.
MattJimF
You can give this a try - Mp3tag - the universal Tag Editor (ID3v2, MP4, OGG, FLAC, ...)You can set it up how ever you want and it uses amazon for tag source as well as other places (Can be a bit dickish for british bands)
Bigsby
I tried that, but i can't see how to get it to alter folders, just tags.
FOX
Right, this might be nonsense - but try, with iTunes, changing the artist name to something global (perhaps "Artist"? ) and see how that affects your hierarchy. Changing the Album Artist might be enough.EDIT: I think there's an option in iTunes to get it to move the folders according to tags there and then, rather than waiting. Bigsby
Don't have iTunes anymore and would prefer not to install bloatware. Must be an easier way.

pastperfect
If you have all your music in one main directory you would just browse to it in media monkey and press CTRL+R to bring up the auto-organise menu...Click configure in the menu that pops up and then i think the settings you are looking for is this: This will remove the artist folder and move everything up a level.Be careful though as there is no "undo" function if it goes wrong...Here is some documentation from there site that may be useful:Media Monkey - Organizing Files and FoldersMedia Monkey - Configuring Directory and Filename Formats
