Headed up by label boss OnTheFly, expect live acts, DJ sets, collaborations & special guests, plus the usual fun & mischief that Fence always bring. Apart from running De-Fence, Falkirk-based OnTheFly currently plays drums for King Creosote, makes noises and creates remixes for various members of The Fence Collective, occasionally performs live (electronica / hip hop and experimental) and loves to DJ at any given opportunity.http://www.myspace.com/montheflyhttp://www.de-fencerecords.comVIVA STEREOViva Stereo were born in Glasgow with the view to making music that would encompass a full weekends ebbs and flows. Saturday nights are important to Viva Stereo but it comes with the Sunday soul searching (not to mention the grim reality of Monday morning and the working week) and the combination of these are what give the stereo sound its dark edges.A strutting mass of sneering proto-punk / psyche robotics replete with grind like electronics and heavy duty fearsome hook laden riffs, think Darklands era Jesus and Mary Chain (Losing Today)anthemic, accessible, slightly My Bloody Valentine and yet still so gorgeous (There Goes The Fear)http://www.myspace.com/vivastereohttp://www.vivastereo.co.ukDOWN THE TINY STEPSDown the Tiny Steps are a Glasgow-based electro-folk-pop trio. That sounds cack, but they are not. They spend most of their time carving pop classics from the very tissue of their souls. Songwriter, Jonnie Common records 24hours a day, hooked up to a phantom powered saline drip. He has written over 250 songs and is prepared to admit that at least 10 of them might be pish.Jonnie Common vox / ac.guitar / keys / beats / samplesCraig Rankine keys / beats / samples / voxGraham Norris elec.guitar / keys / voxCraig met Graham. Jonnie met Craig. Craig made Graham meet Jonnie. True story.Sometimes its lo-fi acoustic shuffles. Sometimes its electro-folk wizardry. It's always inventive, endearing and fun (Fence Records)repetitive beats and an array of flashing lights and meters to propel their tunes; think Beck or The Beta Band with a decided Fife accent (Is This Music?)As the florally-decorated synthesisers belonging to Down the Tiny Steps were being heaved on to the stage, Johnnie Common was already in a frenzy behind his turn tables. His huge talent as a DJ is what most impressed during their tight show, which came on like Hot Chip collaborating with The Avalanches (The Sunday Herald)http://www.myspace.com/downthetinystepshttp://www.downthetinysteps.co.uk

offramp
This gig has been featured in The Kiosque.Lovely stuff.http://www.thekiosque.com/de-fence-records-aberdeen.shtmlDe-Fence Records NightSaturday 8 November | The Blue Lamp | 8pm | 10/8advThis is second Fence-related gig The Kiosque has featured this weekend, but we're not going to make any excuses for that. In the excellent surroundings of The Blue Lamp we're going to be treated to a bit of a live showcase from the Fife label's electronic/experimental arm, De-Fence Records. Featuring some of the artists who've appeared on their limited, sought-after 10-inch vinyl series 10x10, this looks like it's going to be a great addition to the eclectic Sound Festival's programme.Heading up the live acts are Falkirk's OnTheFly, otherwise known as De-Fence's boss and King Creosote's drummer, he's the Fence Collective's main remixer who also has a nice line in experimental hip-hop and electronica which he can call his own.Glasgow's Viva Stereo bring raw, dark robotic beats together with a smattering of guitars to achieve something that pays homage to classic-era Mary Chain and Primal Scream while still sounding fresh and interesting. Finally, Down The Tiny Steps plough a more pop/folk-based furrow albeit one laced with electronics and that unmistakeably Scottish feel and sound that Fence artists seem to have on tap. The De-Fence DJs which for all I know may include all, some or none of the above will also be on hand to provide further entertainment.
