Hey guys,

Weve added a new video to the left of our page......entitled "Skinny Sessions......."

MySpace.com - the little kicks - Aberdeen, UK - Indie / Pop / Rock - www.myspace.com/thelittlekicks

Recently we were approcached by a Glasgow company called Otago Sounds in conjunction with the Aberdeen based Scene 11 productions company. Both are specialists in the various fields of audio and video recording / film work / commercial work / advertising and TV.

Anyway, they had asked us if wed be interested in working with them to film a ten minute video for the The Skinny magazine website to incorporate the live performance of two tracks and an interview. A kind of "Live at Abbey Road" vibe promo video.

Needless to say, we said yes. And posted up are the results.

I think this is the first in a regular series they will be doing (if all goes to plan and the skinny like it). For us its a really handy thing to put up so in the meantime weve uploaded it for all to see.

Have a look and see what you think.

Thanks to the guys - Ross Otago, Dave and ------ (ill leave his name out and he knows why), well hopefully be working on something else again soon.

Steven

The interview sections are a bit bland. They don't really give much to the viewer, aesthetically or otherwise - you seem a little reserved. I suppose the music is the main point really and overall I guess the video gives a little insight into the band, without being exactly exciting, edgy or different. The two songs used are quite similar aswell, maybe Time to Take Over would have been more effective for me alongside one of the others to demonstrate more angles of your sound.

i apprecate your feedback and thats stuff well worth noting. i agree about the tracks but we plan to do a single at some point this year and itll be one of them so we did those 2.

yeah, our first thoughts were also that there wasnt enough interview footage but then we thought about the fiming of the day and realised there was only so much they could use!

Most of the questions asked had pretty funny answers but mainly involved either us slagging someone off by accident or us saying stuff which was in no way suitable for it. the most entertainng part was asking if we had any stories to tell from going on the road / gigging away and that was all unrepeatable.

im reserved because around 30 seconds before filming i got started on! this guy watching us filming threw abuse at us and i muttered something back but he heard me and told me has coming to fuck me up - so i was pretty much looking over my shoulder constantly between takes.

maybe in hindsight, with a bit more practice and no neds (interview was one take), wed have been more natural and wed hae done a different track second. but were hoping to do more with the guys soon (maybe film a live gig) so its good for us to get these thoughts.

Nice one, good to get some filming done! Good luck with future productions, they'll only get better.

I know it's youtube and all that but the sound seems quite muffled. I don't know how the original compares with this but would be even better if it were crisper. Minor crit though.

From a completely visual/technical perspective, I know it is a very difficult task to film a relatively static subject in a confined space and edit it together in a way that keeps the viewer's attention. Hence, the over-use of ridiculous flash pans and fruity effects when bands do studio sessions on the likes of T4: anything to keep the attention.

This video is very well put together in my opinion. the little dolly effect is a nice touch, there is a good variety of shots/angles, the pace of cutting suits the music and the lighting is nicely set up in the studio scene. The graphics are stylish also without being over the top.

I'm guessing the cameras used were the average high end DV type. The downfall of using these cameras is that the immediate visual effect is cheap looking/home-made and you have to compensate for that in other areas such as editing, shot choice, etc. This is done perfectly in the studio part of the video but the interview part is a bit over saturated with light, making it a bit inconsistent and it brings down that level of professionalism.

that's minor criticism though and i'm really glad to see something like this getting made in Aberdeen. It made me home sick!

Music wise = bloody good too.
