First ever Classical Music Night at the Tunnels

Fed up of hearing crappy local bands? Well, this the night for you.

AT LAST: Solo Instrumentalists and vocalists finally brought out of the stuffy

atmosphere of the recital hall and into the warm embrace of Tunnel 2.

Expect to hear skilled musicians having a laugh, playing what they love, and doing their best to convey their passion for their music.

All profits donated to Music in Hospitals Scotland.

Hey there

I have two vocalists. I will be singing earlier pieces from composers such as Mozart, Arne, Handel, etc. I will also be singing some modern art songs and operatic pieces from Rossini and Schubert. The other singer will be concentrating on more jazz/Gershwin standards, more like 40s/50s music.

I also have a clarinettist playing a Mozart Concerto, there are a few other players but they have not confirmed their repertoire with me yet.

I hope you can come along, cheers jayne.

Cheers, I really appreciate your positive feedback.

I will definately organise another classical night, but I think I will leave it until late feb/early March next year. The format will change aswell, I think it should be more like an open mic, and also open up the genres that we play to jazz.

A big thank you to Dr. Tricker for playing the piano, we couldn't do it without him.

Booo. Aren't there dedicated jazz nights already in Aberdeen? Why water down a good idea by inviting that lot?

I was interested in coming to the next classical night (would have came to this one but was skint) as it's a bit different. But I probably wouldn't bother if it's just going to be a jazz open mic.

Now now, a bit of Jazz never hurt anyone. Or a lot of Jazz for that matter!

However, I do take your point. I do reckon it should be primarily classical stuff. Of course, what exactly constitutes "classical" is up for debate. Perhaps more instrumentalists next time, but it was clear to me that that was the intention of the organisers anyway.

classical night

Hiya

Ok, I'll just leave it as Classical. I have a number of brass/woodwind players who were wondering what they could play, but since classical also includes works by porter, gershwin, etc and music from 15th century right up to the present day, I'm sure they will come up with something :-)

To be honest I'm surprised that we managed to organise the night at all, Dr. Tricker was very poorly, so he was an absolute legend for playing even though he was ill. No less than 4 people canceled on me the weekend before the gig, and it was only some of my brilliant classical buddies bailing me out that we managed to go ahead.

I will definitely change to an open-mic format. I will have some people on the bill but will ask them for smaller sets, so that there will be plenty of spaces for those who just want to come along. I will still have to charge something at the door, to cover the fee of hiring Dr. Tricker and his magic fingers for the night.

Many thanks

Jayne
