flyingsinatra
stupid question really but here goes, been interested in buying myself a fender tele for a while now, i have been shopping around and found a cool sunburst mexican tele, i loved the sound of it but was warned of mexicans, is there really a difference between USA's and Mexicans? Mouse
I guess it is down to taste. I have ordered/am ordering one & possibly modifiying it (because I'm into that crap ). I personally think both guitars are brilliant, but the mexican is more for me as it is cheaper, lighter, and has a better rock tone & less twang than the American. Of course the American will be slightly better quality, it is parts wise in certain places, but the Mexican is still a brilliant guitar, I wouldn't be getting one if it was shite! flyingsinatra
i'm after a more melodic sound, is a mexican therefore the right way to go if you are saying it provides a more rocky sound?
Mouse
Oh don't worry, it would definately be good for melodic stuff. I just used the terms rockier to seperate the American from the Mexican.
Leckie Gilman
hmmm i was going to buy a mexican tele (purely because i couldn't afford the american one) and i tried it out through a marshall valvestate2000 avt-100 (what i use anyway) and i just couldn't get it to sound any good. infact as i remember, it sounded absolute pish. it's way too twangy and tinny sounding. also it appeared that you can't get mexican ones with a rosewood fingerboard leaving only maple as an option (gads).i wouldn't buy one. well.......................................maybe the american one. GraemeC
My Fender Jazz is a Mex....its a Classic reissue and the build quality is superb....its only "fault" and its not really a fault just a minor short coming, is its slight lack of bottom end. I love it though.
Leckie Gilman
well yeah but thats a completely different guitar graeme. my fat-strat is a mexican. all i'm saying is that i can't get those tricky mex teles to sound good. Ewan U.N.C.L.E.
last i knew you could get mex fenders with rosewood fingerboards. and if u dont like the sound , replacement pickups would cost far less thean the price difference of an american. Guest operator zero
If you go and look in the wanted and for sale forums for a post by me selling guitars you'll find a mexi tele in black with a hardcase for 250...

Mouse
Both the Mexican Tele's at Tom's sound really good & handle distortion pretty well to my liking. If I don't like the sound with mine though, just gonna bung in a hot rail!
Leckie Gilman
hot rails solve all tele troubles.

Leckie Gilman
nah theres a clear cut difference between my fat-strat and my les-paul
Guest operator zero
graeme - possibly because they like the look and weight of the fender but like the sound of a gibson? ?(
Leckie Gilman
yeah cos fenders are so much more sexier.cept for the sg.
Guest operator zero
well i reckon that's down to personal taste - I'm not a big fan of fenders but i can see why people like them! (think about jimi hendrix and stevie ray vaughan - i don't think the visible stuff they did (i.e the most famous images of them) would be the same if they had a different guitar in their arms...) Mouse
Most Strats are sexier than a Standard Les Paul, but then again when you get a Les Paul Custom, then that is sexy!

Guest DustyDeviada
My experience of Mexican Fenders is that they tend to have poxy tuners. Has anybody tried a (US made) Highway 1 Tele?
Leckie Gilman
isnt a highway 1 guitar just what people buy if they are too cool to have a mexican one?
