  4. Here are some "rules" for the duration of the World Cup (please add your own...):

    1. Avatar must be team related

    2. When referring to your team, you must refer to them as "we" / "you"

    3. Belgium is the BEST team in the world and Fellaini has the BEST hair in the world (even better than Charlie Mulgrew).

In fact, Fellaini is the most know hair footballer in the world.

  6. Venue suggestions welcome.

    My thoughts on the 'standard' Aberdeen venues are as below;

Tunnels - decent location, 'tried and tested' venue for mini-fest, decent price.

Drummonds - not suitable for what I want to put on.

Lemon Tree - little more expensive, decent location, 'outside area', excellent standard etc.

    Downstairs - potentially too small.

    Cellar - definitely too small.

I'd also like a 'think outside the box' type venue, just not sure where?

Unless the Lemon Tree has changed dramatically since I put on gigs there a few years ago, I'd say it's more than a little more expensive than the others!  It's a great venue in my view, but you need to pull a really big crowd to break even and to get a good atmosphere in the place because it's so big!  300+ really for the place to be "busy" - I only managed that once!

What would be cool, but much more work (and probably costly / lots of red tape to get through / etc) would be in a public space like Union Terrace Gardens or something.  But you would need to factor in getting the Cooncil on board, getting a stage, hiring all the audio equipment / backline, portaloos, security, and all that jazz.  I'm sure there are lots of other things too.

What's going on down at Amadeus these days...?  It's probably crumbling so not a viable option.

Beach ballroom?  Probably not viable because it's probably like a magnified version of Lemon Tree in terms of size, cost, etc.  Those Live @ the Beach gigs seem to have died a death.

Sorry - that's probably not much help.  I've typed it now though, so I'll leave it.

  8. Thrice a week doing around about 5k. Sometimes less, sometimes a smidge more. Im definitely going ca'canny about it, building up gradually. Thanks for the encouragement.

Ive started using an app that you link your paypal account to and you set targets that if you dont hit you get charged an amount you're comfortable with. Its a gimmick but it totally works for me - I need that extra motivation. Inversely, if you hit your targets you get paid money from others who miss theirs. A crazy idea but again, good motivation. I know I shouldnt need it but still.

    Wow - that's a cool / weird gimmick that I ain't heard of.

It's quite a good idea in some ways - although, can you abandon it at any time you want?  I.e. what if you break your leg or something...?  You can't exactly smash your running targets if you're on crutches for 8 weeks.

ca_gere - you'll need to pick someone else.  Holland's already gone.

  10. Chris, I'm sure it will be within your powers to do this...

The winner of this tournament gets to have their status (or whatever it's called - the bit where it says "Active Member" for me) changed to World Cup Winner for 4 years, right?

  11. Aye - what Chris said - that's a huge difference. Well ran! Negative split of any sort is good going but a full minute is good - probably shows you have a faster 10k in you (on current fitness) if you could push on that much in the second half.

  12. Checking my times again and my 2nd 5k (negative split!) was within 30 secs of my 5k PB!

Which makes me think I should really get along to a parkrun soon.  Going to Copenhagen on Wednesday and there's one in the park behind our hotel...

Same for me Chris.  First 5k - 20:08, second 5k 19:56.  In fact, that's 22 seconds from 5k PB!  I should definitely have a quicker 5k in me.

  13. Was stuck in a psychological halfway house because concentrating on building up distance is priority #1,  but wanted to make a decent stab at this race.

    Splits n' shit: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/501799947

You said your revised target was 62/63 minutes didn't you?  Pretty much bang on with 63:20 - gotta be happy with that!

    Well done folks.

The prospect of doing a 10k is feeling less and less daunting. I'm regularly doing 5k at a 10 min mile pace now and have started enjoying the act of running more and more. Whereas before I was finding it a chore and pretty depressing (I felt it just showed me how unfit I was without much progress), now i'm excited about going out and can feel the progress each time. Gonna sign up for something pretty soon.

Those barefoot shoes have totally changed my life by the way... it's like night and day. They feel so much less bouncy and just more natural and i'm able to just run and run. The second time I wore them I was able to do almost twice the distance I did the previous night. I think they just suit my running style but also help me pace myself better. I'm developing calves like bull testicles because of them too.

Sounding good dude.  Remember to keep doing what you're doing and build up gradually - don't just decide that because you're feeling good you're going to go and run 10k in one go.  Try adding one km at a time for example.

How often are you running 5k?  If you're doing it a few times a week, perhaps just try adding 1km to one of the runs.  Do that for a few weeks, then add another 1km, do that for a few weeks and so on.  It won't be long before you can run 10km without stopping.  And if you do it gradually, you'll be picking up the distance and staying at 10min/miles and that's a 1 hour 10k.  Ace!

  14. Well done Scorge.  The most important thing is finishing in one piece.  Lots of positives to be taken from that.  Running strong and injury free being the main ones.

Did Moose walk it in the end?  I don't know Moose's actual name so can't stalk his time.
