  6. Saturday 30th June

    We are happy to reveal our special guest for the end of this month...

    The in demand Freak N Chic & Cecille producer Alex Celler comes to Aberdeen for the first time.

    alex-celler-interview.jpg

    A Greek national by right but a Londoner by choice, Alex’s distinctive DJ style hints towards an obsessive attitude to crate digging – playing out an impressive blend of rare, old and modern tracks, his precise intuition for the right record on the dance floor mirrors his own love of the party atmosphere.

    Durable productions and mood-changing DJ sets have seen Alex feature as guest around the globe at respected parties at Ibiza's Underground, DC10, Amnesia and Space as well as others including Trouw (Amsterdam), Studio Martin (Bucharest), Arma 17 (Moscow), Amnesia (Milan) and at home in London - where he has become a main player in the city’s underground house scene, guesting regularly at Fabric.

    Advanced tickets are on sale from Resident Advisor & our facebook ticket app.

    === WiLDKATS ===

    (Hot Creations/Get Physical/Lower East)

    Mix for UGroove – September 2011: http://soundcloud.com/wildkats/groovecast-014-wildkats-inside

    WiLDKATS are a production collective formed in East London when Edinburgh DJ’s Stuart Sandeman & Scott Dickie met US import Corey Baker. After sharing ideas over a booming warehouse bass bin they decided to get into the studio. Pulling influences from 80s Funk and New York Disco they began to develop their sound; an energetic combination of groove led house and dubby disco with their trademark WiLDKATS bass-line. WiLDKATS are part of a new movement in contemporary house music fusing 80s drums, synths and bass sounds, putting their own funked up stamp on this with their catchy edits and raw dance floor killers.

    Since their inception in summer 2010 their tracks have quickly caught the attention of some of the biggest names in the dance music community. Support has come from Hot Natured, Wolf + Lamb, Crosstown Rebels, Lee Curtiss, Droog, Jamie Jones, M A N I K and Soul Clap, all of whom have tried and tested WiLDKATS’ tracks across some of the globes most prolific dance floors including Sonar, Burning Man, Glastonbury and Ibiza’s mecca DC10.

    2011 proved to be WiLDKATS’ year, with big releases on various imprints. ‘System Crank’ (with Russ Yallop) on Hot Creations created quite a stir across the dance community and received notary kudos as the Essential Tune Contender on the UK’s Radio One show. Upon hearing the quality of their releases and after their Hot Waves track ‘Perpetrating’ climbed to number 2 in the Beatport charts, the Hot Creations crew have also given them the rare opportunity to put out their own Hot Creations EP in early 2012. This is something that only a handful of talented artists have been asked to do. There are also upcoming releases on Get Physical, Stranjjur, Lower East and Neim.

    As DJs, the boys can play as a full production trio or as a duo act, and their trademark funked up sleazy bass-lines are guaranteed to get any dance floor grooving. As a result, the WiLDKATS busy touring schedule has recently included gigs up and down the UK, Ibiza, the US and Mexico.

    === Bigfoot's Tea Party ===

    For nearly three years the Bigfoot show has been taking Scotland by storm. Regular outings at Snafu and Sub Club have been complimented by outdoor riverside parties, infamous off-radar warehouse gatherings and mind bending visual displays. Snafu just wouldn't be the same without them.

    Their exhilarating RockNess performance last year alongside Ivan Smagghe meant we had to ask them back, so Bigfoot returns to do battle with Nessie as celebrated residents Wrick and Christopher Kelly fly in to give us a flavour of the Tea Party’s many sides, while visual artist Redux squeezes in beside them.

    === Fuad ===

    Fuad is one of the most hotly tipped producers from the North East in years. His early work on Auntie Flo artist Esa Mervin Granger’s celebrated label Rememory Music (also home to Affi Koman, Subb-an, OOFT!) was greeted with widespread praise. Hype around the young man seems to build monthly, just drop in to Snafu on a Saturday night to catch his warm, dance floor focused sets and you’ll find out why. Only 22 years old and already a veteran of RockNess and T in The Park, Fuad is sure to deliver us all those perfect summertime vibes.

    === Krazzy Martin ===

    A key member of Aberdeen’s clubbing community, KRAZZY MARTIN has staged some of the North’s most legendary parties in recent years. So he’ll be right at home at RockNess!

    His Everything Else Sucks parties have brought Mele, Zombie Nation, Jackmaster and Drop The Lime to the Granite City for the first time. No event would be complete without his smile behind the turntables, expect him to kick the tent off in style on a journey that could go anywhere.

    Our Saturday residents read like a who's who of UK house and techno, hand picked from the best clubs around. Stretford Dogs Club, Tricky, Wrick, Fuad, Si Smith and Greg Gibb go side by side with house, tech and disco DJs that we feel will bring something extra special to Aberdeen.

    In the past this has ranged from Theo Parrish - Optimo - Dyed Soundorom - Sebo K - Eats Everything - Fabrizio Maurizi. No one with an interest in good music or good people should be anywhere else on a Saturday night

    This summer's Saturdays also feature...

    (Auntie Flo)

    Tricky (Sunday Circus)

    Ali OOFT

    Stretford Dogs Club

    James Fox

    Alex Celler

    + one or two more still to be revealed. Click the artist names above for live recordings

    NOMINATED - SCOTTISH ALBUM OF THE YEAR -

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-17702509

    Currently being championed by the BBC, this is the sparkling debut album from a young rock band with distinct Afro-Scottish influences – unsurprising given that they come from Edinburgh and their lead-guitarist was taught to play by his counterpart in the legendary Bhundu Boys.

    On the day of release the album reached an amazing Number 24 in the itunes ‘Alternative’ charts and the controversial video for ‘Two Bridges’ is now racking up thousands of plays on Youtube.

    Using a grant from ‘Creative Scotland’, the album was recorded at Chem 19 with award-winning producer Paul Savage at the controls, then mastered by Noel Summerville – previously known for his work with The Clash, The White Stripes and the Bhundu Boys.

    The band’s curious moniker was derived from the title of a 1956 feature film set in an Indian railway town – whilst the label name is the result of a deranged axeman attacking one of their gigs.

    Ever generous, the lads give away ‘train tickets’ at every show – each one featuring quirky artwork by band members or their hardcore fans (now known as ‘The Queensferry Contingent’).

    bwani.jpg

    “The resulting mix was utterly endearing and flawlessly executed by a young band so obviously happy just be playing together. Not only refreshing to hear but a joy to watch.” The Herald

    “Afro-beat somersaults, duelling guitar solos and swaggering, tumbling drums… these guys have tunes and they aren’t afraid to use them. Be afraid!” Artrocker

    “Dazzlingly good… this country will surely produce few better in 2011.” The List
