I'm just back from seeing The Fall at The Electric Frog, Glasgow.
Yet another stunning performance - by far the best band on the bill.
The news tracks are sounding brilliant - the track Monocard, in particular, seems destined to be a future classic.
-
The Hare and the Moon would probably fit into this category, and are definitely worth checking out. They're on the same label as us, actually.

Do Circulus count? They were brilliant when they played at the Tunnels in 2006. (There were only about 10 people there, though.)
-
Oh, and this is quite brilliant:
Wild Billy Childish & The Musicians Of The British Empire – In Blood
(The spotify title is wrong, incidentally. It's actually Billy Childish and Holly Golightly)

Listening to this at the moment:

It's definitely about time Aberdeen Music had a thread dedicated to the mighty Fall.
Anyway, I'll kick things off by posting a song from the forthcoming album Ersatz GB, due to be released 7/11/11. This is Cosmos:

The Cramps - Flamejob
Have you seen the Live at Napa State Mental Hospital DVD?
It's possibly one of the best live music DVDs ever.

I noticed that the Romanian woman has started singing as well.
She's very good, actually - her intonation and phrasing are very reminiscent of Damo Suzuki.
-
This is quite good as well:
Gorilla Rose by Kid Congo & the Pink Monkey Birds on Spotify
Kid Congo has a rather impressive CV - having played with The Gun Club, The Cramps and The Bad Seeds.

Listening to this at the moment:
Badlands by Dirty Beaches on Spotify
It has a sort of Lynchian feel to it.

Snide Rhythms:
From Edinburgh, but with Banff connections.

a bit like the hoff
anywhere i can have a wee listen?
Those Germans have impeccable taste.
The tracks from the debut ep are on our myspace page: Palace of Swords | Free Music, Tour Dates, Photos, Videos
And here's the vid for our track The Black Lodge Will Rise Again:

I love a tape like. how did you go about getting featured on a german only cassette??
Our debut ep received quite a lot of radio play over there, so it came from that, really.
I think we're probably more popular in Germany than we are in Scotland, to be honest.
-
I was there too... a fine night!
Yes, it was a fine night.
A Proustian recollection: on the track Suicide, Pete Kember used a bent cigarette to jam a note down on his keyboard - thus obtaining the required drone effect.
-
gigs, releases.... oh yes please
Thanks Free Tibet.
We've two releases in the pipeline - although we don't really want to say too much until everything is sorted out.
-
Please don't ruin things by getting these tracks 'properly' recorded.
-
Cassettes are a brilliant format. The sound quality is often surprisingly good as well.
It's also interesting to note that quite a few smaller labels have started releasing music on cassette again - definitely an encouraging development!
(We've had a track featured on the German cassette-only release Don't Drop It In The Dustbin Vol 2)
-
I can remember seeing them (Spacemen 3) at the Station Hotel, 1989.
They played the track Revolution twice in their set, I think.

Palace of Swords are also featured on Don Campau's LUVer.com radio show this month.
Here's a link: LUVeR - Love Underground Visionary Revolution - streaming audio video station
[We've decided not to mention radio play etc after this as people are probably getting a bit bored with it. We'll still post news concerning gigs, releases and other developments, though.]

Some of my fave covers...
the Fall 'Victoria' 'I can hear the grass grow' and many others
I would say that I'm a Mummy is probably The Fall's best cover.

More radio play on WFMU, New Jersey.
I am Peter the Hermit (Part 2) and The White Goddess (Part1) were both played on today's This Is The Modern World with Trouble. (Another great show, incidentally - definitely worth checking out)
Listen or download here: Playlist for This Is The Modern World with Trouble - August 2, 2011

New Jersey DJ Liz Berg played our track I am Peter the Hermit (Part 2) on her WFMU radio show today.
The show (which we would highly recommend) is available to listen or download from here:

We're on No Pigeonholes again this week - Deer Park this time.
The whole show is available to listen or download here: PodOmatic | Podcast - No Pigeonholes
[There's also some exciting Palace of Swords news in the pipeline - watch this space!]

It's also available as a podcast. Here's a link:

I thought that it might be a good idea to start a Krautrock recommendations thread on Aberdeen Music.
Anyway, I'd like to start off by recommending the fantastic La Dusseldorf:
(This must be one of the coolest television appearances ever, surely?)
