  1. As far as I'm lead to believe most people start bands to have fun and make some music. You achieve those two things you're not failing as you're doing what you set out to do.

Tom's battle of the bands gigs have been pretty well attended from what I've heard. There was more folk at the heat we played than gigs we've played supporting out of town bands that are reasonably well known. Personally I think it's a great thing Tom's doing. He's getting people down to gigs and promoting a heap of new musicians and bands from Aberdeen. GBOL.

  2. I put Stroopy's telephablet number up on the toilet wall in Downstairs and if you phone him he's obliged to sing at least one Needleman song to you on the phone.

Someone has scrawled "For ten pounds I will suck your..." before his name and number.

Caused mass confusion on Thursday night.

  3. Well 4 weeks into the SCaT session class and I feel like I've improved considerably compared to the first week. I've been practicing more than any time since I moved out of the parental home. I'm now pretty comfortable learning tunes from sheet music (in the first position) and am much quicker learning the parts by ear in the class. Going to try and pick up a couple of books of fiddle tunes at the weekend to give me some more sheet music to learn from.

One thing I've really noticed though is that sitting in a class with 7 fiddlers, some of whom come from a classical background, really shows up the deficiencies in bits of my technique. Lots to work on!

Did a rough mobile recording of one of the tunes we've been working on in the class. A waltz by Hamish Napier - Minerva Street:

I was hoping for a waltz verison of Minerva by Deftones.

    Sounding good though!

  4. I recently picked up one of those Danelectro Fab Tone distortion pedals from the 90's for pennies off eBay. It is fucking amazing. It's the loudest thing in existence. I actually got a scare when I first stepped on it with everything set at 12 o clock. All the volume.

I can't really describe the tone but it's a winner. Muff like but with more high end and decent mids.

I've also got my hands on a Way Huge Swollen Pickle but I need to have a fiddle about with it before I can report back on it. Initial thoughts are it's a bit muddy but apparently you can tweak some internal trim pots to sort that out.
