  1. Snafu presents Running every Tuesday like clockwork, the Snafu Comedy Club has managed to carve itself a wee niche in the ever-busy weekday-things-to-do-that-arent-clubbing market, which before it came along primarily consisted of going to the cinema, going bowling, or getting tanked on top of the St Nicholas centre. All of which are great in their own right, but lets face it, theres only so many films to see, only so many strikes to hit and only so many times you can get blind drunk outside WH Smith and wake up at 3 in the morning with your house keys missing and half your eye-brow shaved off (true story). Fortunately, there is a never ending supply of funny people. Every week the organisers of the snafu comedy club trawl the national comedy circuit to find those funny people, lures them up north and then watches as a group of punters split their side in the ONLY weekly comedy club in Aberdeen. With a constantly rotating line-up that reads like a whos-who of local and national talent, its easy to see why the club has received universally great write-ups and near-constant capacity crowds. Ok, so It sounds good but surely a comedy night with big names must break the bank? Nah pal. Its 4 EVERY week, regardless of whether theyre a national sell-out act or a local guy trying to supplement his dole cheque. To make it even sweeter, students get in for 2. 2! What night-out can you think of that gives you a whole evenings banter for just 2? I mean for that you can only catch 1/3 of a film, play just half a game of bowling and afford just half a bottle of cider probably for the best, that one though. Nobody wants to lose an eyebrow Check out SnafuComedy on MySpace Comedy - Comic Clips, Funny Videos & Jokes for upcoming listings!

  3. THE DEEP END PRESENTS JESSE ROSE // SATURDAY 14TH NOVEMBER // 10PM-3AM // SNAFU Widely accepted as one of the most innovative house DJs about, Jesse Rose has formed an enviable niche for himself in the dance music world. Being raised in London on an upbringing of motown, soul, jazz and funk might not seem like the most obvious beginning for a house DJ, but Jesse claims it was this unconventional upbringing and interaction with similarly minded folks that ultimately benefited his deep rooted passion for electronic music one such influence was Jamie Anderson with whom Jesse moved to Bristol with. The duo soon started DJing and throwing club nights, homing in on their particular sound of Chicago house mixed with early Detroit Techno. By the mid nineties Jesse had already earned a reputation for solid sets across the 4/4 spectrum and it was around this time that those influences and ideas were finally cemented and Jesse began producing. As well as his own production slate, which includes the massive A-sided on Dubsided, Jesse has remixed the likes of Riton, Radio Slave, Elite Force, Kosma & Trevor Loveys to name a few. Jesse can also be found producing alongside Dave Taylor AKA Solid Groove/Switch under the guises of Induceve on Derrick Carters Classic label. This year Jesse released his first exclusively solo album What do you do if you dont? which featured collaborations with big hitters like Hot Chip and David E. Sugar. Its popularity has ensured that an already busy DJ is even more in-demand. The more fanatical of you lot may remember that Jesse was all booked up to play Snafu last year, but thanks to a very tardy airline he ended up missing his flight entirely. We were gutted. Fortunately, this just meant that we had a whole years worth of expectation that he had to meet when he finally plays for us. You know what? He may just pull it off ADV TICKETS 7 AVAILABLE NOW HERE, and at E.A.R.L, Attic and One-Up in the coming days. JESSE ROSE SNAFU

  5. edit-select presents SLAM w/ TONY SCOTT // SNAFU // 6TH NOVEMBER In December 2008, SLAM put together the 10 years of Pressure CD for Mixmag to celebrate the 10th birthday of their Pressure club in Glasgow. Earlier in the year the SOMA label bosses released volume 5 in the Mix CD series Sci-Fi Hi-Fi, following on from Luciano, Ewan Pearson, Alex Smoke and Funk D Void. SLAM delivered a heady blend of forward-thinking, mind-bending organic, groovy techno. A real journey starting with their trademark deep, spacey sonic tones and building in intensity throughout the mix, taking in influences from minimal to Latin beats and even some disco. The mix included tracks from some of the new Soma artists, as well as 2 exclusive Slam tracks from their new 12 inch label, Paragraph. Paragraph Recordings was launched by SLAM in December 08 as an outlet for their darker, stripped back techno. Orde and Stuart felt it was a good time to have a label to focus on their own output so they could define the sound completely. After the success of City Destroyer, SLAM follow-up with what has been described as their biggest dance-floor track since Positive Education. Hot Knives was originally composed for SLAMs live shows while touring clubs and festivals last summer, but after a realising the potential of the track, it was quickly adapted for release. Paragraph 2 also features Whats On Your Mind, which featured on SLAMs Sci-Fi Hi-Fi CD. SLAMs classic, Positive Education also makes an appearance in 2009 with remixes coming in from man-of-the-moment, Paul Ritch along with DJulz, Tim Green & Fergie. The reactions and requests for the tracks have already been pouring into the Soma office without the tracks even being promod. Due out in May 09 - these re-works will be massive! 6. THE DIRTY HEARTS CLUB LIVE PRESENTS THE TWELVES // THURSDAY 10th December // SNAFU Without a doubt The Twelves are one of the best production duos to have emerged from the blogs, their breakthrough came in July of 2007 when they remixed the track "Boyz" from M.I.A's sophomore album, Kala. The reworked track with an added club feel resulted in one of the most talked about remixes of 2007. The blog coverage surrounding the remix was extensive and eventually the track started to appear in sets from high profile djs around the world, including Kissy Sell Out, who played it on BBC's "In New Djs We Trust" series. The duo followed "Boyz" with equally well received remixes for Asobi Seksu and Erlend Oye, both of which featured on a number of blogs and music related sites. This caught the attention of a number of labels, including Modular Records who commissioned a "Twelves Remix" of the song "Get Lucky" by New Young Pony Club. This year has been a very successful one for The Twelves, they were most recently commissioned to remix big name tracks such as La Rouxs "In For The Kill", A-Has "Take On Me", Groove Armada's "Drop the Tough" and Metrics "Help I'm Alive". They also did a mini-mix for the BBC Radio 1 show, Annie Macs Mash-up, it was so well received that they have been invited back to do another one at some point in the year. Their success on the blog scene has been phenomenal this year, their cover of Daft Punks "Night Vision" being number 1 on the Hype Machine on four separate occasions along with their Mini-Mix and the remix of A-Ha which also topped their charts. The Twelves productions are always a constant force in the Hype Machine charts, such is the massive fan base they have in the online world they have amassed an astonishing 1.7 million plays on their myspace player too. They played SXSW, with Spin Magazine making them one of their nine unknown acts to watch at the event, they are making their UK debut at this years prestigious LoveBox event and are making their debut at Paris legendary Social Club. Their live show is a one of a kind unique blend of live keyboards, drum machines, mash-ups and remixing on the fly. 7. THE DIRTY HEARTS CLUB LIVE PRESENTS BRONTO SKY LIFT and DORMANT FIGURE // THURSDAY 26th November // SNAFU Bronto Skylift - 'their live show can be regarded as a treat in itself' 'a surprise assault on the senses. Staying just this side of chaos isn't an easy task, you know' The Skinny 26/11/08 'Edinburgh finally gets with the programme (6 Dec) when Def-Con One visit Bannerman's, featuring ex-members of the surely-infamous Venom. They're also ably supported on this occasion by native two-piece Bronto Skylift, plying their cantankerous noise with increasingly assured confidence.' BBC INTRODUCING with Annie McGuire 08/01/09 'just two chaps making an awful lot of noise...' Review of 16/2/09 Parts & Labor support by MalkyB 'Bronto Skylift took a firmer grip of my heart, albeit through my throat, with a set that damaged my trust in all things not Bronto.' The Skinny 25/02/09 'What with the fashionable rise of happy-clappy dross la the Knack-pilfering Ting Tings in recent times, its not often a two-piece like Bronto Skylift, for all their visceral intensity, are afforded the good will they need to progress. However, half an hour spent in the company of this savage drum n guitar combo reveals an undeniable, primal appeal. Certainly, Eagle/Falcon is a satisfying appetiser; the jarring riffs and powerhouse drumming by turns tastefully recollecting Helmet and The Bronx. But live - where flailing arms and precise jazz-fills leave jaws on the floor - you will find this band on fire. 9. THE DIRTY HEARTS CLUB LIVE PRESENTS SHUTTER and CAST OF THE CAPITAL and CALLEL// THURSDAY 12th November // SNAFU Shutter - Whilst indebted to legends in the field such as Mogwai and Slint Shutter have a clear metal edge, a sign that some Highlanders like their Sabbath to be Black. Their set in The Doghouse was well received by an audience more used to the latest skinny jean clad sensation. With orchestral guitars plunging into one another, Shutter begin to resemble Wagner with a touch of feedback. Gonorth review - This Is Music Though their presence is understated and they barely look up throughout their set, they regularly set the stage alight throughout their all-too-brief half hour of Pelican-flavoured post-rock. This high standard, by which many of tonights other performers will inevitably be measured against, leaves little wonder as to why Deftones snared them for a support slot in recent times. The drums arrive fierce and accurate, adeptly penetrating the clear, layered, dual guitar assault as and when the crescendos rise and warble out. Theres effortless synchronicity at play here, and the tools to beat away the boredom that too often dogs the genre are firmly in Shutters possession Cast Of the Capital - Cast Of The Capital formed during summer 2006. Consisting of brothers Matt and Steve Morris, Jamie Watt and Ally Naylor, they are a band from Aberdeen (Scotland) which plays indie music. They enjoy playing rock shows, travelling and meeting friendly people! Their first official EP will be released through Kittiwake Records in 2009. 11. THE DIRTY HEARTS CLUB LIVE PRESENTS Ono Palindromes and Indian Red Lopez // THURSDAY 22nd OCTOBER // SNAFU Ono Palindromes - Ok so here's the deal, it recently became clear to us that the contemporary music scene in both the mainstream and the underground sense was lacking. Nothing seemed to speak to us, lyrically and musically things seemed so vacuous and vague. Music seems to be concerned with preparation for adverts/ dayime radio or even (worse still) for knowingly cool statements to be casually spat out for the hip things who dominate the grass roots scene. This is a new beginning... Where we give up our moderate success so far to offer something with passion, anger, without compromise... Something which hopefully can relate to you, something to believe in, something where we are not afraid to take the piss out of the world around us... And ourselves! Lets kick out the same old shit... Indian Red Lopez is an idea conceived from everything and nothing at all. They make electronic/rock/dance/alternative/indie music and want to make you dance with conviction. Pre-club party upstairs in Five for some cheeky discount passes! 12. THE DIRTY HEARTS CLUB LIVE PRESENTS ROSS CLARK AND WASHINGTON IRVING // THURSDAY 8th OCTOBER // SNAFU Glasgow native Ross Clark has been a familiar name on the Scottish music scene for a couple of years, bringing to it a nice Tennessee whiskey-barreled and brewed twang laced with his own top shelf spirits. Now with a conglomeration of talented folksters at his side ('The Scarfs...'), a tour extending south of the border and a tasty new album to boot, 2009 is looking sweet for the bespectacled country soul. Washington Irving are indie-folk-pop group from the city of Glasgow in Scotland. Their music is a blend of Celtic and Eastern European folk but at same time gloriously indie-pop. Featuring six members, including a flautist and mandolin player, they are slowly building up recognition around Scotland. Catch them here before they make it big! All these ideas and sounds have been distilled down into the current project, Raudive. The sound of raudive takes the percussion of his earlier releases and mutates it into a slower deep sound, fusing the funk of house and the electronics of techno.
