  1. Quoted for truth

Yep, I would say he is right enough but there is usually a reason for it. Big bands don't come cheap and I would imagine that a lot of promoters try to book the bands that bring the most kids in to try recoup the costs as much as possible. It's getting the balance right that is the key I think. I'd hate for one of my favourite bands to come and end up with no crowd as all the kids leave when their mates band finishes.

I hope you don't think that about this support line up. I'm very, very happy with it. Announced in an hour or so once I get final details done!

  2. Sneakily ask them to just play for as long as possible (hopefully with the headlining European Tour they will have rehearsed lots of songs!). I'd rather have more of them than loads of the usual local -core bands who play on most vaguely 'metal' bills.

Glasgow gets them supporting Earthtone 9 (sadly the day before my dissertation is due in), and mainland Europe gets Intronaut (who are amazing!) supporting The Ocean. Life's not fair sometimes!

Sadly I didn't get the option to book any of them two tour packages. Both would have been great! :(

I will have support bands (unfortunately for you) but I'm trying not to have the same old same old people come to expect. The band themselves expressed they would like quite a varied line up rather than the "power metal support" they seem to get elsewhere. Hopefully you dig some of it dude. It should be a great night.

    ----INFO----

Fresh from supporting The Dillinger Escape Plan on their European tour at the end of 2010, 2011 is set to be a huge year for Metal Blade/Pelagic Records band The Ocean Collective. The German melodic metallers will be hitting the road in the UK as main support for earthone9 on their comeback dates immediately after supporting Between The Buried & Me in the US, and before heading out on a mainland European headline tour, the guys will put on a spectacle at Aberdeen's The Tunnels. Do not miss out.

    ----PR----

Five silhouettes, their backlit bodies moving frenetically in front of the monstrous LED lighting rigs, flashing synchronized to every little change in the music: watching THE OCEAN perform live is an experience. The videos, the lighting and more than anything, the music - orchestral, dense and epic - all contribute to that certain atmosphere that sets THE OCEAN apart from most of their peers in the realm of modern day's heavy music. The lynch-esque play with darkness and dynamics make it easy for the listener to get lost in the dismal oceanic spheres. Oceanland, before the band was evicted from the place in 2008.

    ----REVIEWS----

"Epic in scope and flawless in execution, 'Precambrian' reinforces The Ocean as one of the most exciting names in modern heavy music. Behold mind-blowing metal on a wagnerian scale" - ROCKSOUND (UK)

"Ambitious and epic, dense and orchestral, the latest album from Germany's premier thinking man's metal collective The Ocean features a dizzying array of musical and vocal styles, from Mastodonian prog jags and Fear Factory jackhammer blasts to ethereal electronics and florid classical instrumentations" - AMP (USA)

"engrossing to the point where words don't necessarily matter. The Ocean do for earth science class what Mastodon did for Melville: make learning brutal" - DECIBEL (USA)

  4. Compared to Sonisphere, this line up is so pathetic. I mean, Def Leppard only headlined two years ago and dont even appeal to the same kind of crowd the other bands in the bill appeal to, so it just stinks of sheer desperation to me.

Linkin Park too. Donington must be sick of them by now. So, so poor.

  5. Yo guys, we are putting on a wee gig at Cafe Drummonds next month. Check it out if you're interested! Info is below! This Sudden Injury are awesome and you can download their EP for free at the link at the bottom of the post.

    -- Official Press Release --

Coming all the way from Ipswich to collide with some of Aberdeen and Glasgows most exciting underground acts are This Sudden Injury and A Fate Untold. The English pop punk / post hardcore acts will be sharing a stage with headliners on the night, Search Party, and other great Scottish bands; 11:11 and theWETFLEX.

This is going to be a great, diverse night of proper Daily Dischord endorsed rock music and you really shouldn't be missing out. 5 a ticket means you are getting to see a band for a quid. That's less than a pint! Check out individual articles on the bands below and buy your tickets now.

First up on a stellar line up is Aberdeens very own theWETFLEX, a band who effortlessly power through a set like they've been playing together for years. Focussing on entertaining the crowd with their technical off-kilter pop rock music, along with between-song banter, these guys will be sure to kick things off in the best of fashion. Do not miss theWETFLEX. If they can't put a smile on your face, you're dead inside.

"The four band members make things look completely effortless and I would pay good money to see these guys again. A technically gifted band who write great songs to compliment their musical prowess." - Review of theWETFLEX

A Fate Untold are one of the two touring English bands on the line up. Hailing from Ipswich, the pop punk quartet will be touring the UK after hitting the studio to record some songs with producer Matt O'Grady (Don Broco, Deaf Havana). The band excel in blasting out powerful pop punk tunes and have been seen hitting the stage in Ipswich with the aforementioned bands, Mexico Falls, Me Vs Hero, and many more. Don't miss out on what will be an energetic set from these guys.

Aberdeens very own 11:11 (Eleven Eleven) will be sandwiched between the two touring bands, offering a well crafted slice of post hardcore which has been evolving steadily since the inclusion of a second guitarist. The quintet have been playing plenty gigs around the local circuit after the release of their Daily Dischord approved debut EP "Memoirs Part 1", and if you like your post hardcore loaded with emotion, their is no better band out there to satisfy your needs.

"Peterhead post-hardcore quartet 11:11s debut EP is an unquestionably solid first foot on the ladder. Passionately delivered and full to bursting with stadium-sized melodies, its a collection thats by turns ambient, anthemic and bludgeoning, and if nothing else, its likely to keep you interested enough to see what comes next from them." - Review of 11:11's debut EP "Memoirs Part One"

The second of our touring bands will be Ipswich based This Sudden Injury. The quartet have only been playing for what is just over a year now and already have cemented a solid fan base in their native town, impressing the masses with their pop tinged post-hardcore. The bands EP "Ghosts" is available to download for free and if you are a fan of Polar bear Club, you quite simply cannot miss This Sudden Injury. Check out the EP and if you like, join the band in their first ever Aberdeen date!

"Coming across as the bastard son of Polar Bear Club and Taking Back Sunday, these five young upstarts have produced a debut EP to be proud of, one that bristles with energy anddare I say itemotion." - Review of debut EP "Ghosts"

Finishing the night off is Daily Dischord's very good friends in Glasgows Search Party. These guys are no stranger to the Aberdeen scene, recently supporting While She Sleeps in one of Daily Dischord's previous gigs. Search Party have been playing their southern influenced hardcore since 2008 and have played up and down the country with some of the genres heavy weights in Dead Swans, This Is Colour, Doomriders (Deathwish Inc), Deez Nuts and so many more. Be sure to catch our Glaswegian wrap up a very special night of some of Daily Dischord's favourite underground bands of the UK. You can download the bands EP for free below!

  6. I've been twice and have no problems whatsoever. I've always got along well with neighbouring campers and will be going back again this year. I just got back from the launch event in Glasgow. Needless to say, Mr Ellis came across to be genuinely excited about the line up. I think it's the best T has had in a long time.

  7. Hey peeps.

Thanks to everyone that signed up. Hopefully over time we will have some stuff that will interest you. The first newsletter went out this morning. If any of you had problems, like the email going into spam (might want to check if it hasn't arrived!), just let me know here!

  8. Why do so many bands have Hitler flick hairdos? Have I just noticed this phenomenom, or has it has been ongoing for ages

I only wonder because there was a band full of them on yer page, so I had to axe.

I don't like how bands look just now, they all look either utterly effete or like Neil Young roadies.

I must agree with you dude, although I tend not to care much for what a band looks like, rather how they perform and sound. Don't be fooled by what's on the slider at the moment, that shit changes every couple of days. Yesterday you would have found Mogwai and Japanese Voyeurs there!

    Seems cool, shall sign up!

If I make a submission, would you prefer a hard copy or would you want me to host tracks somewhere for you to download them from instead?

Yo dude, a digital copy would be brilliant. I prefer physical copies because I'm old school like that but I'm getting so much stuff, it's easier now to organise it digitally!

Thanks to everyone that signs up. It is seriously appreciated. We are starting a radio show for Sub City Radio in Glasgow soon too which means we will release a podcast each week. Very busy times ahead!

  9. Hey guys,

Just a quick plug here for anyone who is interested. I run a website called Daily Dischord that reviews albums and (loads of Aberdeen) gigs, interviews many bands, covers a few of the big festivals and does a hell of a lot more.

If this doesn't interest you, close now!

Basically I'm posting here just to let you all know that I have a newsletter feature now that will be sent every Monday to notify all subscribed users about our latest reviews, interviews, articles and news so if you are a passive kind of user to these things, it might be cool to sign up. We won't be spamming you and all you will get are emails on Mondays, or whenever we book a gig, we will probably send you announcements for that too.

If it interests you, go over to the homepage (linked below) and enter your email address in the newsletter section (please look in spam for confirmation email).

    Thanks guys.

  10. Cheers guys - appreciate the kind words, and also Liam for the write up. Dunno what happened with my guitar to be honest, wouldn't hold it's tune at all and there was a new set of strings snapping and all sorts - just one of those gigs I suppose...

We're doing Drummonds tomorrow night with the awesome Absolutist so fingers crossed that things go a little smoother this time.

Would be good to see you there if you fancy it?

    Cheers,

    Rob (Crooked Little Vein)

Hey dude, I responded to your PM and answered your questions in that!

  11. I tend to ask for guestlist places when reviewing touring bands, but if it's a local gig I usually pay - I know a lot of local shows are put on by bands, or payment is dependent on ticket sales, so I don't want to make them out of pocket.

Aye, pretty much on the same boat as you mate.
