  12. Li'l Jimmy Reed + Wolftrain, Sun 31 May, doors 7.30pm, 10+bf Born Leon Atkins outside Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in the late 1930s, a love of the blues was developed and fostered early in life. Working odd jobs here and there he was given his first proper guitar in his teens. Never once taking a music lesson, Leon had a natural musical ability and an imbedded affinity to the blues. Literally overnight becoming an excellent blues guitarist, he soon taught himself to play mouth organ as well. When he turned 18 he moved to Little Ark, Louisiana, to attend Barber College, but spent alot of his time in the the local juke joints and blues alleys, playing to and winning over the locals whenever he got a chance. Then one night at a more upscale blues venue Leon got his break. At the time Jimmy Reed was one of the big names on the blues circuit - Leon had been a big fan ever since hearing him for the first time on jukeboxes in his home town - and a packed venue waited for him to take to the stage. As Leon vividly recalls, Jimmy Reed had a few too many before the show and was just too drunk to go onstage. The promoters snuck the star out the back door and pushed Leon onto the stage. The young man played an absolute blinder, the crowd neither noticed the difference nor cared - Li'l Jimmy Reed was born! Ever since that fateful night, Li'l Jimmy Reed and his Blues Band have taken their powerful, feel-good Louisiana blues across the world, amazing audiences with his musical talent and his charisma as a performer. Support on the night comes from Scots blues band Wolftrain. Tickets available from Aberdeen Box Office, phone 01224 641122.

  17. Howard Elliot Payne + special guests, Tues 9 June, doors 8.30pm, 5+bf In anticipation of his first solo release, Bright Light Ballads, the founder member of The Big Kids and The Stands hits the road. Very much in the tradition of Brit rockers such as Paul Weller and Oasis (both Gallaghers are big admirers), Liverpool-based Payne has been garnering much critical and commercial acclaim over the last year. Tickets available from Aberdeen Box Office, phone 01224 641122
  18. Teitur + special guests, Mon 8 June, doors 8pm, 7+bf The Faroe Island's leading musical export, Teitur's haunting vocals, subtle melodies and understated production are as influenced by other "Northern Lights" acts such as Bjork, Sigur Ros and mum as they are the films of Ingmar Bergman - incidentally he actually now lives on the same island as the late film maker. Although on the scene for a number of years now, it is his fourth album 'The Singer' released earlier this year that has really brought his incredible talents to a wider audience, receiving universal praise and critical acclaim. "Teitur writes story songs of immense beauty, they reverberate with an elegiac poignancy and emotion that move the listener with an almost wilting intensity. The influences are diverse, the lyrics stand alone as startling poetry, such is his ability as a storyteller and they recall the Russian greats Chekhov, Tolstoy, Bulgakov, but also American writers like Richards Brautigan and Yates, as he deals with the mundanity and absurdity of everyday life and captures the humour and bleakness in the human condition inside his verse. Musically his vision is equally ambitious; at times he reminds of the dramatic instrumentation of a Krzystof Komeda score or a soundtrack to an Ingmar Bergman film. The Singer is the first evidence of an extraordinary talent about to delicately land upon our shores." Teitur on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads Tickets available from Aberdeen Box Office, phone 01224 641122
  19. Bourbon creams or chocolate-covered Hob Nobs/Digestives?

  21. 8 for a Blue Lamp gig may seem a little on the pricey side, but this will be a tremendous show. Belleruche are absolutely sublime, and with the powerhouse group Super Six Funk Machine in support AND DJ sets from qb-C and Reknology of Az-I Cool this is well worth the entrance fee and a fling on a school night!
  22. TONIGHT! These guys are brilliant, well worth catching. And with Smokin' Catfish on the bill it is set to be a great night of music.
