  1. I think All Hope Is Gone is fantastic- uncompromisingly heavy, powerful and just really bloody nuts.

Psychosocial on the other hand is a mixed bag- I actually quite like the chorus, and the solo/breakdownesque section is pretty swish, but overall it's nothing special. Oh, and the "PSYCHOSOCIAL" bit following the chorus just sounds really cheesy I find.

  2. It's all been a bit vague when it comes to this place (the website was, and presumably still is just a massive infoless tease). Did it look like it was near to opening? From the above thread it sounds like an interesting place, but that was over a year ago...

  3. Daniel Merriweather was one of the guests (bloke who sings "Stop Me"), but that was all I caught.

I too am keen to find out the identity of the two decent rappers (the one with those orange shades) so if anyone knows spill the beanz yo...

  4. Spunge are one of the most embarassing bands I've ever seen live, and I wish I'd sat outside during their set. Has anyone got a copy of the picture of their setlist, with the bits written between the song titles, telling the band members what to do, like "spray beer on the crowd" and even telling them when to take a drink themselves.

    Classic.

Ha ha ha ha ha. That's brilliant, especially considering the tune most people remember them by being called "Jump on Demand" (which I've been listening to this fine summer day).

  5. So what's the verdict? I was a tad dubious about spending such an amount when I'm not a mega-fan, but good grief- what a show! Ronson proved to be a real treat in my opinion, whilst Jay-Z certainly delivered the goods. Shame they couldn't have lowered the ticket price from the offset- presumably the reason half the venue was curtained off.

  6. GUITARS

    Blackmachine custom

    Gibson Explorer

    Jackson 10XD

    Ibanez SZ720

    EFFECTS

    Maxon OD808 Overdrive

    Boss NS2 Noise Supressor

    Boss TU2 Tuner

    Ibanez DE7 Delay

    Boss GE7 Graphic Equaliser

Roland MIDI footswitch controller (for VH4)

    AMPS

    Diezel VH4

    Peavey 6505

Mesa 4x12 oversized cab (with V30 speakers)

I have some other stuff but the above is the gear I use live.

Blackmachine guitars look incredible- what model exactly do you have and how much did it set you back, if you don't mind me asking?

  7. Guitars:

    Gibson Flying V

Washburn WI65 (looks ridiculously 'rawk d00d' but is in fact one of the most versatile guitars I've come across)

    Garrison acoustic

    Couple of old classicals

    Pedals:

    Ibanez CF7 Chorus/Flanger

    Boss DD-6 Delay

    Digitech Death Metal Distortion

Also the Dean V I've been trying to sell on here (50 made and I've got number 2. You could have it if you want...)

Hopefully I'll have a Telecaster by the end of the year, along with a tasty new amp.

  8. "Can somebody please remove these cutleries from my knees"

I can't recommend the radio programme to people enough- very similar to the TV show except it's set in the UK as opposed to New York. Rob Brydon does a brilliant job as narrator.

Fact of the day- those Phones 4 U adverts from a few years back starred Bret and Jermaine. You'll no doubt remember it- two guys with acoustics in a van ("phones, for you, for less, at Phones 4 U").

  9. Every time I've had Snappy Tomato (which in all fairness is probably 3 times max) it's been disgusting. Tasted sweet, if I recall correctly. I usually go for Milano in Bridge of Don, but I don't know why because they aren't that good really. I really like La Lombarda's pizzas- seems they do takeaways as well.

  10. THHHHHHHHHHHREEEEEEE POUUUUUUUUUUUUNDAH poncho..."

Who else here gave into the almighty poncho? It can't just have been me...

Was worth it later on I reckon, anyway.

And the music that was playing from 4pm until Bats for Lashes came on was tedious beyond belief. I initially quite liked it until an hour or so in and I realised it was STILL the same thing.

  11. Crombie Johnston is good for your first year, but is way more expensive than Hillhead. Or you could try the accomodation on linksfield road. If you don't mind going further out but still want something nice you could try king street and spring gardens that are run by Unite. Or try Ardmuir, they are a great company: Student Accomodation Aberdeen - Ardmuir Limited

Aren't they all Aberdeen Uni accomodation (or in the vicinity of)?

  12. Yeah you should try exploring it, if you can break away from your slavish pavlovian responses to mainstream popular culture and begin to think.

Out of interest, what exactly do you mean by that? Is that because of his feelings on paying to see bands?

  13. I went to Tesco Opticians the other day and got buy one get one free on the designer frames. Had a pretty good range in too, started at 89 for the brand name ones.

60 to upgrade to thinner, fancier lenses as well. Seemed pretty good, but there's no one hour service or anything- takes around a week.

  14. Although tickets were going for around a tenner on eBay I still don't feel cheated- I'd say that gig was worth every penny (including the 30 "Happy Bus" ticket, which wasn't very happy at all).

I thought they played a great set- Idioteque was an absolute belter to finish with. There were far more bellends in the crowd than I'd anticipated though. Morons, umbrellas, shit hecklers and pint throwers shouldn't be allowed at a Radiohead gig. End of. I couldn't resist telling the bird next to me to shut the fuck up after she yelled the whole way through Videotape. "Everyone shout pink like a vagina" isn't what I want to hear in my ear in the middle of one of my favourite Radiohead tunes.
