    Through one of these

Into one of these (with an upgraded Celestion Alnico Gold speaker)

Consequently I have none of these

I've been saving towards the amp for a long time now, but the Gibson was an impulse purchase. It's very very hard to say no to a P90 loaded Les Paul when it's costing you barely anything upfront then £23 a month interest free for 2 years. Annoyingly affordable.

  2. Anyone any experience of Nokia N810?

It looks pretty good for the price - retailing at around £260-£270 but may be able to pick it up cheaper than that if Google "shopping" results are anything to go by.

I probably wouldn't be considering that if I were you. If it's the N810 that I'm thinking of it's outdated (pretty sure they've been out of production for nearly 3 years), has a slow processor and isn't really a great option at all for that sort of money. The Blackberry Playbook can be had for around £249 and although not perfect would be a better option than the Nokia. Have a look for the Asus Transformer, the 10 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab and the aforementioned Motorola Xoom if you're trying to spend less (an iPad 2 is £399 for a 16gb Wi-fi by the way, so for the extra £150-200 it's perhaps still an option worth considering). The three that I've mentioned there could be had for around £300 if you hunt about.

  3. I don't think the recording is quite sharp enough to be released as a single, personally I think it's more the standard of a pretty good demo. Decent song though, the bit where you sing "you got the music playin'", the guitars there are fuckin' a.

Pretty much agree with this. Good tune. The guitars sound much better in the chorus but a little weak tone-wise in the intro and verse. I like that initial lead guitar line with the cheeky bend though. But yeah, I like it. Would check out more stuff. Plenty of strong melodies!

  4. Sorry that it's a bit off topic, but has anyone tried any of the Bare Knuckle P90s? P90s are usually my weapon of choice and I just got a new Les Paul with them, but I want something in the bridge that's a bit hotter and more suited for making nasty noises. They've got a Warpig 90 available which could be absolutely perfect. Anyone had any experience with them? I'd imagine fitting a regular Warpig into a body that's cut for P90s would be an absolutely unbelievable faff, and devalue the guitar quite a bit, but one of those in the bridge with a classic warm P90 in the neck would be such a versatile setup.

  5. I've got the above Orange 1x12 and it does indeed sound very good. Built like a tank too.

I really wanted the one that was advertised on here that you snapped up a few months back. Consequently I can't bring myself to buy one unless I find a similarly good deal. YOU SNOOZE YOU LOSE.

  6. Dunno if this is what you're after but maybe someone here is keen if you're not. I've got a nice black Ibanez GSR200 bass which is in perfect condition. Cheapest price for a new one I can find is £205. The input jack needs replacing and I think the battery cover is missing but otherwise it's in perfect condition. Very very easy to play so great for getting to grips with. Got an offer of £50 for it on here last year but I kept it and haven't used it since. Would take £45 or nearest offer.

  7. I heard that too but for me and with my guitar it broke up far too early to play anything clean over the drums in rehearsal. I also found it generally quite noisy at high volumes.

Yeah? That's pretty off-putting. Might still consider getting one, but guess I need to give it a "proper" try with my Tele.

Just read this on Harmony Central. Worth maybe considering changing the tubes?

The clean channel - this was a bit of a disapointment soundwise. It's supposed to be a "clean" channel, yet the clean headroom on it is almost non-existent from stock. I have the volume at 8 o'clock (very low) and I can hear the tubes being pushed into distortion already - and needless to say almost, below this volume I can't really hear the clean channel much. So as far as the clean channel goes - it's more like a vintage low gain channel in my opinion.

I swapped the pre-amp tubes (Chinese made crap) for some Russian Tung-Sol 12AX7's and the clean channel is now as good as on my vintage Marshall. Very chimey and bell like, sounds really nice, I can now push the volume to about 11.30 before I get any pre-amp distortion, exactly what I was looking for from stock.

  8. Yeah, I got an Orange Thunder 30 at it has next to no clean headroom when I play my PRS SE Custom 24 through it. Perhaps an amateur mistake as apparently Orange amps are not really designed to do clean cleans. :dunce:

Really? I'd heard that those were meant to have a fair amount of clean headroom. I was seriously considering buying one after trying it a couple weeks ago but I couldn't properly crank it in the store. Does it break up really early on the clean channel?

  9. How would a guitar sound through a bass head and guitar cab?

Been looking to upgrade my guitar amp to a small valve combo for a couple years now but just haven't got the cash. I own one of the 500 watt Orange Bass Terror heads and I've heard they can sound great with an electric, although I'm very sceptical. I would have presumed it'd be a pretty muddy tone, but I haven't got a clue really. So yeah, say I had a 1x12 or 2x12 cab...any idea how it would sound?

  10. Fender's recent price hikes have put a bit of a dampener on my purchase plans for 2011. Products around the 500 mark are up to about 700 now, and the price increase is across their entire range from the looks of things. I almost always buy used gear but I was hoping to pick up a new Squier Classic Vibe Strat and a USA Jazz in the next couple months. OH WELL!
