  1. But...why Western Europe? You can do Eastern Europe for half the price - unless of course, you don't like the idea of no-one speaking English ;)

No way. I found that everywhere I went in Eastern Europe last summer, everyone spoke perfect english. Slovenians are famous for their perfect grasp of english; even the 50+ drunks in bars in tiny little villages I might add. I also visited Croatia, Bosnia & Hercegovina, Serbia and Hungary and their ability to use english is absolutely fantastic; however maybe not to the same extent as Slovenia. On that note, if you're in Northern Italy or Austria, definitely consider a trip to Slovenia. It is really cool and there is a heck of a lot to see for such a small country. It's probably the most picturesque place I've visited, which is of course subjective. As for Italy, Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast are must visit places. There is so much to see and do in Tuscany, however if you don't care for the leaning tower, avoid Pisa. The horse race in Siena is the Pallio. It's pretty cool, I went with my parents a few years back. It's at the start of the new James bond movie and it is just as frantic and fast paced as it is depicted in the movie. Ok, I'm definitely getting boring now. Amalfi Coast, Tuscany, Sardinia, Venica and Verona. If you make it to venice, go to Slovenia! 2 hours on the train.

  2. Any ideas for a cheap(ish), skillful striker. I've got Santa Cruz pretty happy and Oscar Cardoza (another Paraguyan striker) but their both big bastards. Cardoza is good by the way, think he plays for Benefica. McCarthy has been rubbish, Roberts is useless and Derbyshire is ineffectual unless against smaller teams in the cup. Might get a right winger as well as Emerton is good but not brilliant. I paniced in the last day of the summer transfer window and bought Barry Robson for 7 million. He's actually been quite good but not worth all that money. Scored with his first touch of the ball for Blackburn Rovers away to Arsenal. Beat them 2-0! This new campaign is definitely going better. Thanks for your help lads.

  3. Red Hot Chili Peppers in SECC. 2001 maybe? They were supported by Mars Volta which was pretty cool. The chilis were pretty good actually. Played some pish from By The Way but there were plenty of tunes from BSSM and albums even before that.

  4. remember that a new manager will get a team playing above what they should because the players want to impress you. Make sure you have your team set up right, you have to work at it a bit more than the older champs, concentrate on player instructions, make sure you dont have a huge gap between your defence and midfield and equally between the midfield and forwards. i tend to have a sitting midfield player, someone with good positioning and tackling, also you may want to look at how determinded your players are. Also the team talks play a big part, if your team is losing a lot dont hammer them, instead try to encourage them. A change in formation might also be your problem, i always use a 4-4-2.

Yeah, I think my main problem is my defensive midfielder. I usually have an attacking midfielder with decent creativity and passing stats - set to practically full creative freedom - but when he's injured, knackered, in a mood or suspended I'm fucked. I use Carlos Villanueva for that. He's actually a really good attacking midfielder in the game by the way. Looking at Jean II Makoun from Lyon or Angelo Palombo from Sampdoria right now but think they'll both be too expensive with my meagre 11 million transfer budget. Any other suggestions?

Also, do you think asking your assisstant to give team talks too frequently will be detremental to my team's success? I never ken fit to say.

I heard John Fleck from Rangers becomes awesome! Shame I'd be giving rangers money if I bought him though.

    Thanks for the advice

  5. I have lots of friends who don't have an accent that can be pinpointed to a particular place, but they still sound Scottish. It's just the English/American style accent that does my head in that's all.

Yeah, I grew up in Banchory. Mine isn't bad but there is a propensity to speak with an american accent there. I just think I sound like a generic scot.

  6. I'm officially crap at FM09. Champ. man. was the last one I played and I was ace at it. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong! I'll start the season fine - generally with my "team in England" Blackburn Rovers - and I'll be sitting in the top 6 or 7 then as soon as I lose a game all my players hate me and I just continue losing to the point of getting humped by Stoke City at Ewood Park. After that all my players want to leave and I get sacked.

It's really upsetting. Especially when I've spent a whole weekend trying to sign players, getting close, then missing out on them. Any advice?

  7. I'm going there too, after a trip to South America (Chile, Peru) in the summer. Won't be my first time, but all the rest of my friends are going to the western Pacific isles, but I've done those already.

Yeah man, that's great man. As I said, it's the folk that don't stop going on about all the countries they've been to and how worldly it makes them etc. Like was mentioned earlier, the checklist mentality. Goodness, I was rambling round the Balkans only 5 months ago. Which reminds me, go to Bosnia and Hercegovina; it's amazing. Ha ha, I've become my own pet hate.

The other thing that annoys me is people who walk around taking photos of things without appreciating them. They don't even look at them with their own eyes or linger for any amount of time what-so-ever; they just take a photo and walk off. They then go home with hundreds of photos they don't even remember taking and you say "what's that then, that's wonderful" and they don't even ken fit it is!

  8. The supercilious c**nts who define themselve by how many countries they went to on their gap year. "You can't have a better opinion than me on anything because I went to Africa and like, saw poverty"

    Anyone know what I mean?

  9. haha, great thread. I only lie. A list of lies I tell to impress people/chat up girls:

I'm irish, australian, american, german or italian...

I'm good at football and had was in the youth setup for an abundance of random teams. (Fulham are my favourite).

    I'm not interested in sex

    I've broken bones that I havn't

    I'm 3-10 years older than I am

    I'm a lawyer, doctor, engineer (I'm a 20 year old student)

    I play lots of instruments.

    etc etc

I even lie about what I had for breakfast among other trivial things. I'll say "I had bran flakes" when I actually had weetabix and just think in my head "ha... you moron, you'll never know". One good one that totally worked was that I was a general in the army and was on leave from Iraq and I hadn't kissed a woman in ages. She was really drunk...

  10. Fucking hell - that London's Calling cover is horrible

Here's the lyrics for She's So Lovely - imaginative and original

Not repetitive in the slightest. Cunts.

Ha ha! They sound like something I tried to write when I was 12. I can't even write lyrics now! What a complete tosser their songwriter must be. I heard another of their song by them on the radio the other day... actually caked myself...

    "When I was young

    I never knew

    what this thing called love

    could do to you

    but since you been gone

and I've been on my own

    I've been feeling quite peculiar

but I'll get by without your smile

    I'll get through without you

But I wish it was me you chose

I wish it was me you chose

I wish it was me you chose

I wish it was me you chose

    cause Elvis ain't dead

    and you're coming back

    and Elvis ain't dead

    and you're coming back

    Oh

    Since you been gone

I can do what I like

but it doesn't mean a lot to me

    I'm all shook up

    and I'm lonesome tonight

    I think I need a love lobotomy

but I'll get by without your smile

    I'll get through without you

But I wish it was me you chose

I wish it was me you chose

I wish it was me you chose

I wish it was me you chose

    cause Elvis ain't dead

    and you're coming back

    cause Elvis ain't dead

    and you're coming back

Oh no, Oh no, Oh no

    You

    Me

Maybe we we're never meant to be

    (2x)

    Elvis isn't dead

    Elvis isn't dead

    Elvis isn't dead

cause I heard him on the radio

    Elvis isn't dead

    Elvis isn't dead

    Elvis isn't dead

and you're coming back to me I know

    Elvis isn't dead

    Elvis isn't dead

    Elvis isn't dead

yes I heard him on the radio

    Elvis isn't dead

    Elvis isn't dead

    Elvis isn't dead

    Me you chose

I wish it was me you chose

I wish it was me you chose

    cause Elvis ain't dead

    and you're coming back

    and Elvis ain't dead

    and you're coming back

And Elvis ain't dead (Elvis ain't dead)

And Elvis ain't dead (Elvis ain't dead)

And Elvis ain't dead (Elvis ain't dead)

And Elvis ain't dead (Elvis ain't dead)

    (Elvis has left the building

    Thank you and good night)"

Elvis is dead anyway. I want to use his house as a toilet.

  11. Neil Buchanan is still here, Art Attack is still on TV!

Yeah I know but there was a rumour a few months back that said he'd died of colonic cancer, or something. It was on the news and everything but turned out to be totally fictional. I thought the same thing might have happened to Tony Hart as I thought he'd died ages ago. The guy with the big forehead is dead too, killed himself... or is he?!?!

Someone told me recently that Bruce Forsythe is dead. It's not funny to lie about people's deaths. Tell your kids...

  12. This is all nonsense. I don't give a poo what my drums sound like. I learnt on a 3rd hand Olyimpic by Premier kit that could have been anything between 10 and 30 years old, I really don't know, or care. I now have a Premier Cabria that I got second hand and a bunch of mismatched cymbals that I bought off ebay. It sounds ace!

I guess I'm not a picky drummer... I never understood why people don't just use the house kit at gigs. Saves a lot of bother, no?

  13. You talking about the Matter of Life and Death Tour? The one where Trivium were guests? I thought that was a bit ropey right enough. Some of the tunes on that record were gash / 3minutes over-long/both. A couple of years earlier on the Dance of Death tour I thought the set was near enough perfect, considering I thought DoD was a pretty brilliant album.

No DoD tour. Aye, fair enough, their performance was good. Just don't like that album I suppose.

  14. I just read the first and last pages of this thread, so da ken if it's been brought up already, but does anyone read any Christopher Brookmyre? He's had one of his books recently made into a TV programme - possibly his worst one in my opinion - starring James Nesbit, called "Quite Ugly One Morning". I'd totally recommend some of his ones They're all easy reads, mostly crime with lots of "black" humour. It's probably quite "Scottish" humour though, if you know what I mean.

    Read:

"Not The End of the World"

"One Fine Day in the Middle of the Night" and

    "The Sacred Art of Stealing"

    They're my favourites.

  15. Killers have some great tunes on their first album. They quickly nosedived with there second...and the third is just awful.

Coldplay, have a few good tunes, but they suffer from over saturation and being hugely sucessful... which automaically turns people against them.

Scouting For Girls are pish though.

    -

I liked Killers' second album the most. I think it's really good actually.

Scouting For Girls are so bad. I was in a shit club, surrounded by shit people once and "She's so Lovely" came on and I actually wanted to cry. Terrible, terrible music my friends. Terrible.
