  1. for the record, i always thought fish and marillion were crap.

the kayleigh single was a load of pop rock bollocks...

there, i've said it i will get on with my life.

good link though bigsby, many thanks.

  2. Too bad. Will give Tom's a shout, unless someone else is harbouring a DAT player somewhere.

i believe i may well have one secluded somewhere, been a while since i saw it though...

i'll get back to you soon one way or other.

  3. Some of the kids at my school were using clay with pages from the Daily Mail on their tables. Having never bought the thing, I was genuinely apalled to see quite how much violently stupid and woefully unresearched Combat 18-esque bollocks there was on every page. Gays, muslims, hoodies, black, immigrants, Green MSPs, it was all there.

Horrible stuff, I hope they all catch avian flu and die in a mound of guano.

sorry to go off topic, but you missed divorcees (female).

the daily mail (aka der sturmer) is well known for being the tabloid that has a target audience of middle aged ladies, yet strangely most of its content is designed to deride them as a group and threaten them with the insecurity of imminently straying husbands partners etc...

  4. I think this could be the dullest thread on Aberdeen-Music unless you are some sort of sad guitar nerd. :D

i have found this thread to be riveting...

iv'e tried a lot of different stuff, but settled for Gibson Les Pauls (10's) on my Gibbos (although the consistency of Les Pauls (the strings) has varied a lot)

Ernie Ball 10's on my strats and D'addarios 9's on my Parkers.... i have no idea what is on my lap steel 'cos i have never broken a string on it in over 1.5 years...

  5. It's OK, it took me a few months of feeling ill before I was actually diagnosed with diabetes.

Diabetes isn't all that bad, yes it's a pain in the arse having to inject 4 times a day and watch what you eat, but hey, it could be cancer.

simply put, better than being dead...

  6. I've had two Rats in my time, my housemate has a Rat... I've never EVER heard anyone call it a fizzy pedal, I'd never played it and thought it sounded fizzy. Perhaps your Rat is out of spec... .

well youve read it once, bet it wont be the last, however in your defence to me most marshalls (except the some of the hand wired stuff) are fizzy... perhaps this is an issue of subjectivity... where does a marshall stand in your fizzy scale?

of all the distortion/ overdrive pedals i own/use i can positively say that any rat i have ever used has been perceived by me as the least meatiest, most fizziest distortion pedal i have used....

on the other hand a little bit of time spent with an arm full of pedals, a function generator and an audio spectrum analyser would probably help put this to bed, but i really couldn't be arsed...

you do realise that the filter control works in the opposite direction than most tone controls, ie; it adds bottom when you turn the filter clockwise.

    yeah, thanks for that.

somebody else quoted zappa on the boards a while back: writing about tone is like dancing about architecture.

  7. I've got a Rat (which is probably the fattest/meatiest decent sounding distortion you can get for a decent price). The problem with the rat is that anything under 3 o clock (filer is the wrong way round) is fizz and although over that you get a nice sound, it lacks a lot of top end.

are you kidding? or have you got an out of spec rat? the rat, i've owned two through the years, is the thinnest fizziest sounding distortion i've ever used.

don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with that, its good for a jeff beck cutting blues tone..

i'm guessing your perception is based on the rest of the rig, which solid state amp do you use? what kind of guitar?

dont want to state the obvious, but when comparing distortions i set the amp to clean with flat eq and start from there.

I was going to mention my adoration of the slightly mental Trex Mudhoney, but Jan Deal would probably yell at me as it's really more a fuzz box. Tsk.

yep the mud honey is pretty damn good. i use it in the rhythm part of my rig, but it is pretty decent at lead stuff as well. cut the gain and it can make a decent od pedal. the mudhoney is supposed to be T-Rex's answer to the tubescreamer (i think i read that on their site once) but with more gain... the tone control on the mudhoney also has a lot of authority and high frequency boost...

  8. sorry folks, i wouldn't touch a chinese made valve amp with a very long shitey stick. i fully accept soundians comments regarding components and go one further, if the labour is cheap the cheap component issue could be insignificant.

however in saying all of that i spent 1400 quid on a boogie that died within a month of owning it. within a week it was repaired under warrantee and been just fine since.

i'd second the save your money, try out as many good valve amps, in stores, mates etc as you can be bothered with and then buy quality.

it might seem pretty unreasonable to tar an entire nations amp production based on numerous poor examples; there must be some half decent amp companies emerging from china, but i have seen so many shoddy examples (3 seperate amps with 1. no output, 2. tone controls that do fuck all, 3. volume controls that only work when the presence is between 30 and 70%) it is difficult not to draw these conclusions.

anyways pays your money takes your chance.

  9. It's tomorrow, right?

Totally watching. Peter, I happen to think that you're brave but entirely strange to campaign for the Scottish Republic while being self-admittedly dependant on the British state. I feel that you encapsulate the essential dichotomy of the Scottish independence movement.

ie. We just want it both ways

your last sentence indicates that your view of the world might be a little limited...

feel free to engage in pontification & argument, but time will invariably prove you wrong. people in scotland who favour independence want to handle their own nations fate and have no interests in hand outs. our nation punches well above its weight in many respects and is very well placed to thrive without another nation managing our interests and resources...

  10. Any-one know any-one who is selling Kittens? And for a small price?

I tried vivastreet and gumtree, but they're mostly quite expensive.

I'm not worried about breed or anything, just so long as it's healthy.

And yeah I know it might seem strange to post it here, but whatever

cat & dog home beside pitodrie is where we got ours, or cats protection league...

  11. its a Rivera. Im changing from the stock el34s it came with and i hear you have to bias the amp after changing power tubes, does anybody here know their stuff about how to do this or know someone who does?

i've never used an amp tech for a power valve change, i've always done it myself, and subsequently done a bit of bias adjustement here and there.. i've never done a rivera before. if you get nowhere with your search let me know... if i can help, i will...

  12. i dont take drugs i've got nothing to hide, but i do think this is wrong, intrusive and another nail in the coffin of the freedoms our forefathers fought and died for.

simple solution for me is that i would not bother going to any pubs that have this device. further more i have never been in a situation where my night out has been "threatened" because somebody is under the influence of any drug, other than those arseholes who cant handle their booze and start fights in the street....

nuff said, publicans bring on the machine and watch your income dwindle....

  13. The UK is a transport joke, full stop.....Thats the way to do it, not our chancers charter fuckin de-regulated pish.

well said that man... i cant believe how compliant aberdonians are. grampian regional transport was significantly cheaper, ran longer, with more frequency (even to less well populated routes) primarily because its mission statement was to serve the community...

our incumbent bus company seeks only to serve its share holders. fundamentally there is a conflict of interests when the only green option involves lining the pockets of a greedy, poor performing organisation who has a distinct contempt for its customers...

pretty much every year i go to amsterdam, the difference in transport philosophy and infrastructure is sickening (and its not just amsterdam - but it does make for a very good comparison)
