  1. Alright Folks,

Sticking my pride and joy up for sale here. A Rickenbacker 330 6-string (Jetglo Black) guitar. I've had this baby for around 18 months, and have decided that I fancy a wee change(not sure what yet!) Anyway, I've gigged with her, so there are a few minor scrapes, but nothing thats really noticeable! Other than that, she's aged better than me! Stunning guitar, stunning sound. Retail price is around 1500 new, and I'm selling for 900, this will include the official Rickenbacker hardcase.

    PM if interested, cheers!!

I thought we weren't allowed to post porn on this site?

  2. If you yourself tried your hand at right-wing satire, and made a better job of it than I did, I would salute you. Instead you criticise yet can't be bothered doing better job yourself, if indeed you capable of pulling off a better job that is. I did it for a laugh, and I knew at least some would take it seriously. So in a way I got what I wanted: I wound someone up.

My premise was that this place is full of people that are left-wing for the sake of it - and I'd be surprised if I was wrong. And if you think I know nothing about left-wing politics; the history of the trade union movement and working/lower middle class self-education, you better think again. Not all people who lean to the right are populist pricks.

'Capitalism crumbles...'? I'd love a socialist society, but we'd have to disinherit the principle of money and profit as we know it, otherwise we'd end up more bankrupt than we already are. Simplistic, but probably true.

    Holy Jesus.

  3. I like to sing a bit, but find it almost impossible to sing a play bass at the same time, do you have tips on doing this that you teach?

    G...

I find this very difficult aswell. There are certain aspects of co-ordination that I fear can never be taught, although with a lot of practice it gets easier. What annoys me is that I feel like I could be singing much better if I wasn't concentrating on the bleedin' bass...

  4. well, seems you boys have been busy eh?! there's been more yapping on here than a dozen old wifies at a coffee morning! at least their banter would be better!!

we )indian red lopez) had a fucking magic tour! call it whatever you want, but 7 gigs in 7 days in 4 countries, sounds like a tour to me, mon @ drummonds, tues @ tunnels, wed @ moorings, nae a fucking tour!!!

we loved it, every gig was better than the last one and by the time we got to france and rotterdam the crowds were bouncing! even chanting in france, i think they thought we were some sort of football casuals firm!!?? made heaps of friends and sold plenty cd's and introduced lots of folk to our band.

as for the driving, piece of piss! big 8 seater splitter van, even had a dvd player!

even the 19hour journey home(rotterdam to peterheed in a day) wasn't too bad!

we had no help at all with this, we just got off our arses and did it! we used cash saved from playing gigs and raised from our clubnight to pay for everything, i would recommend this to every band serious about what they are doing. fuck, if you want, we would gladly give you all our contacts and just go for it! don't worry about some randoms having a go at you for making the effort to achieve something either! they should maybe stop playing warcraft for a few hours, go outside and get a fucking life!

    Actually, well said.

  5. Adagio For Strings by Tiesto. Not only because it's absolutely fucking epic, but it also reminds me of the most amazing holiday of my entire life. In fact probably the best week of my life. Shivers down the spine every time.

    I prefer Barber myself.

  6. Martin explains. Awesome, dude. I can't tell you if TCM really works or not, but your reasoning ability is about as fucked as our banking sector.

That terse piece of language I recently relayed to you is called a quote. The concept is that it is a repeated phrase that adds emphasis to and develops a point or at least instigates some of your own research. The fact that you didn't bother to look for yourself to find out who Dr. David P. Martin (lead investigator on the Mayo Clinic study) actually was (even though I gave you the source) only serves to highlight your own reasoning ability.

As it happens Martin isn't altogether convinced that the placebo effect is the only thing that is involved in acupuncture so he could well be an ally of yours, but the reason I quoted him was to show that even in an unbiased academic study; The Placebo Effect is unarguably prominent.

  7. So, you believe it's the placebo effect. There's no evidence that it is. Ta!

    Sigh.

Are you being willfully awkward or do you really not understand?

Not that I have to prove the bleedin' obvious, but this is from the National Fibromyalgia Association.

In acupuncture studies, the placebo effect can be especially powerful, researchers note. In these studies, sham treatments involve needles that dont actually pierce the skin, or that are not placed in the correct places. Just the expectation among patient and doctor that the patient will get better makes the patient get better, Martin explains.

  8. You're boring it.

"Acupuncture does have scientific value, but only as a placebo."

So, back that up. I agree, there's no way to prove that Santa Claus doesn't exist. That was my point!

I think you are confusing yourself.

When I mentioned the established fact that one cannot prove a negative, I was implying that the onus was on you to supply some meaningful evidence which shows us beyond reasonable doubt that we should take acupuncture seriously.

The placebo effect is well documented already, so I have good reason to believe that it is the basis of acupunctures alleged healing powers. If there is anything more than that, then it can be proved so. Unfortunately for your argument, it hasn't.

  9. He uses the same arguments, that an absence of proof is a proof of absence. It's an infantile argument.

You seem to have misunderstood scientific theories. Absence of proof imlies improbability, not proof of absence; you can't prove a negative.

For example: Prove to me that Santa Claus doesn't exist.

All you can do is say the lack of suitable evidence implies his improbability.

I'm bored of this thread - come back nullmouse!

  10. So what you are saying is the NHS are wasting money and resources on an "antiquated concept" that clearly works for some people..Conventional medicine only works for some people, but is this justified because it has been clinically tested to produce hard data?I have seen TCM work first hand, what is your experience of it?Furthermore is UCLH wasting millions on alternative therapies..UCLH Internet - Our hospitals - Royal London Homoeopathic Hospital and The Gerson Institute - Alternative Cancer Treatment

    Yes.

And your anecdotal evidence is meaningless.

  11. Oh come on, you can't claim acupuncture is purely down to the placebo effect. An absence of hard data to support the efficacy of acupuncture treatments hardly constitutes proof that it is merely a placebo.

I blame that Richard Dawkins, I really do...

The absence of hard data simply proves that it should not be assimilated into our medical system. Also, the five phases theory of acupuncture along with the idea of "Qi" simply don't fit in to the crossword puzzle of evidence that constitute our current biomedical understanding of the human body.

If there is some desirable effect in the practice, then it certainly isn't in these antiquated concepts. However I have not seen any evidence at all to prove beyond reasonable doubt that it achieves anything more than the placebo effect.

Quite how Dicky Dawk comes into this I'm not at all sure.
