  1. “Ii music Aberdeen” are holding an exclusive, one-off, after-hours event this Wednesday from 6pm until 9pm, during which you will be able to buy selected items from our stock range at specially reduced prices and listen to quality local music from our very own performance stage right here in the store! Our regular staff will be on hand to assist you in your purchasing of such items as well as taking you through our ever-growing range of musical items, amongst which you’ll find recently-received guitars from the critically-acclaimed Fender “American Vintage” range. We’ll also be announcing the winner of our “Guess how many guitar picks? Win a guitar” competition, so get your competition entry in ASAP!
  2. Hi Drummerboy, Feel free to come in for a blether and we'll see what we can do for you. As for drum gear, we don't currently have much in the way of it, but it's definitely something we're looking into - we've got a whole middle section to our store opening very soon, to which we're adding electric pianos, woodwind and brass instruments and possibly even some drum and percussion gear. Have a Butcher's at our website in the meantime ( www.iimusicshops.com ) - I did stick in onto my previous post, but I mis-spelled (or is it mis-spelt?) it (D'oh!).
  3. Evening chaps, I'm just posting on behalf of the musical instuments shop that I work for ( ii music ) to offer our support to such a weekly Blues/Rock night. We're still very new to the area, but we're keen to support the local music scene by giving a helping hand to events like this. We might, for example, also be able to help promote it for you (i.e. produce flyers, posters, advertising on our website etc.) There might even be the possibility of the odd in-store performance here at our store in the Academy - we deliberately had a small stage built in our shop to encourage local musicians to play in-store from time to time. If you're interested in any of this, feel free to contact us at the store or via our website ( www.iimusicstops.com ), Also, with regards to venues - what about the likes of Ma Cameron's?
  4. Thanks also from the Stanley boys, chaps. We had a blast making our video, which was filmed by the our good friend and fellow local musician, Mr Danny Young. Looking at the other vids and the local music scene in general, it's very encouraging to see how high the standard is these days - there's no reason why acts from the North East shouldn't be able to stand out from the majority of Scottish acts, most of whom are based in the Central belt. Not that I'm biased or anything! Thanks again, Lord S.
  5. Ladies and gents, you're all very welcome to come and visit our new store, "ii music", which did indeed open in the Academy Shopping Centre on Saturday 29th October! This is the second store to open in the "Imported Instruments" chain and I'm (Ramsay Clark) very proud to have been asked to be one of two Co-Managers here in the Aberdeen shop (Jamie Clafton is the other co-manager). You'll also find other familiar faces from both local musician and music retail spheres within our shop, and yes, we had been linked to a possible store opening in Union Square, but the Academy offered us the chance to open an even bigger store. We've already had a great selection of guitars, basses, amps, ukes, mandolins, keyboards, musical accessories, music books, tutorial DVDs, music gifts and clothing in place since Saturday, but in addition to this in the coming days, weeks and months we'll be selling orchestral instruments (brass, wind and string) and accessories and also electric pianos as well as extending our floor space even further by linking our two existing trading areas to create a very large and well-stocked music shop. We've had a stage built to encourage local musicians as well as local music tutors to perform on and advertise their services (one of whom, Paul Davidson (facebook.com/aberdeenmusicstudio), put on a great performance of classical guitar repertoire at our Grand Opening), and we also plan in the near future to be a source of great quality second-hand musical instruments and equipment as well as providing musical instrument and equipment servicing and repairs. Hopefully we'll see you down here soon, Ramsay Clark Co-Manager ii music Aberdeen Units 1-3, 16 Academy Shopping Centre Belmont Street Aberdeen 0800 756 1312 Opening hours: Mon - Sat - 10am-6pm Sun - 12noon-5pm http://www.iimusicshops.com/ http://www.mi-pro.co.uk/news/read/imported-instruments-reveals-opening-date/015891

  8. Aye, contrary to popular belief, we are not rip-off merchants here at Bruce Millers. We sell things at the Recommended Retail Price or less than that if possible, dependent on discounts offered by distributors etc. Obviously we also don't have the buying power of multi-national retailers such as Tesco, and as such will never be able to compete with them price-wise. The likes of a supermarket will always be able to make huge profits on certain food-stuffs, giving them the ability to radically discount selling prices of non-food items - i.e. "loss leaders". Ten years ago I worked for HMV before I worked for BMs, and it was around about this time that we were starting to see the likes of Tesco eat away at our sales by adopting loss-leading tactics when selling items such as CDs and DVDs. In fact, I seem to remember an article in Music Week, again around about this time about a music retailer putting together a weekly Top 10 Vegetable chart as a protest against the supermarkets behaviour - a bit mental, but a point made nonetheless! Anyway, lecture over - ultimately, the only ways to survive if you're an indie are to provide great customer service and product knowledge and try to stock the stuff that the supermarkets DON'T sell (i.e. niche market items - always a bit of a gamble though!) or at the very least offer to efficiently order the more unusual items for those who want them. It goes without saying however - Bruce Millers are top-heavy as a business in this current financial climate, and a bit of pruning may have made for a leaner, more healthy retailer. Nobody likes to see anyone lose their job, but sometimes difficult decisions and choices have to be made in order for local businesses to survive. Saying that, it does my head in to think that this once great company ( best job I've had so far, by the way ) survived the after-effects of BOTH World Wars as well as the Great Depression in the 20s, never mind countless recessions, and now we're in danger of going out of business? (OK, now I'm starting to sound a bit needy!)
  9. Yes Sam, after 8 years Paul has left the band. We wish him well in his continuing musical endeavours and now have to crack on with finding a replacement.
  10. Thanks for the kind words about our band, folks. Apologies for the style of the threadf, but if it wasn't for Kittiwake you'd probably never hear about what we're up to because we're our own worst enemies when it comes to promotion! As for the version of Monkeys on the 45 a side sampler - oops! (ssh, don't tell the record label!). Should probably point out that Kittiwake are also putting out stuff by Indian Red Lopez and also Weather Barn (formerly known as Cast Of The Capital) - pretty good for a label from Southern England!
  11. Our band Stanley would also be interested if you'll have us: Stanley on Myspace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads iamstanley@hotmail.co.uk
  12. Hello everyone, Stanley's long-serving guitarist, Paul Davidson, has recently left the group and as such the band are looking to find a good quality suitable replacement ASAP, They'll shortly be doing more live work and promotional stuff to help promote their debut single which is out on Kittiwake Records on the 15th of November. If you're interested, call Ramsay on 07944 821626 or Steve on 07799653624 or e-mail on iamstanley@hotmail.co.uk. Best of luck, Ramsay Stanley on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads
  13. Pity one of the bands playing is Stanley Odd and not Stanley - not that I'm bitter or anything!
  14. Loose women - it's milf-tastic! (Dear God, did I really type that? - I need to get out more!)
