  1. Cheers. Do you mean the little 2.5mm 'mic' input on my laptop?

Yep, that'll be the simplest way. Alternatively, you could hook it up to your line 6 USB input if you find that gives better results. Although you might have to download something to make that compatable with whatever DAW you opt for.

  2. Another thought - instead of stressing out about recording something in perfect timing before you can use the gear, try recording some multi-guitar part songs, use a microphone and some homemade percussion to put a beat to it if you want, and just leave the drum machine to the side to begin with. It won't be that apparent that the guitars aren't in perfect 4/4 or whatever, and you can focus on figuring out the techy side.

  3. Unless the multitrack comes with some software for your computer, I reckon the best way to get the tracks onto your PC is to download a free software multitrack (known as a DAW) - there are a lot of good ones, there's definitely a thread on here somewhere with some recommendations - and hook up the line out on the BR8 to the audio in on your laptop and record to a virtual channel on that.

Unless you are a human metronome, you'll probably want to lay the drum machine down on a channel on the BR 8, record along to it on a separate channel then you can record each channel to their own separate virtual tracks on the laptop, allowing you to mix them on the laptop. I wouldn't bother with bouncing tracks on the BOSS itself if you've only got a small memory card. There's definitely loads of how-to's online regarding the various DAWs, so those should help you go from getting the bits and pieces into your laptop to turning it into a mixed down mp3.

There's not really a one stop shop for this stuff though. You just have to get stuck in, get to know your own stuff and then it's just a case of picking up tricks as you go along. I've been recording my own crummy songs for like 6 years now, and I'm still figuring out new stuff every time I play about with my laptop.

  4. Hmmmmm

Interesting thread and one I thought would not get locked because that would be backing the case put to the mods.

I've been on several forums over the years. Nearly got thrown off one for very little to be honest.

Two of the ones I visit most are totally different. Both about motorcycles, yet they differ a lot.

One has it's mods and they keep on top of spam etc. However, they don't do much in the way of locking threads or deleting stuff. The only time I seem to remember a locked thread was when Maggie T died. Things got out of hand due to politics etc. Other than that it's basically a free for all. Yes even though this is the case, it's the best forum I've been on for bikes because the guys really try to help you out if you're stuck with something. Jesus there's even a welder guy on there and folk send him stuff to weld....he does it for fook all. They also try to go out on bike runs a meet up just for the sake of it....because they like bikes...IE theor hobby. The other forum is a bit more more of 'look what I have' or I've just added this to my bike'. Not the same sort of craique (is that the right spelling), but still handy for info etc.

On the other hand, I've posted on here recently asking for advice and - up until this posting - have only got one reply. Not really a good response to my request for advice. The advice I was asking is something I'm sure dozens of folks on here could help with....but yet no offers. I think you can see the differences in the forums. One has a bunch of bull $hitting auld dodgers on it, that will help at the drop of a hat, or a tap of a keyboard. The other one full of 'music lovers' that don't seem to want to be part of a community. "Aberdeen Music" should tell you something...it's about music and people in or around Aberdeen (I'm sure there's other of course) yet they won't help out when they can. Therefore I can see the forum getting less and less used, as the users are doing it no favours..................not just the Mods. Although they are oot sometimes (that's just a wee joke)

    Sorry to rant on folks.

I get that you're frustrated, but recording is just a side of things that quite a small number of people are nerdy about on here any more. At any rate, it might help to be more descriptive in your thread title as it'll help attract someone in the know. Maybe open it up to a wider discussion could work - 'how do YOU home record?'. While I'm hardly good enough at recording to feel confident offering you advice from scratch, I'd definitely get involved in that.

Jim Root signature "Jazzmaster" - clearly not a Jazzmaster.

Fixed bridge and 2 active humbuckers - play a fucking ESP/Les Paul you cunt.

Yeesh! It's only a matter of time before the Jim Root Mustang is upon us. What'll happen once all the traditional Fender designs have been spent?

  6. A thread for the drumkits, guitars, basses etc you find along your travels that are beyond hideous in your fine opinion.

There are three rules: glossy photographs are mandatory, you have to be furious if some shitehawk posts gear that gives you GAS, and you're not allowed to post pictures of other users' pathetic attempts at DIY.

I'll start:  When George Lynch of Dokken isn't playing dinosaur metal, he's hacking at wood in his garden shed and making super expensive, vaguely guitar looking objects:

  7. personally I think it would look nice

I would understand it if you could strip off tolex and paint the bare wood/mdf, but I think the Cubes are sort of covered in plastic. It'll just end up cracked, chipped and absolutely annihilated in resale value.
