  1. I'm a rhythm guitarist, 22 years old. Have played before in a band, Cheap Dirt. We played a lot of classic rock and jazzed up 50's rock n roll covers and did our own material. If you want to check out some of our stuff, you can find us on myspace at: Cheap Dirt :Need a Guitarist!!!: on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads We havent been very active (we all seem to have been really busy) so Im looking to maybe join another band or start a new one entirely. Have been playing guitar for 6-7 years and my influences are AC/DC, Status Quo, Magnum, UFO and Saxon. I often play a lot of 12 bar blues, and it's quite noticeably influenced my style of play. I would say my strength is coming up with funky/catchy riffs, but could do with a songwriting partner as well. Ricky

  3. Im the rhythm guitarist in a band called Cheap Dirt, and we're looking for a lead guitarist. We have a couple of originals already with more on the way. My influences include AC/DC, Rainbow, Def Leppard, Saxon, Manowar, Dio and Status Quo. Our drummer and bassist have slightly heavier influences, more towards metal We havent gigged for quite a while now, and we are dying to play. We are regulars at the Moorings Bar, and have played a couple of gigs there as well as open mic sessions. We have also played gigs in Portlethen, Stonehaven, Ellon and Cafe Drummonds. We have had offers to play Tunnels, but we always seem to be busy
  4. Well, rhythm guitarist a hard rock band called Cheap Dirt, and we're looking for a lead guitarist. We have a couple of originals already with more on the way. My influences include AC/DC, Rainbow, Def Leppard, Saxon, Manowar, Dio and Status Quo. The drummer and bassist have slightly heavier influences, more towards 80's metal.
  5. The key words in the sentence are "no" and "soloist". I also made clear that im not interested in having more than two guitarists if thats what you were referring to. We need a soloist, end of. Most guitarists play rhythm anyway. I see, so if I happen to disagree with you that makes me the bad guy?

    Blues Band

Don't undertsnd how you can call blues depressing..... Forgive him, hes still trying to deal with being a drummer
  7. I ask myself this question all the time. You still havent told me why you're asking a rhythm guitarist yet?

    Blues Band

And this is what I don't get, since when did we ever play country when Ian was in the band?
  9. Err....he said hes not a soloist? We need somone who can solo. Thats my point. What would be the point in having another rhythm guitarist when we dont need one? We NEED a lead guitarist who can solo. Also, Ian DID play rhythm, quite a lot actually.
  10. Guess that means im not in the band anymore then.....
  11. To be more specific, we're looking for a lead guitarist Sorry dude

I don't know, the way I see it is you both hated each other, and made everything about the two of you. Steve, you always moaned about Ian turning us into country, and Ian, you always moaned about Steve turning us Metal. Well, newsflash, neither were in any danger of happening. Paranoia FTW
  13. Just go to the uni website. You are bound to find an e-mail address somewhere. I did the same to ask about my band Cheap Dirt playing during Freshers week, or something similar. A.K.A the Fox played for Freshers Week either last year or the year before.
  14. Technically not my car since i erm....dont drive, but here goes... Otis Redding - Definitive Collection Status Quo - Piledriver Status Quo - Hello! Deep Purple - Deepest Purple - The Very Best Of Deep Purple John Lee Hooker - Blues Is My Favourite Colour
  15. Im not putting Quo in the same league as Queen....im putting them in the league above And im not saying Queen are crap. I did mention in an earlier post that i like them but i get bored of them, esp. hearing their songs non stop. I rate Rob Halford of Judas Preist as a better singer. He can really hit the high notes. But who the singer is doesnt make the world of difference if the music doesnt fit and you simply cannot rate a band on the singer alone. And how can ANYONE rate Brian May a better rhythym player than Parfitt or a better lead player than Rossi? Every clip ive seen of May live he rarely does anything but stand there and play the notes. Parfitt and Rossi entertain the crowd.
  16. Btw jonty84, if you knew anything at all about Quo you would know that many of their songs are *not* based purely around guitar riffs. They went through an entire 'pop' phase in the 80's and did several songs and have done several more since then based around catchy tunes, lyrics and choruses. Even in the 70's they had some varied and unusual stuff..... But your opinions are probably based on their 'image' as 'three chord wonders'. Utter bullshit.
  17. Cobain did rite songs, true. But they were dire. And surely even insecure Nirvana obsessed pot-smoking 15 year-olds must be sick of Smells Like Teen Spirit by now.
  18. Oh yeah and Oasis and the Red Hot Chillis. Most bands mentioned i hate but i like Led Zep and Queen just got bored of listening to ppl obsess over stairway to heaven and Bohemian Rhapsody THEY ARE SO FUCKING CRAP! Worst Led Zep song probably and im sick of every Queen song other than Tie Your Mother Down. When will ppl get it into their heads that there is more to music than guitar riffs? Cant stand most bands nowadays, they all seem overrated, apart from the old rockers that are still goin.
  19. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Queen, Led Zeppelin. And there are many many more nominees. But Nirvana tops the list by far. Such a teenage angst thing, nothing about music at all. The guy did nothing. And then shot himself, meaning we have to put up with bloody conspiracy theories about his 'murder'. Queen are thought by ppl to be "the first band to do all genres of music". At least thats what ppl tell me. Bullshit. Ray Charles was the first to bring rock, jazz, soul, blues, country and pop together and reduce music segregation since he played all those types of music, and Queen songs mainly all sound like opera mixed with heavy rock anyway
