  1. Oasis, Coldplay and Ian Brown could feature on the bill of a new music festival at Spike Island which is due to take place after the local council gave the go ahead.

Halton Councils executive board have given its approval for a three day event due to take place in May.

According to widnesworld.co.uk Cllr Rob Polhill said: "This event is set to be the biggest concert here in ten years and it is appropriate that it is taking place at Spike Island, where the Stone Roses played their famous concert."

A free show involving local bands will kick off the festival on the Saturday and a source has informed Gigwise that organisers have approached former Roses front man Brown plus Oasis and Coldplay as possible headliners for a rock extravaganza on the Sunday.

David Millar, director of promoters Surprisingly Good Events, said: "The festival will be taking place before the other major concerts such as the Reading Festival so that bands can still play both."

  2. I know that crowd numbers is a big factor but its such a shame that places like the forum are hardly used for gigs etc. Also how good would it be to have more summer time gigs outdoors at places like Crathes Castle!! That Paul Weller gig there a few years back was a great night..

  3. Regarding my post yesterday about the A.E.C.C and the lack of gigs etc..

I know places in Aberdeen such as Kef, The Tunnels & Moshulu etc have gigs/music events on a weekly basis. I enjoy going to these venues but wouldn't it be nice for places like the Forum etc to have more gigs.. Change of Scene..

N.B. This is not a polical post dictating the lack of venue size/musical interest or any other statment which people normally seem to nit pick from post... Just a simple statment, "wouldn't it be nice to have more option and venues to go to!"

  4. Im not disputing the fact that we do get some very good bands up to aberdeen, but when we are presented with the opportunity we take full advantage.

For example when Oasis played Aberdeen (exclusive scottish date) it instantly sold out, granted it is Oasis but if some gigs were distributed more then we would have the opportunitys.

When Franz Ferdinad played, granted they had a sterling support but even with additional scottish dates the gig was a sell out, James Blunt etc I cant remember a gig at the A.E.C.C in recent times that hasn't ether sold our or came close...
