  1. Is it only considered offensive if you are talking about a bass guitar ? Surely there really is no other way the double bass should be played other than by slapping it.
  2. Nice. Since the demise of my old fashioned turntable it's been a while since I've listened to any Toxic. Is this available in any well known local independant record shops ? Just wondering like as we've got friends coming out to see us next weekend and rather than rely on the ropey postal service over here it would be a preferable method of delivery.
  3. That one in Peep Peeps was a shocker. I don't think the selection had been updated since the day it was installed and you had to grovel to jabba behind the bar for some old stylee coins to get the thing to work and even then you might not get any volume I seem to remember Freelands had a decent Jukebox, but then again, those were hazy, hazy days................
  4. bloody hell, was that in 1988 ? for some reason we never managed to get tickets so entry to the gig was obtained by hoying over a wall, sneaking througha door wandering down some dimly lit corridors towards where the sound was coming from and then taking advantage of somebody elses misfortune as they were physically restrained as they tried to sneak in. Fantastic night. We drove down to Dundee the following day for an Aberdeen game and bumped into Joe in Jims Cafe or whatever it was called in those days, the one on the main road between Aberdeen and Dundee.
  5. I always tried to grab one of the little photocopied fliers that were stuck up around the place as a memento of the gig and to compensate for sometimes waking up in the morning and wondering just where the hell I had been the previous night! I remember feeling quite intimidated the first time I ever went to the place, queing up outside in shore lane convinced that everybody was plotting some evil and sadistic death for me, but after a few visits I realised that it must just have been some kind of squint the regulars adopted to compensate for the dark interior and dull lighting! So many people that I remember by face and used to chat to most weekends but names.................. ha! I can't remember the bands, give me a break !! Many memories have been reawakened by the bands mentioned, King Kurt with their spinning wheel, Jesus and Mary Chain with their 5 minutes of feedback and then walking off (was that midweek ? Seems to ring a bell for some reason) I don't think these were mentioned but New model Army, Swamptrash, Wedding Present, Transvision Vamp (I still have those close up photos I took of Wendy James that night somewhere) and for some reason I distinctly remember going to see Dumpys Rusty Nuts
  6. Over the years the memory has been getting a bit hazier and most of the collected paraphanalia has been thrown out by an over zealous wife. Back in the day I was going to the Venue every weekend, regardless of who played. I saw some superb gigs and I saw some absolute crap ones. Does anybody know of anywhere on the net that lists the bands that played in this esteemed place ? cheers
  7. Jegsy Dodd and the Sons of Harry Cross - Winebars and Werewolves. Curse you John Peel for touting their prowess on the back of the Half Man Half Biscuit phenomenon. Now I am a bit older and a bit wiser I understand the loook that I got in one up when I purchased the bloody thing.
