I'm interested in hearing the full story behind this.

There's not much else to it really, but if you want the long version: about 4 or 5 months before 1up closed and they'd been putting on a few more shows (Music Open Day etc.) there were rough plans to put on another all-dayer gig in there that fell through. This wasn't long after DM had just finished recording our first EP, so we asked if it'd be okay for us to take that date instead, to put the EP out, the idea being that it would be free on the condition that a purchase was made from 1up. 1up stocked it on their counter.

A few weeks later, we were playing Tunnels on a bill that Miss Lucid happened to be on too. Things had been a wee bit awkward as in the run up to the gig, their guitarist had kept asking Jan if they could borrow his amp and since it's vintage and second hand and he didn't personally know them, Jan declined saying that he was okay with them using his cab, but not head. They asked again on the night as we were packing up and getting off stage.

During our set, we mentioned that our EP was available for free at 1up. During their set, ML pointed out that as they were "professionals", they charged for their EP to recoup some of the costs that went into making it and that bands that gave their music away for free were the reason that everything was "going down the tubes". Their EP could be purchased through iTunes. We laughed at that and called them out later on the sheer irony of what they'd just said, to which they got very defensive.

It's all a bit of a shame really, as generally it's nice to have a bit of camaraderie and a laugh with bands you share a bill with and thus far, they've been the only band we've not enjoyed playing with. Regardless of whether we've really enjoyed each others' music, we've always been lucky enough to play with thoroughly pleasant folk.

A'ight. Worst three:

Mic Morris: By a sizeable margin my least favourite. Worst first impression. Pedestrian beats, questionable choice of lyrics, particularly lowest-common denominator homophobic stuff. Totally terrible attitude too.

Guttergodz: Obvious covers, cock-rock posturing, just not my thing.

Miss Lucid: Not my thing at all, like Guttergodz, I guess you can say not terrible musicians, but it's all a bit overwrought and overtly earnest. Sounds sub-Manics and dull to my ears.

I'm sure other people love them though, so it's fiiiine.

Oh, I'm fine with being blunt and honest about music if I can be constructive or helpful, but I don't feel it's too necessary for me to say if I don't get something, or it's not my sort of thing, or think something's so awful that there's no way I'm ever going to like it.

The thread's called "best/worst" bands though. There are loads of bands I don't enjoy or "get" and a few that I genuinely think are awful, but that doesn't mean they're the "worst", I think I'm lucky enough to generally avoid most of that!

They're from just outside Aberdeen so I think it's allowed: His Name Is Codeine are ace, both live and on record. Carson Wells, Min Diesel, [wall], Absolutist, Dirtdrinker and Kitchen Cynics are also big favourites.

Newer acts I've seen more recently and have been really impressed with include Deportees, Godzilla Blues and Death Watch.

There are a lot of bands I don't like too, but I won't list them, because that's mean.

DHC was great. Athaneum is one of my favourite bars in town by a fair bit. Shite.

Where would I be able to find a cheap whiskey flask in town?

The very same. It's the bags of fried tofu that are great. It doesn't crumble or fall apart, the stuff most tofu haterz haven't tried!

Really cheap veg, rice and sauce too.

I'm definitely not too "up" on this sort of music, but I really enjoy the GB stuff. I like the melodies- and the tones and sounds that you've chosen suit the theme and aesthetic you're trying to accomplish whilst still sounding pleasant and musical. The tunes all flow really well and are well structured, they feel well thought out and there aren't any parts that overstay their welcome, which makes for a rewarding listen. Good work. More please.

Aye, there's some pretty good tofu around at the moment. I'm making a stir fry with smoked tofu right now.

Although, I'll need a bit of time to reflect on it to decide if it makes my end-of-year list.

Loved Hey Arnold, Clarissa Explains It All, Mike & Angelo, Byker Grove, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Recess, Animaniacs, How 2 and some game show on BBC 1 that had a lift, Incredible Games I think it was called?

Live & Kicking was a staple too.

I couldn't make it along and appreciated the stream. I'll make an effort to watch more of it when I have a bit more time. Sounded fine to my ears. Good effort. Looked like a massive crowd and a brilliant day- well done to all involved.

It's one of those words that can be used both in frustration or as a term of endearment.
