But he does say the list is incomplete.
Anyway' date=' it's his fantasy studio and in his fantasy maybe the studio elves design and build it for him.[/quote']
Its such a pity that its too cold for studio elves this far north...
only question that crossed my mind was why there was Behringer kit in a wish list ????

Apple Macintosh Powermac 8500 AV (has built in video in/out) with 14" Apple display, keyboard, mouse. Can easily be upgraded to G3 or G4 spec.
Comes with Emagic Logic v2.5, boxed with manuals, dongle etc unused.
Emagic Log2 midi interface
Emagic Audiowerk8 2-in, 8 out, spdif in/out audio interface.
Also running Protools Free and still running Cubase 5.1
This would make a great system for somebody who wants to run mainly midi with a few tracks of audio, or needs to get to grips with the operation of Logic, as the midi side is fundamentally the same as Logic 7.
Offers ? I'll also consider splitting...

How much do you want for the M-64C ?
Any idea what condition the battery is in ?
I'll take it anyway if you still have it, as it will work in my 909 or MKS-80

are there many good producers in aberdeen? im not too keen on captain toms and heard that mark at exile was pretty good? thankyou summer x.
I can't believe the thread got this far without anybody asking what style of music you want a producer for...
No point in getting in Mutt Lang to produce Kylie.. or Steve Albini to produce Bob Marley..
Most the names on the thread are Engineers, not producers, perhaps with the exception of NM but I'm not a big fan of his production style..
We offer our services as producers, if we like your music..

Ouch... they cost 339 new

For drum tracks I don't want to be limited to using loops/cutting up loops. I would like be able to program original drum beats so that I can recreate the drums in withinthesewalls songs. So the style of music would be live band sounds. I guess I could do this within the drum program if it allowed or by using midi i.e. keyboard?
In that case BFD will be exactly what you need... real drums trying to sound real..
Whilst I've got everyones attention I have been considering getting a "good" microphone for recording. First thoughts were of an SM57. I'd be looking to recording amplified guitar/bass' date=' acoustic guitar and perhaps vocals. It would appear that this has all those bases covered to a greater or lesser degree. Thoughts? Dynamic or condensors? Better options?[/quote']Have a look at the AKG C1000 or a Rode NT1
SM57 is better for live sound than recording..

What model are the Numarks ?

I didn't realise Thomann only dealt in Euros' date=' damn, I'm going to have to find out more.[/quote']
Yeah, the site quotes UKP but its billed in Euros. If you are paying by debit/credit card you need to send them a scan of both sides of the card - check your order confirmation email as its not immediately obvious that you need to do this for the order to complete.

I'm not using ProTools, but can offer some info..
The problem with ProTools LE is that it still attracts ProTools plugin prices. The great attraction of ProTools is the excellent quality of the plugins. Admittedly the best of the best are TDM, but most have been converted to RTAS and with a decent machine should still run reasonably well.
Forget the Waves plugins, they are very expensive and not good value anymore, things have moved on since.
Instead if you need good quality comps etc look at http://www.elementalaudio.com/products/index.html
While your there grab the free Inspector plugin.
Also check out the high quality plugins from http://www.sonalksis.com
If you are working with vocals you will probably need to look at AutoTune - pretty much the product that made ProTools mainstream..
You don't mention how you intend to create your drum tracks or for what style of music, but many consider BFD to be far better than Battery:

You probably also want to check out FXpansions VST to RTAS wrapper, very handy.

I've used them several times. Not bad for price, but the dollar is pretty good at the moment so worth looking at US prices too.
Because Thomann are in the EU there is no import duty to pay, and their prices already include VAT. Only thing you may get charged for is the Euro conversion, but that depends on your bank.

Very similar synths, the Ion being the bigger and older brother..
Depends on what you need I guess.

Hahaha...we thought the start was very Logans Run!
mmm... more Rocky Horror than Logans Run.. the rest reminded me of Alien Sex Fiend/Dead Kennedys.. but you can't have everything

mmm... this is interesting.. obviously the term 'punk' has changed a lot in the last 29 years
What does punk mean now ? (serious question)
To me it was about the ability for anyone to have a go at making music irrespective of the ability to play an instrument. Folks like The Pistols and Damned used to have the names of the note and strings painted/tippexed onto their instruments to get through a set...
The idea of a solo (and a repeatable one) was heading back towards the prog rock movement that kick started punk into life...
A lot of people see paralles in the acid house movement and dance genres of the late '80s and early '90s for similar reasons..
I've obviously missed a lot... where did punk lose its way ?

Unless you are plugging into a RIAA equalised input (normally marked phono) then yes you will need a preamp.
Pro-ject do a range of these from about 45 upwards. although you can get cheaper 3rd party ones.

If anybody is interested in classic 'mellotron' tracks have a listen to some of these:
The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever (Flutes)
Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven (Flutes)
The Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin (Violins)
Genesis - Dance on a Volcano (Choirs) & Watcher Of the Skies (Brass&Bass Accordion Mix)
Yes - Heart of the Sunrise & And You And I (Strings)
Radiohead - Exit Music (Choirs)
Putte - Jubel Buben (Flutes, Harp Glissandos & Cello)
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King & Starless (Three Violins)
You might want to check out the Mellotron VST/AU

If its just for listening (and not mixing) the Dual 505 is a decent deck in your price range.

I don't mind doing the transfers for you in return for some beer.
PM me if you are interested.

The proper Marshall valve stuff does one sound very well - the late 60's/early 70's British Rock sound, which was then re-invented again in the early '80s via Iron Maiden, The Cult etc.
Depends if this sound appeals to you or not..
They made a name for themselves at a time when all the other British stuff was unreliable or designed for clean sounds like the AC30, and the American stuff was expensive and very difficult to get spares for (something necessary for gigging a valve amp of the time).
The biggest attraction was that the volume goes up to 11, and the best sound is obtained playing at this volume..

a similar but cooler bit of software is celemony melodyne' date=' it's pretty amazing.
somewhere along the way the thread got hijacked..
Melodyne is the business, if you've got 300 to spend..
All these types of software only work on monophonic lines, and work best with harmonically simple sounds

i want to record a deadloss acoustic ep on top of a mountain. a power source may be problematic.
A DAT recorder and a stereo pair would probably give decent results, unless you had anything really elaborate in mind.. wind is probably the biggest problem..
-
also' date=' what sort of mics would you be using to record kits with?[/quote']
I'd need to buy/rent more mics if this idea came to anything.. not a problem.
You would be surprised at how decent a sound you can get from 3 mics with a bit of thought and plenty of blankets..
Alternatively the audio->midi stuff in Logic works pretty well these days, letting you replace a poor drum track with samples..
A lot of this would depend on the band in question..
-
It seems a great idea' date=' the only flaw i can see is that not everyone has their own rehearsal space...I couldn't imagine you would be able to record a band practicing at say, Captain Toms, for one, the cost of renting the room with the added cost of a recording crew brought in would outweigh any value, plus you'd be recording about 3 bands at once Even in the recording room at Toms you can feel/hear the other rooms....I reckon the money is in having your own premises....[/quote']
Yeah I was trying to avoid going down the road of providing premises etc, and concentrate on pitching the idea a bands that were already a bit more established. I tend to think that you need somewhere to rehearse to be in the game seriously anyway (a generalisation I know).
Premises bring overheads, which pushes the whole thing towards a full time studio... which is a different beast altogether.. and not sure Aberdeen needs another budget studio.. I'm trying to pitch this idea at the folks that can't afford to go the studio route but still want a presentable demo..

Bass Station is 'ok' depends what you are looking for..
Personally I wouldn't piss on one if it was on fire..
It was supposed to be a 303 clone.. much in the same way a Lada is like a Merc..
K Station isn't too bad... with any synth depends what you want from it..
V-Station I liked so much I bought it.. and use it a lot...
Oh and only a Moog sounds like a Moog.. (except prehaps when its an ARP infringing a Moog patent ) I know I've got 3 Moogs...
