  1. Yeah I went to the Belmont as well. Really well made film. The clip of Release from the Verona arena in the pouring rain gave me goosebumps - I was at that show. Some incredible early band footage - the Singles party, Chris Cornell, Andy Wood, Eddie and Kurt at the MTV awards, the Grammys, ticketmaster hearing.
  2. oops, cheers min, should be fixed now!
  3. Yas. I love a list. Vitalogy, No Code, Vs, Yield, Ten, Riot Act, Binaural, S/T, Backspacer Here's another one. Verona, London Astoria, London Shepherd's Bush, Milan, London O2, London Wembley Arena, San Diego, Glasgow, Belfast, Irvine
  4. Riot Act, S/T and Backspacer come nowhere close to any of Ten, Vs, Vitalogy, No Code or Yield. Into The Wild soundtrack is better than those three as well, I'd guess. Some of my favourite gigs have been Pearl Jam shows. Time to dig out some old bootlegs...
  5. I'd like to see this. Still a very, very good live band although I'm less enthused by recent recorded output.
  6. It gives interesting music promotions extreme pleasure to announce this wonderful event an extraordinary line up, not to be repeated in Aberdeen. FOUND (Chemikal Underground) + Kid Canaveral (Fence Records) + Rick Redbeard (The Phantom Band / Chemikal Underground) plus special guests TBC Saturday, 3rd December 2011 The Tunnels (Room 1), Carnegies Brae, Aberdeen, AB10 1BF. Phone (01224) 642662 or online http://www.wegottickets.com/event/132533 http://www.myspace.com/interestingmusic http://www.thetunnels.co.uk FOUND (Chemikal Underground) FOUND is the brainchild of art college buddies: Ziggy Campbell (lead vocals, guitar), Tommy Perman (bass guitar, synth) and Kev Sim (electronics, percussion). The band create an unusual mix of garage rock, melodic pop and glitchy electronica, which has lead to them signing a publishing deal with the highly respected Domino Records and a record deal with the outstanding Chemikal Underground. FOUND began life as an experimental arts collective putting on many weird and wonderful events in art galleries, warehouses and even storage containers. Their most recent project, an emotional robot band called Cybraphon, captured the attention of the worlds press. Since its unveiling at the Edinburgh International Festival at the start of August, Cybraphon has been featured on national newspapers across the world (e.g. China, Brazil, Italy, Spain, UK), made the top story on the homepage of WIRED.com and has been covered by CNN and TV networks internationally including BBCs primetime arts show The Culture Show. FOUND made their American debut at SXSW in March 2009 and followed up with a string of performances at CMJ in October 2009 where Brooklyn Vegan picked them out as ones to watch. In the UK they have built up a strong fan base and highlights of their live career to date include the BBC Electric Proms, T in the Park, Triptych, Brightons Great Escape, the Fence Collectives Homegame festival and Hydro Connect Festival. Their self-released debut Found Can Move earned them an impressive amount of UK national radio play including support from BBC Radio 1 djs, Steve Lamaq, Rob Da Bank, Huw Stevens and Vic Galloway. Theyve recorded radio sessions for BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio Scotland including a recording in John Peels studio at Maida Vale. They also recorded an exclusive live session in the legendary Beatles Studio at Abbey Road for US radio station U-Pop XM 29. FOUND have a prolific output with two full-length albums and numerous singles / EPs in the last two years, with releases on Fence Records [uK], Creeping Bent [uK] and Aufgeladen Und Bereit [Germany]. The band have also become sought-after remixers and have recently applied their creative imaginations to reworking the music of King Creosote (Warner), Make Model (EMI), Attic Lights and) and Au Revoir Simone (Moshi Moshi). 2011 saw FOUND snapped up by Chemikal Underground who released their eagerly new long player factorycraft to wide critical acclaim. This has subsequently seen the lads*tour around the UK and beyond, and also playing lots of dates with The Phantom Band. In September they play End of the Road festival which is acknowlegement of what IMP have always known; that the laddies in FOUND are really quite innovative and special. A GREAT BAND! http://foundtheband.com http://www.chemikal.co.uk KID CANAVERAL (Fence Records) Kid Canaveral formed in St Andrews, Scotland, in 2004 with the band meeting whilst studying at the University of St Andrews. The original line-up consisted of: David MacGregor on guitar and vocals; Kate Lazda on guitar and vocals; Rose McConnachie on vocals and bass guitar; and Dan Sheehy on drums. The band played their first gig supporting King Creosote and The Pictish Trail in St Andrews. The band relocated to Edinburgh in 2006 in order to be able to play a greater number of gigs, and for the opportunity to play to a wider audience. In order to release their own records David and Kate set up Straight to Video Records and between 2007 and 2010 the band put out four 7" singles (Smash Hits, Couldn't Dance, Second Time Around and I don't have the heart for this), two cassette singles (Left and Right E.P. and You Only Went Out to Get Drunk Last Night) and their debut album. Original drummer Dan Sheehy left the band after the release of their fourth single in December 2008, to be replaced by Clarke Geddes after he drunkenly applied for the vacancy. Clarke parted company with the band to move to Switzerland in June 2009 after the initial sessions for the bands first album. Scott McMaster was announced as his replacement shortly afterwards. Their debut album Shouting At Wildlife was released on Monday 5 July 2010 on Straight to Video Records. The band toured the UK extensively and played a number of festivals in support of the album and recorded a live session for BBC Radio Scotland, playing tracks from the album and a cover of the King Creosote song 'Missionary' from Kenny and Beth's Musakal Boat Rides. It was announced on 23 February 2011 that the band had been signed to Fence Records, and that the label would re-releasing Shouting at Wildlife on Vinyl in July 2011. Kid Canaveral completed a short tour of the USA in March including a number of shows at the 2011 SxSW festival in Austin, Texas. As well as their own performances, the band acted as King Creosote's backing band for two gigs, one at the Domino Records Showcase at Emo's and one at the British Music Embassy in Latitude 30. Kid Canaveral were filmed before and during SxSW as part of a BBC Artworks documentary about the festival. http://www.kidcanaveral.co.uk http://www.fencerecords.com RICK REDBEARD (The Phantom Band / Chemikal Underground) Rick Redbeard is one sixth of Glasgow rock outfit The Phantom Band and sometime player with David Scott's Early Songs. He has been playing music since he was a wee boy growing up deep in the Aberdeenshire wilderness. In 2005, with the aid of some toy instruments and a broken violin, he made the concerted effort to begin writing and recording more of his own songs. He made his live solo debut early in 2006 and assumed the name Rick Redbeard which he stole from a pirate. One day he aims to live in a hut in the hills and communicate with the world through smoke signals and bird calls, but for now he uses words and the odd song or two. Sometimes he performs them in bars. http://www.phantomband.co.uk http://www.chemikal.co.uk

The online release is a double A-side single with a recently penned song, An Affirmation alongside a radical reworking of an old favourite, Raise the Alarm. This new recording sees Amber develop a far more produced feel than her debut live EP, with a sense of intensity through layers of strings, piano, drums and electric guitar having been added to her line up. Her honey-warm vocals still very much to the fore, its little wonder the comparisons to Feist, Sia and Dido still resonate, though her music is more akin to Sufjan Stevens or Iron & Wine. Having shared a stage with the likes of Paolo Nutini, Seth Lakeman, Amy MacDonald and Fionn Regan over the past few years Amber has built up quite a following. In the past year, Amber has added her vocals to the track Past Passes By on Rod Jones of Idlewilds solo album A Sentimental Education. However she has been focusing on her own solo material and has performed at festivals throughout the Highlands & Islands and further afield in Paris and Dublin. Amber has been touring throughout the UK in August and September, from intimate acoustic shows to festivals and gigs with her 7-piece Handsome Band, with an appearance on the Bohemian Jukebox Stage at Moseley Folk Festival in Birmingham on Sunday 4th September. http://listn.to/amberwilson http://twitter.com/amberino_wilson http://amberwilson.believeband.com/ http://www.myspace.com/amberacoustic AMY SAWERS Perhaps the best female voice in Scottish rock and a firm favourite of the IMP crew, Amy has just got better and better from her early gigging in 2000. Recording for Fat Hippy set Amy forward and she has received lots of airplay on local and national radio, even having a No 3 in the AUSTRALIAN indie charts with the track "Black Bones". In recent years Amy has honed her fine writing, her live shows have got bigger and she has supported the likes of Alabama 3, Brakes, The Phantom Band, Dawn of the Replicants, Eugene McGuinness, Ida Maria and Girls Aloud, yes odd but true. GIRLS ALOUD! A great supporter of charities including our beloved UTG campaign, she has appeared at various festivals. Recent acolades include one track "Free Like Sun" appearing on SKINS series 3, which brought some great national attention. After having some time off enjoying being a mum Amy is back and tonight she's going to blast us solo into space...... https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1168577485#!/amysawersmusic?sk=wall PANDA SU (Jagged Roots) We are simply delighted to welcome back Panda Su after her fantastic gig with us in February this year. Panda Su is something of an enigma. Half Portuguese, born in the rural Highlands of Scotland and having spent her formative years deep in the forests of Fife, she found her own voice early last year with the release of the critically acclaimed Sticks & Bricks EP. One of lifes interlopers, her music stands on the edge of reason, where Su looks into the precipice with a wry smile and a nervous anticipation that is mirrored in her lyrics. Darkly fascinating, she weaves her spell with a recipe of childlike simplicity that is nothing less than compelling. Awarded Jockrocks Best Scottish Newcomer in 2010, Panda Su has gained a worldwide following through her constant touring and festival appearances. The inclusion of her song Eric is Dead in the Finale of Skins Series 4 and the French Compilation album Fete De La Musique has seen PANDA SU develop a fan base throughout Europe and North America. Most recently, she was surprised when her song I Begin popped up on iTunes own Scotland Today compilation alongside Biffy Clyro, Mogwai, Paolo Nutini.and Susan Boyle! Her new EP, I Begin is a collection of recordings made with producer Robin Sutherland in Dundee over Christmas 2010. Yet again, Panda Su has managed to pull off a delicious slice of dark pop devised to disarm the listeners subconscious. Bee Song leads the way and lulls the listener in with a false sense of familiarity. The song is a delightful gateway into the deep and highly complex mind of Panda Su, but exactly who, or what the bee is must be left open to individual interpretation. I Begin is a song which, until now, hadnt seen the light of day. Beautifully hypnotic, it makes use of a choir of schoolchildren in an enchanting mantra that sits comfortably alongside the dark electronica that is fast becoming a trademark of Panda Su.The EP is completed with studio recordings of two of the songs which surfaced during her gigs and festival appearances of summer 2010, Alphabet Song and Facts and Figures. "Panda Su has crafted an album that is immediately likeable while becoming better and better with each subsequent listening. Thats a good place to inhabit. The EP immediately evokes Sufjan Stevenss older albums" - Jesse Diener-Bennett, www.bestnewbands.com Single of the Month, The List, May 2011 "Arguably the most engaging record of the year" - Hamish Gibson, www.audioscribbler.co.uk "Panda Su has a way with a tune that could see her replacing Adele in the nations hearts" - Bernhard Bessing, www.isthismusic.com Wisely produced and satisfying Folk-pop perfection. - Brendan Morgan, Bearded Magazine http://www.myspace.com/thepandasu KERRY FOWLER (Jagged Roots) Aberdeen born songwriter Kerry Fowler moved to Dundee almost 10 years ago and since then has set up her own record label and management company, Jagged Roots Music. The label represents several alt-acoustic artists, including Panda Su, Amber Wilson, Kerrys own solo career and the avant-garde Slavic folk ensemble, The Lost Todorovs, which she also fronts. Her debut solo release Dance of the Selkie won many accolades throughout the UK and beyond. Kerry can count BBC Radio 3s Mary-Ann Kennedy amongst her fans and her track Tide featured as Nokia Musics track of the month in France shortly after release. Comparisons have been drawn to female artists from wildly different backgrounds and genres including Bebel Gilberto, Julia Stone and Laura Marling. However, despite finding herself ensconced in the new folk and art-house acoustic movements, Kerrys background was very much based in Aberdeens late-90s indie scene. Winner of the Dundee Musicians Award in 2009, Kerry works with various musicians and is as likely to be seen performing with a harmonium and bouzouki as she is a guitar, although very often that decision is made minutes before stepping onto the stage. http://www.myspace.com/kerryfowleruk https://www.facebook.com/JaggedRoots SARAH J STANLEY Sarah J Stanley is a multi-talented musician from Aberdeen. A well known name around the citys music scene, Sarah has built up a fantastic rapport with local promoters, bagging her some respectable support slots over the past few years including; This is the Kit, To Rococo Rot, Bo Ningen, Woodenbox with a Fistful of Fivers and Panda Su. Many people will know Sarah as a melodic acoustic singer songwriter, whilst others will know her as a producer of dirty electronic beats. http://www.sarahjstanley.bandcamp.com http://notateepee.bandcamp.com/track/all-my-heroes-are-homegrown (or any other teepee song is grand too)

In this time they have released a catalogue of seven albums, four EPs and have appeared on many compilations. The duo thought it was time to push the status quo and break the album cycle. 2011 will see the group perform their latest work live before an audience! The improvised piece entitled Do The Boats Dream Of Electric Fritz Pfleumer? will be performed through an intricate tape loop system offering more wow and flutter than ever before. The show will see the group present a poem to the magic of magnetic tape, dreams and the synth pallet of Greek hero Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou. As always the music will reflect a process that sees The Boats passing the experimental through a skewed pop filter creating a sound that uncovers a friendly more fragile side to the avant-garde. These will be special unique events not to be missed. http://www.myspace.com/bepputheboats PATRICK MACAULAY KEENAN Patrick Macaulay Keenan is a composer and musician based in Aberdeen Scotland. Spanning the divide between Steve Reich and avant-garde guitar music, Collings has already found considerable praise from the international community for his previous releases under the curious moniker Sketches for Albinos, releasing 4 full lengths albums in the US, UK and Japan. His compositions include a wide range of instrumentation, from guitars, piano, organ and vocals to white noise, percussion, found sound and field recordings, theremin, brass and strings. http://www.myspace.com/matthewlscollings SUNDAY 30 OCTOBER CONQUERING ANIMAL SOUND The duo of Anneke Kampman and James Scott formed in 2009 and released their debut album 'Kammerspiel' earlier this year. Live, the duo perform the majority of what you hear on record creating loops, beats and samples out of anything and everything with Annekes sumptuous vocals carrying the sounds to what seems like a new world. 'Kammerspiel' is essentially pop music but in the way the likes of Fever Ray or Bjork portray pop music. Where Conquering Animal Sound differ is in their love for tape hiss and childrens toys. http://www.conqueringanimalsound.co.uk/ FROG POCKET DJ / violinist / guitarist. Yeah its possible. This one man show weaves its way slyly around the sound of Scottish alternative rock and folk before smashing your ear drums with a full on blast of breakcore then slowing back for some discord's in the realm of the electro universe. Although he writes and sings songs, hes certainly not a singer-songwriter in the traditional sense. Think dreamy pop songs augmented by textured atmospheric soundscapes. Or something like that. Debutant loops and layers guitars, creating shimmering atmospheres over which he adds delicate, breathless and dreamy vocals. Having plied his trade in bands, Phillip began writing songs and compositions that didnt suit the style of the bands he was in. So he purchased a loop pedal and figured hed do it all himself. Her debut album Paperclips and Sand was released in 2006 on her own label - Lo-Five Records. Jo has been working on new material with Adem Ilhan (Fridge and Adem). And a mini festival was curated. Very interesting. It's about time I posted some details up about it all. But I'm gonna finish my lunch first.
  18. Yeah I really enjoyed that. The acoustic nature of the set really showed off James' vocal ability and lyrics. Superb stuff. Best Twilight Sad Aberdeen show since the first one at The Tunnels.
  19. I must admit, that part was pretty cool. And my head was all over the shop during the crescendo in Jock Sheep. Bloody good show.
