  1. interesting music promotions present: DARK DARK DARK (Melodic) + support tbc Thursday, 23 August 2012 The Tunnels (Room 1), Carnegies Brae, Aberdeen, AB10 1BF. Phone (01224) 211121 Doors 8pm Advance Tickets £8.50+bf / £10 on door Available from One-Up Records, Belmont Street, Aberdeen. Phone (01224) 642662 or online http://www.wegottickets.com/event/172210 http://www.facebook.com/interestingmusicpromotions http://www.twitter.com/@IMP_aberdeen http://www.thetunnels.co.uk/ IMP are completely stoked to announce this fantastic show, one of the few artists to play Greenman and End of The Road Festivals, and coming up north in between… This will be one in a series of SSSSHHHH events! DARK DARK DARK (Melodic & Supply And Demand Music) Listeners everywhere are having a very emotional response to Dark Dark Dark's music. Their sophomore album, titled Wild Go, is ambitious and layered, welcoming and familiar, and reminds us to seek out the wonder and magic that surround us all the time. Their sound sets Nona Marie Invie's soaring, haunted voice against an array of traditional instruments, balancing folk and high-art, creating music that is making people crazy. The 10-song collection is a marked evolution for the group, which began in 2006 as a collaboration between Minneapolis based musicians Nona Marie Invie and Marshall LaCount. These two songwriters bring together disparate influences including minimalism, New Orleans jazz, Americana, Eastern European folk, and pop. Using stark contrast in texture, tone and imagery, the band has expanded and redefined their sound for the new album. Wild Go's first single "Daydreaming" features Invie's warm voice and piano supported by spare, clean drums, guitar with lush reverb, cascades of dirty, distorted banjo, and an accordion wandering through the harmonies. The landscape created by the instruments reflects the one traveled by Invie - "I've been touring for so long now – and it's been great," she says, "but I have this internal conflict between having a nomadic lifestyle and needing a home." In the studio the band worked with producer Tom Herbers (a Minneapolis stalwart known for his credits with the Jayhawks, Low, and Soul Asylum), recording live to tape at three different Minneapolis locations, including a renovated church/studio and an old theater. Of all the influences on Wild Go, perhaps the greatest is their dedication to live performance and touring, where many of Dark Dark Dark's songs first come to life. Playing together, the band lifts Invie and LaCount's songs to another level. "We try to create a magical space with our performances," Invie says. "I'm always blown away by the number of people that come up to me afterward and say how much the music touched them. I love it when people can dance and have fun at our shows, but it's when people are quiet and I can tell that they are feeling it on a personal level that I feel like I'm really connecting." Wild Go was released in October 2010 in the US on Supply & Demand Music, and April 2011 on Melodic in the UK and Europe. New album to be released October 2012 http://brightbrightbright.com/ https://www.facebook.com/darkdarkdark http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Dark_Dark Support to be announced later…
  2. interesting music promotions present: Rick Redbeard + ADAM STAFFORD + DEBUTANT Saturday, 23 June 2012 Cellar 35, 35 Rosemount Viaduct, Aberdeen AB25 1NQ. Phone (01224) 640483 Doors 7.30pm Advance Tickets £6 / £8 on door Available from One-Up Records, Belmont Street, Aberdeen. Phone (01224) 642662 or online http://www.wegottickets.com/event/170939 http://www.facebook.com/interestingmusicpromotions http://www.twitter.com/@IMP_aberdeen http://www.gerrylovesrecords.com http://www.nooseandmonkey.com/category/cellar-35 To celebrate the launch of their split single on Gerry Loves Records, Rick Redbeard and Adam Stafford are playing 3 dates in Scotland. IMP are delighted to welcome them both back to Aberdeen, along with another old friend, Debutant. Please note there are only a limited number of tickets available for this very intimate evening – our first ever show at Cellar 35! RICK REDBEARD - is the solo musical alias of Rick Anthony, singer from acclaimed Glasgow sextet The Phantom Band. Born and raised in the Aberdeenshire wilderness, Anthony began using the Redbeard name for his solo material sometime around 2006-7 after swindling it from a pirate. He has performed sporadically around Scotland since then, and the Gerry Loves Records split 7" is the first Rick Redbeard release of any nature. He is currently at work putting the finishing touches to his debut album. http://gerrylovesrecords.com/artist/rick-redbeard http://www.phantomband.co.uk ADAM STAFFORD - is a musician and filmmaker from Falkirk. Formally of the group Y'all is Fantasy Island, he issued two experimental a capella albums, "Awnings" and "Miniature Porcelain Horse Emporium" in 2009. His debut studio set "Build a Harbour Immediately" was released in 2011 and was critically acclaimed by the Scottish press, turning up on a number of end-of-year polls in 2011. He is currently trying to write a horror film set in 1993, about a maintenance train driver who infiltrates a Norse Black Metal cult in the rural North of Scotland. http://gerrylovesrecords.com/artist/adam-stafford http://www.wisebloodindustries.com DEBUTANT - is one man, a guitar and a voice. Although he writes and sings songs, he’s certainly not a singer-songwriter in the traditional sense. Think dreamy pop songs augmented by textured atmospheric soundscapes. Or something like that. Debutant loops and layers guitars, creating shimmering atmospheres over which he adds delicate, breathless and dreamy vocals. Having plied his trade in bands, Phillip began writing songs and compositions that didn’t suit the style of the bands he was in. So he purchased a loop pedal and figured he’d do it all himself. Download his fantastic, ahem, debut album “We Stand Alone Together” (for free!) at the bandcamp link below. http://gerrylovesrecords.com/artist/debutant http://debutant.bandcamp.com

His work in recent years explores a fusion of digital sound manipulation with melodic and organic textures inspired by his interests in sound ecology, human perception, music technology and photography. He has toured internationally since 1990 (as a member of Slowdive) and has had his compositions featured in a variety of international films, music festivals, theatre productions, sound installations and digital multi-media projects. Scott's sophomore album "Bunny" was released in October 2011 following his debut album "Navigare" in October 2009 on Miasmah (both albums were"Album Of The Week" on www.boomkat.com). His third album "Below Sea Level" will be released in spring 2012 on Taylor Deupree's label 12k. An EP "Traba" was released in June 2010 on vinyl by Immune Records and the "Silenne" sleep CD on Slaapwel released in November 2010. A 7" on Sonic pieces was released January 2011 and was voted www.textura.org's 'Single of the year'. Scott also co-wrote tracks for the second The Sight Below album "It All Falls Apart" released by Ghostly International in April 2010 and he has remixed Isan, Jasper TX, Machinefabriek and Papercutz. http://simonscott.org/ GARETH DICKSON (12k) Based around the acoustic guitar, Gareth Dickson's compositions employ effects (analogue delay and reverb) to recreate something of an ambient/electronic soundscape, as well as referencing some of the well known fingerpickers of the past. Sometimes entirely instrumental, sometimes with sparing vocals, always with the idea of exploring and finding new possibilities for an age old instrument. He has toured extensively as Vashti Bunyan’s guitarist and has toured as a solo artist providing support for Juana Molina and Isobel Campbell among others. It’s great to have Gareth play for us again. “From Glasgow, a solo artist singing and playing acoustic guitar - sometimes with effects, his songs slip between a beautifully sparse, emotive fragility (recalling Nick Drake, Bert Jansch, etc.) and denser instrumentals (recalling Eno or Labradford)” - FatCat Records http://www.garethdickson.com/ THE KITCHEN CYNICS ORCHESTRA Those of us honoured to have witnessed the first Orchestra event will lay claim to have heard something very, very special in the annuls of IMP. Don't know what they will do this time around but we are sure it will be musically and visually wonderful. We are simply thrilled to have their second only live performance. http://www.myspace.com/kitchencynics

  11. Agree with all of the above... Meursault were great, but should have played for longer. 10pm finish just seemed a little bit of an anti-climax. I prefer Wounded Knee when he does the looping stuff - didn't really enjoy his set. You can tell he's been working with Alasdair Roberts... Woodend Barn is a great venue and I'm really looking forward to more Deliverance nights! Nice one Dave!
  12. Well that was just bloody great all round. Kitchen Cynics Orchestra though...
  13. interesting music promotions present RM HUBBERT + EMMA POLLOCK + AMBER WILSON Tuesday, 17 April 2012 The Tunnels (Room 1), Carnegies Brae, Aberdeen, AB10 1BF. His debut solo album ‘First & Last’ was self-released in 2010 before being picked up by Chemikal Underground in 2011. The follow up ‘Thirteen Lost & Found’ was released in January this year to widespread critical acclaim and features collaborations with Alasdair Roberts, Aidan Moffat, Alex Kapranos and Emma Pollock (amongst others). A hugely gifted guitarist, Hubby's work incorporates elements of flamenco, folk, samba and taiko and is inspired by events in his life that have, at times, been heartbreakingly difficult. Not so fast with the doom and gloom though because there are also amazingly evocative pieces dealing with adolescence, love and even his dog Mr Bone. The strength of Hubby's playing lies in his ability to evoke emotions in a way that many of his peers in bands with vocals can't even come close to. Hubby’s technical prowess, combined with the intimacy of his shows has secured his reputation as an unmissable live performer – a fact not lost on the likes of Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat and The Twilight Sad, who have all invited Hubby to support them on tour. http://www.rmhubbert.com http://www.chemikal.co.uk EMMA POLLOCK – is a singer, songwriter, guitarist and founding member of The Delgados, one of the most interesting and influential bands to emerge from the mid-90s Glasgow music scene. One of the most bewitching singers and natural songwriters around, Emma released her debut solo album Watch The Fireworks on 4AD in 2007 and returned to Chemikal Underground in 2010 with the release of her second solo outing The Law Of Large Numbers . The album is crammed with unconventional arrangements and by Emma’s own admission, was an almost entirely self-serving project. With taut, sparse production, hints of Dixieland jazz, abrasive pop songs; programmed drums and improvised vocal loops – this record is, in short, and in the words of Emma herself, “The truest representation of me as an individual - whatever that means.” http://www.emmapollock.com http://www.chemikal.co.uk Amber Wilson– is an Aberdeen singer-songwriter who released the much-awaited follow up to her debut EP in August 2011 on the Jagged Roots label. The online release is a double A-side single with a recently penned song, “An Affirmation” alongside a radical reworking of an old favourite, “Raise the Alarm”. This new recording sees Amber develop a far more produced feel than her debut live EP, with a sense of intensity through layers of strings, piano, drums and electric guitar having been added to her line up. Her honey-warm vocals still very much to the fore, its little wonder the comparisons to Feist, Sia and Dido still resonate, though her music is more akin to Sufjan Stevens or Iron & Wine. Having shared a stage with the likes of Paolo Nutini, Seth Lakeman, Amy MacDonald and Fionn Regan over the past few years Amber has built up quite a following. In the past year, Amber has added her vocals to the track “Past Passes By” on Rod Jones of Idlewild’s solo album “A Sentimental Education”. However she has been focusing on her own solo material and has performed at festivals throughout the Highlands & Islands and further afield in Paris and Dublin. This could possibly be Amber’s last hometown show before heading off to tour America / Ireland and the European festival circuit with an established London-based band. (We can’t tell you who just yet - oooh how exciting!) http://amberwilson.believeband.com https://www.facebook.com/JaggedRoots

  15. You all knew we we beautiful, now all of Aberdeen does... http://issuu.com/trend_aberdeen/docs/trendfebmarch12 Page 73
  16. There might be something new coming tomorrow. Probably on twitter. Just sayin, like...
  17. If you haven't seen the other thread in the gigs section, there's been a wee line-up change to this. Husband can't make the show and have been replaced by Iona Marshall (De-Fence Records). You may have seen her supporting Laetitia Sadier at The Tunnels before... And here's a facebook link. Just for you. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=279550625395591
  18. Finally, a Twilight Sad show that has surpassed their very first one at The Tunnels a few years ago. Fucking brilliant.
  19. Even though I'm on hiatus from IMP, I'll give this a wee bump (as naebdy else is!). Great line-up. Saw Sarah a couple of weeks ago with This Is The Kit and some of the new songs were startling. Will really suit this environment.
