  1. The reason I'm voting no to AV is that it's inherently unfair unless the voter is compelled to mark a preference for everyone on the ballot paper. It's also a nonsensical system unless "none of the above" is one of the options on the paper. I've yet to see a single good reason for why someone who marks down three preferences should have more of a say in the election of representatives than someone who only marks one or two.

There is a 'none of the above' - leave your paper blank. And a non vote is a vote too. Leave the bnp or Tories box free and that's a vote against them.

  2. I think everyone should read this -

Johann Hari: If you get the X Factor you'll get AV - Johann Hari, Commentators - The Independent

If you believe some of the appalling anti-AV propaganda that's going around (ie, "the BNP will get more seats!!", etc) then you need to get your head examined.

EDIT - Just to say that the concept of AV is astoundingly simple & all you need to do is be able to write 1, 2 and 3.

You can manage that, can't you?

  3. Only a few acts that I like playing (madness, Twilight sad).

    Fuck it, still going.

And if it's a success, it can only get bigger & better - look at Rockness, starting as 1 day event & ending up with people like Flaming Lips & The Strokes playing.

Well done to the people involved in putting this on.

  4. Pictish Trail has pulled out -

    Hi everyone.

I'm in America at the moment - my folks live over here, in Connecticut. On Tuesday evening, April 5th, my Mum passed away at home. She had been battling pancreatic cancer for just over a year. She has always been a huge supporter of everything i've done - there's no way i'd be doing what i'm doing now without her guidance. Whilst obviously devastated, the whole family are relieved that her pain is over.

It feels a bit weird/crass announcing all this on Facebook - but I wanted folk to know about the situation because i was due to play a few shows over the next week, which people have bought tickets for and i don't like pulling out of shows with no explanation. So, aye - I won't be playing the Karail show tomorrow, and i'm going to have to pull out of the Aberdeen show (15th) and the Newcastle show (16th). I will be at the Edinburgh show, though (14th), and will be doing Reading / London / Manchester as planned, too.

I don't really know what else to say other than thanks to everyone who's sent me a message in the past few days.

    love,

    johnny pictish x

  5. This question is mainly directed at Alkaline... I bought a Broksonic 32 inch lcd tv at the weekend (i'd never heard of that brand either). It was dirt dirt cheap and I really wanted a telly so it was a bit of an impulse buy. I normally like to shop around and save up for a good brand but just thought fuck it on this occassion. My question is How bad is it going to be? will it conk out after a couple months or are these no-brand brands not that inferior to the Sonys and Panasonics of the world? The colours aren't spectacular but i'm only using it to watch dvds and .avi files off my computer and I don't have hd cable yet so not that fussed.

"Broksonic" is made by a Japanese compnay called Orion, who also make the Durabrand goods for Asda.

  6. An oldie like me would only describe the music as "modern" but the video itself must have taken hours and hours of work and planning.

I agree with the last two comments from Jim Stax and from Foxhunting (himself a very talented teenage peformer and writer).

Good luck to this lad Liam. He has done a lot already that others just dream about.

He should be approached to become a member here.

All very true but... how do you rate his Mum?

  8. She unfortunately got married after 17 years to his dad. Up for the challenge though!
"My mum and dad came to LA to visit me recently and they also got married after 17 years! I love doing karaoke battles with my mom and we got into one when she was cooking dinner one night. My friend was there and did a home video. Check it...mom's not bad eh?"

Karaoke battles? With his "Mom"? Seriously?

His mate could have made a much more interesting video with the mum if he'd kicked Liam out of the house.
