  1. I fail to see your point in anything you have said. Listen, I don't really care if you don't like our music, thats fair enough. You come to expect that not everyone will like us, maybe no-one will, but sitting going, 'blah blah blah, chord progression, blah blah, my cock is the biggest, blah b lah...' doen't really do it for me to be honest. If you don't like the music, fair enough, but you are in no position to tell anyone what chords can and can't go together, especiallly apon listening to your myspace. If an artist can exhibit anything they want as a piece of art, then a musician can put any chords he likes together for all I care.

  2. doesn't it feel great? i've totally re-discovered my enthusiasm for reading:up:

Yeah, it does! I've rediscovered mine also. My friend let me borrow 'Mr Nice', the autobiography of Howard Marx. Really interesting. Also reading an 'Introduction to Friedrich' Nietzsche with a view of reading some of his material. Also really want to read '1984' again as I haven't read it since I was 16. Yeah, reading=good!

  3. The one on Mormons was very educational. When two Mormons turned up at my door they me told how impressed they were with my knowledge of their religion, all gleaned from that episode.

Yeah, to be fair, South Park are pretty good at researching their episodes and, as the show has progressed, become very informative with a tongue-in-cheek sensiblity.

  4. does anyone else think l ron hubbard is laughing his ass off that people take scientology so seriously and pay him shitloads of money for it? it was surely started as a prank and has just got way out of hand.

I think the same could be said for all 'religions'. Just because this one is more recent does not make it any any different from older beliefs. You never know, in 2000 years time Scientology could be new Christianity. It is forgotten that when christianity was invented they were probably worse than scientologists because they murdered and killed inoccent people because they didn't believe in the message of Jesus, especially the pagans. They Virtually killed them off. To me, the idea of an alien spaceship is not any more far fetched than a man who can rise from the dead and walk on water. They both sound rediculous to me.

(the only reason I focused on Christianity was because I don't know enough about other religions to maintain accuracy, no offense intended)

  5. ok, i take it he means smo2g - (www.myspace.com/smo2g) and if are trying to tell me that its not a "genre class" then you are off your head. From a kinda folk tune - to a Gas Mask wearing (ok, i know they dont actually go around wearing gas masks, but u know what i mean) metal screaming bunch from Quebec. i mean COME ON!!! you are never gonna like that music!! you just wanna have a pop, which is fair enough! lol I try to keep an open mind to music but EMOTIONAL DECLINE..... well i can say no more!! Each to their own!!

Never heard of them. Its cool though, I think its good to here opinions from both directions, like or dislike. The end of the day it can only make bands better to have people giving their honest opinion. We wouldn't put it in a feedback forum otherwise and appreciate everyone who does reply, as long as it is kept constructive.

  6. to be honest if you dont have at least two out of those three you are not ready to record i would say, well anything more than a demo. If you dont know your sound, dont waste money going somewhere expensive, record demo's till you get something you like then build on that. Get your band as tight as possible, tracking up is very different to playing as a band you must know your songs inside out and be able to play them without the other members there for help.

The best bit of advice i would give tho is to try a few studios before deciding on one to use properly, find somewhere your band clicks, or where you get the best feel from and an engineer you can banter with. Ive worked in enviroments that wernt like that and the results have been crap. Having a good buzz about the place is very important for the creative side of recording i think, if your happy in the studio you will want to spend as much time as you can afford to get it sounding just right, if you dont, you will rush it and waste your money.

I have to concur with David. Environment is probably the most important thing about the studio. Your recordings always reflect your mood, thats why you will find that a band in thier prime record their best stuff and a band splitting up sound like a band splitting up. The last Cooper Temple Clause album is a prime example, i could see them splitting up about 4 months ago just from hearing their last record. Same goes for most bands. Get a good studio with a producer/engineer you can work well with, has a little imput, but not enough to change the direction of the song and your on to a winner. ;)

  7. ;)

    seriously are you on drugs?

    i fucking hope so.

i interupted a smog LP for this. its dul. dull. dull. dull. the epitome of all thats bad about Aberdeen music, it's competent, but thats not enough. Milner, find a better band. ( if i edit this will it edit quoted potions? hmmm? usul? stilgar?)this is not however the worst crime commited by the latest selection of artists on the latest fat hippy collection- cont. in insect rock magazine vol.4 due june 2007.

  8. This a rough version of our new song we have been recording, this is a first mix of the track we have but i think it sounds amazing already, this song is easily the best thing i have recorded i think but its up to everyone else to decided, have a listen on www.myspace.com/keneticband

    :)

we're taking the track down tonight so if anyone has any feedback it would be much appreciated.

    Sam,

Cheers man, let you hear that when you were up at the flat before the Lemon Tree. Give me a shout when your back in Aberdeen, hook up for some tea or smoething. :) Oh yeah, the intro does have a string section, its just filtered so that you can't really tell that it is strings till the last bar or 2. One step ahead of you man. ;)

  9. Cheers for the tips, know anywhere else in Aberdeen to record? I heard Exile produces some good sounds?

    thanks

Captain Tom's always sound good these days, as long as you know your sound before you go in you can get a really decent demo for pennies. seriously man, well worth trying a track or 2 there for the sake of 5 or 6 hours and would hardly cost you over 100.

  10. Was in R&B today trying a few out. The Death Metal is a beasting sound but very much a one trick pony (can't alter the distortion level, just the level, low, mid and high), basically it's got two settings; on or off. Tried the Boss Mega Distortion but couldn't get a sound I was happy with out of it. Lastly I had a go of the Pocket Metal Muff. Very similar sound to the Metal Zone, but about 15 cheaper. The lack of EQ settings was a bit disappointing though.

Apparently the Warp Factor is discontinued and they're getting the ML-2 in April.

Hi Chris, I would very highly recommend the Tonebone pedals. Expensive at 200 but worth every penny. I've got the hot British which i have just got sounding very nice with the gain at 1! Can give alot of varied sounds and apparently the Tonebone Classic is just as good, if not better. I'll confirm that in 2 weeks when i get mine. :D

  11. Well, I haven't actually played one, but if it's the model I'm thinking of I seem to remember reading that it has a feature that will automatically channel switch your amp for you, which I think is a first for a multi-fx unit, and a great idea.

In general however, I think there's an awful lot of snobbery around about multi-fx units. Some people just decide that individual pedals will sound better, even though they are often made by the same manufacturer. In general, I think the quality of multi-fx units has come on leaps and bounds in the last ten years with modelling and stuff.

But it really depends what you want it to do. I still use a Korg multi-fx unit that I've had for about five years, because it still does what I want it to do, which is mainly adding delay/reverb/compression for clean tones, setting volume levels so I can come in with a higher volume for solos etc, and it has a volume pedal. I don't use the distortions much.

But if you are plugging one of these into a solid state amp, don't expect to get a great, tube like distortion tone. Expect to get a sound like a bee in a jam jar.

If I was buying a new unit now I would look at the GT-8 or one of the Pods, ie Floor Pod or Pod XT.

My advice - go into R & B and try a few units, try to use as close to your own set up as possible, ie there's no pint using one of their high end amps and guitars to test the unit if you will actually be using it with a Squire strat and a solid state Peavey.

Thanks man, appreciate your advise and I think thats exactly what i'll do. :)

  12. The Orange Tiny Terror 7/15 watt amp is unbelievable! I tried one out the 1st day that R&B got them in and at "2" on 7watts you'd think the roof was going to cave in!!!

I'm seriously considering buying one for a back-up and for those classic British moments.

It won't break your bank or your back!!!

You H&K is an excellent amp though.

hmm...sounds very interesting...rather try and build up my effects pedals first, unfortunetly don't have THAT much money. :) Just ordered the Classic, haven't heard it yet but going by the Hot British i think there is very little chance of me being disappointed. I'm picking up a Boss compressor on saturday aswell. are live gates worthwhile? toying with the idea.

    How's your football injury?

  13. how much do you have to spend on an amp??

I don't really need an amp to be honest man, the one I've got is perfect. Infact, I'd say its one of the best, if not the best, for its price range. If i was to get another amp I'd probably go for the Orange Rock 30. I was going to get that but the 300 difference in price and 50kgs in weight difference put me off it! I don't want to be putting my back out on the way to a show! ha! :)

  14. Ciaran,

I've owned just about everything including the Boss GT6. I now have a POD XT Live which I use for practicing at home and recording. The multi-effects units are great for experimenting, but unless you invest a lot of time setting up patches - which in turn may not lend themselves well to the venue acoustics or house PA - then they aren't much use live.

Some of the effects in multi units sound - in my opinion - really synthetic and "electronic" (if you get my meaning) compared to analogue stomp boxes like the Tonebone that we've just bought.

Really depends of what your application is I guess.

Verdict on multi-effects: great value, but you get what you pay for.

Yeah, I've always had that opinion, used to own the line 6 Flextone III amp but had the same problem, very processed/synthetic sound. I guess i just need to start buying stomp boxes.

  15. I take it you mean EQ.

As a general rule of thumb, anything which alters the signal level, such as compressors and gates, should come before distortion.

Anything which produces signals of varying level, such as delay, should come after distortion***.

Where you put EQ is down to a matter of taste (and debate), try it pre and post compressor, and post distortion.

    Reverb should be last.

After that, as Dusty says, it's down to what your trying to achieve.

***distortion is dependent on signal strength, so if you start putting in varying levels of signal, like the repeats in a delay, you're going to get varying levels of distortion.

Yeah, typo. Thanks for your advise, helps a lot man. :)

  16. The compressor should go at the start of the chain.

Would i need a compressor through the FX Loop and line out or which one? confused! ?( Whats your thoughts on the GT8 Dusty?

    Cheers,

    Ciaranx

  17. Ive still got the damned thing... ebay is the only way.

Managed to lay my hands on a original marshall govnor which i am in love with.

Few more pedals orderd, boss is a tone killer!

    Check your pm's

  18. Thanks chaps. What my general plan over the next year is to ideally have 2 guitar floorboard/cases, one for my line out and one for my FX loop, Just trying to figure which pedals go where is the problem.

These are my thought so far:

    Amp:

    Bonetone Hot British

Bonetone Classic (which I am now away to purchase  )

    Tuner

    FX Loop:

    Digitech Whammy Pitch Shifter

    Digitech EX-7 Expression

    Tremolo

    Chorus (still to purchase)

    Flanger (still to purchase)

DD-3 Delay (still to be purchased)

    DD-6 Delay

Line 6 Echo Park Delay (still to be purchased)

Not too sure if this will work?

Also, The likes of Compressors, Gates and EG, where would i fit these in? Also, the effects i haven't bought yet, any better pedals than this? money is no object, I'm in the frame of mind that i might as well get the best now and not have to worry about it later (However, not willing to spend a grand on a chorus or something). :)

Any other modulated effects that i might find useful? It would be for experimental but coherant sounds, think Mars Volta/Mansun/10cc. Or would i be better off investing in a multi-effects unit like the GT-8?

Thanks again, really appreciate everyones help.

  19. I bought the Tonebone "Classic" pedal. It has "The Tone" I've been searching for.

    Jubbly.

Good shout on the H&K amp. I have the Trilogy half-stack. Rock's best kept secret!

Trilogy half stack :up: Where did you get that from?

Is the Classic as good as the British? What sorta of tones are you getting from it? Any examples? You sound like you have good taste. ha! Don't suppose you have any other suggestions for my other questions?
