i agree vai is the better of the two but i think you can only listen to him for so long before it gets to repetetive and when some songs last over 8 minutes they get boring but classics like eugenes trick bag will live forever and i dont dislike speed its good but only if people can cary it off like hammett he is a master of speed and can bring real emotion and feeling into his solos aswell as playing like lightning

i can play fast some days and it sounds good but others i sound shit. i personally dont like speed that much i am not a big fan of huge fast heavy metal solos i prefer the more slow but not any easier solos of slash, blackmore, page etc but its just my personal opionon
