  1. I use Elixir LTHB's on all my guitars and they feel great to me. They sound good out of the packet and they last for... months and months and months. I had a set on a Les Paul for 10 months, they still sounded, felt and played as good as new.

    Worth every penny.

I used to use D'Addario's too... they are great strings. If they lasted longer, you could count me in that club as well.

  2. With the impulses, you still use your amp head, it's just another way of tone shaping.

I've got the Ampeg SVX and Amplitube software. I can get some fuckin awesome bass sounds with the SVX, I'm very happy with the sounds I've dialled in. I've still told my bass player he should purchase a Sansamp. He's gonna wait and hear Nick's I think

  3. Anyone here using cab impulses? It's basically a cab modeler, you take your direct input signal into your interface, then run the cab impulse on the DI'd channel. Pick the cab you want and the position you want the mic in etc, voila, super.

I guess it's cab replacement. I'm going to experiment with it this weekend when we do some demos. Run the miced signal and then a DI, play around and see which sounds better :)

Apparently it's also good when you record quietly. I don't have a link or anything, just check out teh google :)

  4. It's doable. I've been learning how to do home recordings for 2years now. I've noticed a huge difference from those demos to where I'm at now. It's all about practise and reading. Don't expect awesome results straight away, I haven't got awesome results yet. I've got pretty good home demo recordings though. Other people have told me that they think it's good, but I spend a LOT of time reading about this shit.

You'll need good equipment to help you along. But start lower down the ladder, if you can get decent sounds from shit gear, then an upgrade is worth it. Beg, borrow and steal what you can. I found that recording in studios really helps you along. If you wanna learn, watch producers like a hawk.

My band are recording with Nick from MMW in March, I'm expecting to learn a lot from him(and Dan) when I'm there. It's a steep learning curve, but a lot of fun. Good luck.

  5. Mesa Boogie .50 Caliber+ head. New tubes in the power amp with less than 20 hours on them. Has a nice sound but isn't what I'm looking for. Will take 470 + postage(I'm based up in Thurso)

Note: This is a 110V amp and needs a transformer to run with it. I've got one, but it's too big and heavy to post. Pics available on request.

It's a nice amp and I've looked after it well, I'm just looking for a more modern sound.
