  1. I came along' date=' you had already started so not sure how much I missed.

I stick with my opinion that you sound music-wise like The Cure circa Faith, with some songs actually reminding me of shoegazing bands such as Slowdive with use of guitar effects and style of playing. Your bass playing was good enough, don't think much of the drum machine though. The vocals were very flat and brought you down considerably, but maybe he was having an off night.[/quote']

Aye, we couldn't get a rehearsal in until not long before the gig, and Richey fucked his voice a bit then.

And malloty, the reason we're not the greatest live act ever yet is that it was only our 4th show together - my 4th ever and Richey's 5th ever. And personally I'd say I'm doing pretty good so far considering I've only been playing bass for 2 months.

We'll take your advice and start hyping ourselves up to ridiculous proportions though.

  2. So did anyone actually come and see us? If so what did you think? We felt it was a bit of a weird gig, made weirder by the fact we can't quite put our finger on why it felt weird.

Me fucking up a 7 minute song within the first few drumbeats didn't exactly help like!

I daresay finding the lead for my bass amp suddenly wasn't working just before soundcheck didn't help matters either (whoever it was that decided it was okay to just borrow it - thanks for that. Really.)

  3. i'll hold my hand up there but it was all in the name of enthusiasm' date=' fuck all of you who had a go at me as well, if youve got something to say id rather you do it to my face.[/quote']

I think I speak for Les and Richey as well when I say that we've never had a problem with anything you've posted about us thus far Ollie, so I wouldn't worry about it.

  4. No you don't because you went to a different school to me' date=' and in England you start secondary school a year earlier than here, I was the youngest in my year and I bet the words were harder too. So HA!![/quote']

I thought the English went to school a year later, thus why any kids who come up here from England tend to end up being the eldest in their class?

Let's just say we're BOTH spelling geniuses.

  5. 19 out of 20' date=' I didn't read one of the questions properly because I'm impatient and love myself.

We did a big spelling test at school when i was 11 to determine our spelling age and I got 97 out of 100 which was a spelling age of 14. I am the best![/quote']

    I got 97 out of 100 when I was ten, so I win 8)

  6. Well to save further confusion there's always Aguirre' date=' Fitzcarraldo, Cobra Verde, Woyzeck..... ;) (I know he has many others but I like Klaus Kinski so those are the ones I know which are not linked to Joy Division...)[/quote']

I think poster/flyer makers would have even more trouble with "Aguirre, Der Zorn Gottes" though :D

  7. I was going to wait for it to come out on CD so that I didn't have to break my "never pay for a download" rule, but then I realised that Leviathan was actually the only song I was at all interested in having, so I just downloaded it anyway.

That tracklisting made me feel as sad as I used to feel during the Shitpop era.

  8. So what' date=' such devotion to a local band can only be a good thing

I don't think their style will go down in the bam haven that is Drummonds. The Tunnels gig might be a shout[/quote']

Well we actually found the last Drummonds gig to be better than the last Tunnels gig, but then that was more to do with the sound than the actual audience reception.

    Everyone come to both! :D

And also everyone lay off our superfan Ollie!

And just so people know - the name comes from a Werner Herzog fixation, nae an Ian Curtis fixation :p

Enigma Of Kasper Hauser doesn't have quite the same ring to it as Stroszek though.

  9. I know we still have a lot of progress to make and someone's been teaching me jazz chords so maybe that could be our new direction. Stroszek go jazz you heard it here first! Anyway now for the pitiful self-promotion bit: Come to see us at Drummonds on Friday or Tunnels next Thursday and make up your own minds! Id love to see you there!!

I can just imagine Richey... "You are witnessing the rebirth of Stroszek."

I'm nae putting an aubergine down my pants though.

    [/spinal Tap referencing]

  10. It would be better if it were a non band member that thought Girl said no were the greatest thing since sliced loaf

    Exactly!

I personally think Stroszek are going to become the greatest band Scotland has ever produced' date=' but we leave any hyperbole like that to our uber-fan Ollie!

usually fine to mention your personal opinion in a thread on a forum etc (unless you end up in court)

    Haha!!

sorry 5 pages of slagging now

Self-important "quips" like that merely reinforce the widely held opinion that you've got a vastly over-inflated view of yourselves. It's not 5 pages of slagging, it's 5 pages of people trying (and apparently failing) to make you see what is wrong with your whole attitude. Or to put it another way, 5 pages of people banging their heads against a wall.

And don't bother with the "oh it's so funny seeing how riled you all are ROFL!!!" type shite. It's a well abused tactic of arrogant twats.

  11. Quality' date='

so because we dont want to sound the same as others or act the same as others we are now arrogant. what happened to being individual?

Regards 'if you dont think its good, youre shit' that is a bit off the page. all i have said is that if you dont like our music dont listen, the same way if i dont like a band i dont listen to them. what i dont have to do is spend my time trying to bring them down and then get upset because i find that they dont really mind people having their own opinions!

regards being hated in the local scene etc, the only hate coming towards us is coming via this forum (and people from this forum going on to our forum) and has done long before i went on the radio and had a bit of crack so nothing new has happened. i still go see lots of bands and have a good time, including the little kicks who i agree are one of many great bands on the local scene. i have yet to be approached by the agreived 'local scene ' people i have supposedly disgruntled so badly!!

anyway i must go back to my 'cuntish' ways but will be back later to see what this last paragraph has done to upset the local community!!

    take it easy[/quote']

Now I know how a dentist feels...

Look, you said "regards criticism, why would we take it on board?" and I said "All bands should take criticism on board, it's the only way you learn how to evolve for fuck's sake." I did NOT say you should try to sound like other bands. In fact, one of the GREATEST bits of criticism you should take on board is that YOU SOUND LIKE EVERY OTHER FUCKING PUB BAND IN THE COUNTRY. You say you don't want to sound like other bands... well you've failed. Miserably.

"If you don't think it's good, you're shit" isn't off the page. If you don't take criticism on board, you obviously think you know better than everyone else. But any musician with half a fucking brain realises that they're always going to be their own biggest fan, and therefore extremely biased - you need someone else's perspective to truly gauge the quality of your music. To do otherwise is just ridiculously arrogant.

I too would like to know what happened to individuality. Where did you hide it?

  12. Nice!

unfortunately we enjoy our music and dont have any urge to express our views on the world on anyone. music is about enjoyement and with regards having something meaningful to say - thats very noble and i am sure if it was you you would be saving the world! But we just went onto Northsound played some tunes and had a laugh obviously a lot of it went over yours and others heads but i wont be losing sleep over it.

regards criticism' date=' why would we take it on board?

we play the music we write and enjoy and act as normal, maybe we dont take it as serious as yourself and worry about the social implications and how it would upset someone like yourself!

we are lucky enough to have a large following who enjoy the music, buy the cds, come to gigs etc [/quote']

All bands should take criticism on board, it's the only way you learn how to evolve for fuck's sake. That's an incredibly arrogant way of thinking - you;re basically saying "we know better than everyone else. If you don't think it's good, you're shit"

just a wee thing relating to another point on the forum regarding promotion the reason we get on the radio ( northsound 5 times/radio scotland 2 times/radio clyde 4 times) to do sessions/have interviews which upset the natives is because we are constantly promoting the band and trying to get ourselves noticed. you seem to think we have it easier than everyone else but we work just as hard as the rest of the top bands in aberdeen to get ourselves noticed hence why we do se well.

    take it easy

Namedropping doesn't change the fact your music is awful and that the only thing you could possibly bring to the national music scene is it's demise.

The Little Kicks have been played on Radio 1 - yet you don't see them banging on about it. That's why no one hates them.

The only reason folk have a go at you is because you clearly need to be taken down a peg or fifteen. Don't gloat, it's cuntish.
